Spread: 49ers minus-7
Public consensus pick: 61 percent picked 49ers
SuperContestants: 168-109 in favor of 49ers
Public perception: The 49ers are a top Super Bowl contender, and the Colin Kaepernick bandwagon has been filling up. Besides, the public still finds it hard to back the Rams.
Wiseguys' view: The wiseguys know that the Rams have been every bit the money-earner as the 49ers, as they're both 7-4 ATS.
Tuley's Take: I had the Rams plus-13.5 against the 49ers three weeks ago and watched the whole game. The Rams outgained the 49ers by more than 100 yards and should have won the game before settling for the 24-24 tie (and easy cover). It sure didn't look like a fluke, so I'm glad to take the full touchdown with the home dog. The pick: Rams.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh deserves coach of the year consideration. Despite critical injuries, the Ravens (9-2) are on the verge of clinching a playoff berth. He'd be the first coach since the Steelers' Bill Cowher (1992-1997) to reach the playoffs in each of his first five seasons.
Prevent Jackson from seeing much action. The Buccaneers signed Northern Colorado graduate Vincent Jackson to a $55.56 million contract in the offseason to give their offense some serious pop. He has done just that, averaging just over 20 yards a catch to go with his seven touchdowns. Freeman looks to him plenty and has targeted him at least 10 times in five games this season. Jackson has never had a 100-yard receiving game in 12 previous meetings against the Broncos and has topped 73 yards just twice.
Seahawks/Bears was slow to open because of multiple injuries to the Bears. Seahawks also had 2 corners suspended for banned substances. The 2 corners have since appealed and their suspensions have been postponed for now. The Bears poor OL has been further compromised by both starting guards being out. The Bears opened -4 and has been steadily bet down to the current -3.
Vikings/Packers. Packers opened -9 but quickly bet down. The game has teetered between -7 with juice on the favorite to -8. The +8 is pretty much gone and even +7.5 will have juice on the dog in most places.
49ers/Rams. Wiseguys have taken the 7.5 flat on the Rams all week as it has appeared. The public keeps laying it back. A mirror image of the above game with juice on the favorite at -7 and juice on the dog at +7.5.
Cardinals/Jets. Jets opened -4.5 and has steadily climbed. Now up to -6 with no end in sight. Bonus points for naming the Cardinal QB. Cards opened the season 4-0. Now 4-7.
