Michigan State's advantage

The Spartans have pinned their hopes on their defense all season and this game will be no different. They ranked fourth in the nation in total defense and eighth in rushing defense, and certainly will be tested against a TCU offense that struggled to score points. However, freshman quarterback Trevone Boykin is a threat to run and throw, picking up 380 yards on the ground while throwing for 1,853 yards and 15 touchdowns in just eight games as a starter. Running back Matthew Tucker is also healthy after an ankle injury slowed him during the season and Josh Boyce (61 catches, 800 yards, seven touchdowns) leads a talented group of receivers.

Bell ran for 587 yards in his final three games, including a monstrous 266 yards and a touchdown against Minnesota to cap the regular season. The Spartans' formula is simple - control the ball with Bell and rely on their powerful defense which ranked fourth in the nation at 274 yards per game. TCU is no slouch on that side of the ball either as the Horned Frogs ranked 18th in the country in total defense.
