Free play

Play on: (15-11) Iona (711) over (16-11) Fairfield @ 7:00 Eastern

This season the Stags have had booked a streaking personality. In December they won 6 straight, January they went on a downer dropping 5 in a row. Further, in late January and early February, Fairfield with a 6-1 run. They are coming off a blistering 74-52 win over Siena. Back in January the Stags defeated the Gaels 84-73.

Iona’s best run this season started in late December and ended in January with an 8-1 streak. Since January 31st the Gaels have lost 4 of the last 5, last time out losing a heart breaking 74-73 game to improved Manhattan in New York. In fact, each of those loses were very winnable games. Iona has won 4 of the last 5 SU in the series. And, although, the Stags appear to the edge with a more balanced attack and the superior defense on their home floor, prefer Iona who is about to turn it around with a effective performance as the road team is 4-1 ATS in the recent battles. Good Luck.

CHRIS JORDAN

Going to celebrate President's Day with a free pick on the Drexel Dragons, getting it done over the Hofstra Pride, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, in Drexel's final game of a three-game homestand.

The Dragons (10-15, 6-7 CAA) are coming in looking to avenge a Valentine's Day loss in the DAC, as they dropped a 68-62 decision to George Mason last Thursday.

And I think Drexel will be coming in pissed off after it held a slim margin for a majority of the game, but couldn't extend the lead past eight points, eventually handing the lead over to Mason midway through the second half.

The game, which featured nine ties and seven lead changes, was back and forth until the Patriots went ahead for good on a late 3-pointer with 1:57 left in the game.

Tonight won't even be half as close, as the Dragons take on a struggling Hofstra team that will be playing its third road game in its last four outings. The Pride (6-20, 3-10 CAA) is in after losing to Towson on Saturday, 57-50. The Pride is just 1-12 away from home this season, and is mired in a 4-10 ATS slide dating back to last season.

Lay the chalk here, as the Dragons will win by at least two touchdowns.

CRAIG DAVIS

Free play of the day on the Pittsburgh Panthers over Notre Dame in a key Big East tussle.

These two teams are absolute mirrors of each other in terms of records and common opponents... but the biggest difference is the reason the Panthers are going to cover this large number.

The first thing that should have grabbed your attention was the fact that this line is ridiculously high. Seriously... teams with the exact same record shouldn't be favored by double digits... should they? Especially when neither team is in the top 10 in national ranking.

Pittsburgh started the season better than expected, and aside from a hard-fought 67-62 loss to Michigan in Game #5 of their season, the Panthers would have been 13-0 to start Big East Conference play.

Again, no one saw that coming as Jamie Dixon was expected to be in a two-year "rebuilding" process.

As luck would have it, the Panthers were able to beat Georgetown like a drum for their first win of the Big East season, and considering they lost their first two to Cincinnati and Rutgers, that win was absolutely crucial.

Both teams are 8-5 in conference play and 20-6 overall... Pitt is 13-2 at home and 4-3 on the road while the Irish are 15-3 at home and 3-3 on the road... and yet this is the first meeting between these schools this year and the first since 2011.

Irish G Scott Martin, who ranks 4th on the team in minutes and averages nearly 10 points per game, will sit this one out with a lingering knee injury.

With him or without him, I'd take the Panthers to roll Notre Dame as your free play of the day.

2* PITTSBURGH

JEFF BENTON

Monday freebie is another big-chalk favorite, as I side with Kansas State at home over West Virginia.

The Mountaineers were routed by 20 points midweek last week at Baylor, and over the weekend they struggled at home as the -13 1/2 point favorite in their two point win over lowly Texas Tech.

I get the feeling West Virginia is going to struggle again tonight on the road, as they face a Kansas State team that just rolled the same Baylor team the Mounties lost to by 20 points on Saturday.

K-State is 12-1 straight up at the Bramlage Coliseum, and they have been able to go 7-3 against the spread in their lined home games. The Wildcats bested the Mountaineers in Morgantown in January, pushing as the -1 point road choice, and with Bruce Weber's team looking to stay in contention for the regular season conference title, I expect a fully focused effort from the host this Monday night on national television.

The Mountaineers struggle again on the conference road.

Take Kansas State to roll to the big home court win and cover.

3* KANSAS STATE

SCOTT DELANEY

My free pick for Monday night is out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, where I'm playing Fairfield, which will continue its home stand against Iona, at Webster Bank Arena.

Though the Gaels have the better record in this matchup, I can't ignore the competitiveness of the Stags (16-11, 8-7 MAAC) lately, including a 74-52 win against Siena last Thursday night. They're in after receiving a remarkable performance from senior Derek Needham, who netted eight 3-pointers en route to a 31-point performance, missing his career high for scoring by one point. His eight 3-point field goals were one shy of the school record. Needham is the team's scoring leader with a 14.6 scoring average, the only Stag averaging more than 10 points per contest.

He's a big reason the Stags roll into this contest having won six of seven games.

The Gaels (15-11, 9-6) are in after a disappointing, 74-73 double-overtime loss at Manhattan on Friday. Iona started this three-game road trip with in Manhattan and will end up at Indiana State on Feb. 23 for a BracketBusters event. And as good as the Gaels appear to be on paper, they've lost four of five games heading into this one, and are in on ATS losing streaks of 1-4 against winning teams, 1-6 on the road and 0-5 overall - all in MAAC play.

Meanwhile, the Stags check in on an ATS win streak of 4-1 overall - all in league action.

Let's lay the deuce with Fairfield.

4* FAIRFIELD

Jim Feist's FREE Basketball Play for Monday 2/18

CB (701) HOFSTRA at (702) DREXEL

Take: Under

This Hofstra club has been an amazing under play. In fact, every game this season with a over/under line in Hofstra's schedule has gone UNDER. That includes the last four games, last 11 games and 12 total unders in 12 posted over/unders this season. That's 0-12 O/U!!! Drexel started the season hitting some overs, going over in their first three posted totals. Since then, the Dragons have gone 5-8 Over/Under. That includes eight of the last 11 games going UNDER. We get a 117.5 total here on Monday. Don't expect Hofstra to get much over 50, so even 60 by Drexel won't put this over. I look for another UNDER here on Monday.

BIG AL's BIG MONDAY NCAA HOOPS HIGH ROLLER!

Game Date/Time: 2/18/13 9:00 pm
Our Selection: W. Virginia Opponent: Kansas St. Line: +11 Rating: Opinion
Analysis: At 9 pm, our selection is on the West Virginia Mountaineers + the points over Kansas St. The main storyline in this game is that it will be the first game coached by Bob Huggins at Bramlage Coliseum since he left Kansas St. for WVU after just one season on the job. These two squads did meet a little over five weeks ago in Morgantown, and the Wildcats came away with a 1-point win, 65-64. K-State is 9-3 in conference play, and sits in a tie for first place, while WVU is 6-6 (though it has won four of its last five games). The Wildcats won 81-61 vs. Baylor on Saturday (as a 4.5-point favorite), while WVU eked out a 2-point win vs. Texas Tech (as a 14-point favorite). I fully expect another low-scoring, hard fought game, and the double digits are too good to pass up. Indeed, winning double digit underdogs are an awesome 38-13 ATS since 1991 when playing with same season revenge, if they're off a pointspread loss, and matched up against a foe playing with 1 day or less of rest. And Big 12 teams are a poor 14-25 ATS this season in conference games off a SU/ATS win. Take West Virginia.

Wunderdog

Game: Norfolk State at Hampton (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Norfolk State -1 (-110)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Norfolk State Spartans made an NCAA Tournament appearance a year ago. It was more than an appearance as they knocked off Missouri. They enter this game at 16-10, and have caught fire as they continue to improve. The Spartans have won ten straight games. Hampton is 10-13, but have won their last five. However, a closer look shows how fortunate they have been. They have won two of them in overtime and all five by a combined 16 points. That may not be so bad, except those five opponents have a combined record of 45-75. That isn't what they will be seeing tonight. The Spartans are 12-4 ATS following a win and are on a roll. Play on Norfolk State.
