Former major-league great Vladimir Guerrero has signed with the independent-league Long Island Ducks. FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal first reported the news, and the team has since confirmed.
The 38-year-old Guerrero hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011, although last season he held workouts for a handful of interested teams. Across 16 seasons in the bigs, Guerrero owns a batting line of .318/.379/.553 with 2,590 hits; 449 homers and 477 doubles to his credit. In a related matter, Guerrero also has a defensible hall-of-fame case.
It certainly seems likely Guerrero's major-league career is over for good and all, but the man clearly wants to continue playing baseball. Nothing wrong with that.
