The Ravens wanted wide receiver Anquan Boldin to take a pay cut so they could keep him in 2013. Boldin had zero interest in taking less money ... so the Ravens traded him.
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirms the Ravens sent Boldin packing to, of all places, San Francisco. In exchange, the 49ers send Baltimore their sixth-round pick in 2013. Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun first reported the news.
That might seem like a pittance, but it's impressive the Ravens were able to get anything for Boldin; he wasn't taking less money, which meant they would be forced to cut him if they couldn't make the deal.
As for the 49ers, well, they got to see first hand what Boldin is still capable of doing. Boldin caught six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown against San Francisco in the Super Bowl.
A couple things here.
One, the fact that the 49ers went out and dealt for a wideout immediately after the Seahawks did the same thing is awesome. There is nothing better in football than a good old fashioned arms race between divisional rivals.
Two, the Harbaughs just executed a trade! Sure, it was actually Trent Baalke and Ozzie Newsome who did the deal, but we can dream about the brothers calling each other and making a deal, right?
