2012 CFL Grey Cup Futures

The Quest for the 2012 CFL Grey Cup begins this Friday Night – 2012 CFL Grey Cup Futures

The start of this year’s CFL regular season is slated for this Friday as each team begins its quest for a shot at playing for the Grey Cup in late November. The following is a brief look at both the East and West Divisions along with each team’s current odds to win this year’s title as provided by Sports InterAction.

East Division

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 9/2

Hamilton finished 8-10 straight-up (9-9 against the spread) last season but beat Montreal 52-44 in overtime of the East Division Semifinals as a six-point road underdog before losing to Winnipeg 19-3 as a three-point road dog in the Division Finals. Henry Burris will start the season at quarterback for the Tiger-Cats after coming over in a trade from Calgary.

Montreal Alouettes 11/2
Sports Interaction
The two-time Grey Cup Champions in 2009 and 2010 will look to get back on top after the disappointing loss to the Tiger-Cats in the 2011 playoffs. Montreal finished the regular season 10-8 SU but went 6-12 ATS. Long-time signal caller and all-time league passer in total yards Anthony Calvillo will be starting his 19th season in the CFL.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 6/1

The Blue Bombers run to the Grey Cup Championship ended with a 34-23 loss to British Columbia as 7.5-point road underdogs. They finished 10-8 SU (11-6-1 ATS) and won the East Division on a tie-breaker. Chris Garrett will take over as Winnipeg’s featured running back and Paul Hubbard joins the team as another target for quarterback Buck Pierce.

Toronto Argonauts 6/1

Toronto missed the postseason in 2011 with an overall record of 6-12 SU (9-9 ATS) after making the playoffs with a 9-9 SU record the year before. The Argonauts decided to trade for former Edmonton quarterback Ricky Ray in an effort to turn things back around in 2012.

West Division

British Columbia Lions 7/2

The defending champions are the odds-on-favorite to repeat and for good reason. The roster from last year’s team that went 11-7 SU (10-7 ATS) in the regular season and rolled through the postseason remains basically intact. Most importantly it still includes quarterback Travis Lulay, who posted 32 touchdown passes verse just 11 interceptions in last year’s run to the title.

Calgary Stampeders 5/1

The Lions’ biggest opposition in the West should come from the Stampeders. They finished third in the division last year at 11-7 SU (10-7-1 ATS) only because of losing a three-way tie-break with BC and Edmonton. Look for Drew Tate to have a possible break-out season as the Stampeders’ new starting quarterback.

Edmonton Eskimos 9/1

The loss of Ray to Toronto has the Oddsmakers predicting a downturn for the Eskimos in 2012 after a surprising 11-7 SU (9-9 ATS) finish in 2011 and a run all the way to the West Division Finals. They have named Steven Jyles as his replacement, but Edmonton still has veteran quarterback Kerry Joseph waiting in the wings is Jyles fails to get the team off to a fast start.

Saskatchewan Roughriders 9/1

Saskatchewan will look to pick-up the pieces from a 5-13 SU (6-11 ATS) campaign in 2011 after appearing in back-to-back Grey Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010. The Roughriders were a woeful 2-7 SU on the road last year and 0-10 SU against the division. If they are going to have any chance at remaining competitive this season, they will need a much better effort from quarterback Darian Durant. He led the CFL in total passing yards in 2010, but last season managed to throw for just 3,653 yards while tallying 18 touchdown passes verse 14 interceptions in an injury-plagued campaign.
