Saturday's List of 13: Random thoughts with weekend here......

13) Spurs’ guard Stephen Jackson sprained his ankle Thursday when he tripped over a waitress at courtside, who was taking a drink order for New York’s billionaire mayor, Michael Bloomberg. Seriously.

Betcha Gregg Popovich just loved that.

12) David Stern said he envisions multiple NBA teams in Europe within 20 years. At one point, think he wanted a five-team division of European teams. We’ll see, but I’m not enthusiastic about that idea.

11) Once he’s in the NFL, will Chip Kelly go for two points after his first TD of every game, like he does at Oregon?

10) KC Chiefs canned GM Scott Pioli after he stole their money for four years; another guy who made a fortune because he knows Tom Brady. Pioli created an atmosphere of paranoia and mistrust in Kansas City; maybe he can crawl back to Foxboro and get a job working for the Patriots again.

9) Bill O’Brien interviewed with the Browns, but stays at Penn State; that $9.2M buyout was too expensive, I guess. O’Brien’s interview was only an hour; coaching interviews, I am told, usually take a lot longer than that.

8) Its January 5, and the PGA Tour has started already; problem is, they've had terrible wind/rain in Hawai'i, are having trouble getting tournament going .

Its summer in Australia, by the way; looking forward to watching the Australian Open tennis tournament starting January 14—good to watch late at night while I’m handicapping games.

7) Odd college basketball game of the weekend: St Bonaventure at Colorado State. Its not easy to get from Olean to Fort Collins. Or back.

6) NCAA is considering a proposals where kids with a 2.6 or better GPA can transfer and not have to sit out a year. In other words, don’t tick off the smart kids, or they can walk.

5) Oregon got a one-point safety Thursday, only the 4th-known instance of this happening in college football. Oregon’s PAT was blocked, recovered on the 2-yard line, then the K-State player retreated into the end zone and was tackled, giving Oregon the PAT, or in effect a 1-point safety.

4) Andy Reid gets a 5-year deal with the Chiefs; KC plays the Eagles next year, I’m guessing on a Monday night in September.

3) According to payneinsider.com, since 1985, Heisman Trophy winners are 9-17 vs spread (34.6%) in their bowl games that season.

Make that 10-17 (37.0%) after Texas A&M's win Friday.

2) If NHL owners don’t want to have a hockey season, why did they bother buying teams?

1) That didn’t take long; Ray Lewis has a multi-year deal with ESPN to work on their Monday Night Football pre/post-game shows. That gives him a flexible schedule so he can go see his son play football at Miami.

At least there is no excuse for doing stupid plays in the NFL. Had Texas A&M to win the game by almost 5 points yesterday and of course like an idiot I play Oklahoma plus the points. The 4th time this bowl season I did this and lost each time. How do you spell stupid? S-P-O-O-K-Y

Here are a couple for today I am playing. Really like Green Bay and see it as a high scoring game as well.

NFL

HOUSTON TEXANS -3 (buy pt)

GREEN BAY PACKERS -7

Sunday's six-pack

In my opinion, the six best quarterbacks in the NFL.......

6) Eli Manning, Giants-- Others are higher on him than I am.

5) Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers-- Needs to get shoulder cleaned up.

4) Aaron Rodgers, Packers-- No scholarship offers out of high school?

3) Drew Brees, Saints-- Most people wouldn't have him this high.

2) Peyton Manning, Broncos-- He's also the offensive coordinator.

1) Tom Brady, Patriots-- Has made people around him very wealthy.

Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday......

13) I wonder how many people turned off an NFL playoff game because Christian Ponder wasn't playing last night; Joe Webb got thrown into a bad situation, and the predictable 24-10 Packer win resulted. Ugly game; NFL would've been better off with the Packers winning last week and Chicago making the playoffs. But the Express was riding the Packers regardless and cashed the ticket.

12) Read some complaints during the day that, given the poor quality of play Saturday, the last thing the NFL needs is more teams in the playoffs. Not sure I agree with that, but they were an interesting comments.

11) Cincinnati Bengals are now 0-6 in road playoff games, after a 19-13 loss in Houston; you allow one TD, you should win. You score one TD and kick four FGs and still win, then you were fortunate.

10) Marvin Lewis hasn't won a playoff game in ten years as the Bengals' coach, but before you bury him, consider that in the 11 years before Lewis became Cincinnati's coach, the Bengals were 52-124. He has done a terrific job working for a cheapskate owner.

9) Biggest college basketball upset Saturday: St John's (+13.5) 53-52 win at Cincinnati. Good win for Steve Lavin's struggling team.

8) Delaware won 84-72 at struggling Old Dominion; Blue Hens made 41-50 foul shots. Not sure I've ever seen the visiting team take 50 foul shots in a 40-minute game. ODU was 20-34 at the charity stripe.

7) There were 1,017 field goals tried in NFL's 256 regular season games, most in league history.

6) Clippers raced out to a 35-12 first quarter lead, pounded Golden State by 26, avenging a loss earlier in the week.

5) Big Ten Network needs better announcers; too much hype. Don't want lot of yelling and guys telling me how great everything is. I already have the game on; stop selling it to me, and let me watch.

4) Carolina Panthers kept Ron Rivera, which isn't surprising; once they let John Fox go, you know they like to work on the cheap, so they're not going to pay Rivera to go away. Plus, Panthers won their last four games, to finish 7-9; do they have momentum going into 2013?

3) Illinois State is 0-3 in MVC after losing at home to Northern Iowa; Pitt is 0-2 in Big East after losing at Rutgers. Couple of teams who had promising Decembers but are now very hungry for a conference win.

2) Illinois whacked Ohio State 74-55; wire-to-wire thrashing. Surprising result. Doesn't appear to be any dominant teams this year.

1) Ole Miss' win in Compass Bowl clinches a winning bowl season for the SEC; they're 5-3 with Monday's Alabama game left to play.

Nice day yesterday and almost forgot to post todays since I was updating the bowl express thread. Really not sure on the Indy game and cant really zero in on this game. Like the Over and Ravens but nothing worth posting or playing. So not sure what I am dong on the first game but I absolutely positively love the second game. I have Seattle in my NFL futures for NFC and Super Bowl at nice odds so not jumping off the bandwagon now.

NFL

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS PK (moneyline)
