Jawon Davis tore up the turf for 130 rushing yards on Thursday to lead the Owls to a 37-34 win over the Blazers at Legion Field.
Rice won on the scoreboard, but lost at the pay window as they failed to cover the 17-point spread. The game went OVER the consensus closing total of 63.5.
Taylor McHargue completed 10 of 19 pass attempts for 139 yards for the Owls in the win. He did not throw an interception in the game.
Jonathan Perry rushed for 60 yards for UAB, while Jordan Howard added 41 yards. Jonathan Perry threw for 195 yards for the Blazers, while receivers Jamarcus Nelson and Darius Powell had 127 and 27 yards respectively.
UAB lost the offensive yardage battle to Rice 467-333 yards in Thursday's game. Rice had more first downs as that total ended up 26-16.
Rice led the time of possession tally, as the game finished as a 33:28/26:32 split in that important category.
Next game, Rice takes its act home to face Tulane looking for another win. For UAB, they head home to face Southern Miss.
