2013 SEC Conference Tournament Odds Preview and Picks
- Updated: March 14, 2013
The Southeastern conference also known as the SEC has always been known for their great football teams and their run of national championships, however they are also known for their great basketball teams. This year in the SEC tournament plenty of those teams will be on display.
The Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Tennessee will be the host for the tournament this season with the first game starting on March 14tth. The quarterfinals will take place the next day on March 15th and the semifinals will conclude on March 16th. Finally a champion will be decided on March 17th on ABC. The regular season champion from a year ago is the Kentucky Wildcats with the Vanderbilt Commodores looking to repeat as conference champions.
When it comes to favorites to capture the conference tournament the Florida Gators (-160) lead the way. They are still the team to beat although they lost the season finale to the Kentucky Wildcats. The Missouri Tigers (+250) are a newcomer to the conference but they are the next team expected to compete for the title of the best in the SEC.
With an automatic bid on the line there are plenty of teams that should be considered sleepers. The Tennessee Volunteers (+700) and the Arkansas Razorbacks (+1000) have some impressive wins, but no other sleeper is as dangerous as the Wildcats (+700). The Wildcats defeated the Gators in the last game of the season and they need an impressive showing in this event or they could easily miss the NCAA tournament this season. Nothing makes a team play hard like desperation.
Although this tournament should be won by the Gators, our pick is the Missouri Tigers. The Tigers have played impressive basketball all season long. They lost to the Volunteers in the finale, but had little to play for. With a regular season win over the Gators, they are not afraid to go toe-to-toe with the best in the conference. The Tigers would love nothing more than to win the tournament as a newcomer in the conference and they have the talent to do it.
