A DOUBLE HELPING OF JIMMY THE GREEK SAYS

Northern Illinois -19.5 over Eastern Michigan:
Ranked for the first time in two years, the No. 24 Huskies look to tie a school record with their 11th straight victory and continue their dominance over host Eastern Michigan on Friday. Northern Illinois (10-1, 7-0) has won 15 consecutive games over MAC opponents -- the longest league winning streak in the nation. Paced by dual-threat quarterback Jordan Lynch, the Huskies secured their third straight trip to the conference title game with a 31-24 home win over Toledo last Wednesday.

That victory also helped Northern Illinois crack the Top 25 for the first time since Nov. 28, 2010. The Huskies, who opened the season with an 18-17 loss to Iowa at Soldier Field, have won 19 of 20 overall. The program last won 11 in a row over the 1964-65 seasons. The Huskies, whose last league defeat came at Central Michigan on Oct. 1, 2011, will face No. 23 Kent State in the MAC championship game Nov. 30 in Detroit. Beating Eastern Michigan (2-9, 1-6) has been a regular occurrence for Northern Illinois, which has won four in a row and 10 of 11 in the series. The Huskies have outscored the Eagles 218-40 during a five-game winning streak in Ypsilanti dating to a 39-32 loss in 2000.

Lynch has more than filled the void left by Harnish's graduation, throwing for 2,582 yards with 22 TDs and four interceptions while rushing for 1,504 yards and 16 scores in 2012. He leads all FBS quarterbacks in rushing and his 136.7 rushing yards per game rank third overall in the subdivision. The junior joins Michigan's Denard Robinson as the only quarterbacks ever to surpass 1,500 yards rushing and 2,500 passing. He needs 199 yards to break Robinson's FBS single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback, set in 2010. Senior Martel Moore has set career highs with 58 receptions, 899 receiving yards and 10 TDs. He caught seven passes for a season-high 153 yards and two scores versus Toledo.

Defensively, the Huskies are giving up 18.5 points per contest. That does not bode well for an Eastern Michigan squad that has been outscored 176-21 during its four-game skid in the series. Versatile senior Alex Gillett recorded 142 total yards as the Eagles snapped a three-game overall slide with a 29-23 win at Western Michigan on Saturday. Gillett threw for 147 yards with a TD and ran for 67 more in last year's 18-12 loss at NIU.

This is the second time I've backed the Huskies all season as a best bet, of course laying all out on NIU when they pounded an at the time winless UMass team 63-0 last month as a 5 TD favorite. Look for the Huskies to pound it out on the ground once again against a weak Eastern Michigan defense. If the Eagles want to avoid a second straight shut out against the Huskies, they will have to go to the air as the Huskies rank just 89th in passing defense.

Utah St -38 over Idaho:
Idaho closes out a dismal 2012 with Utah State who has been the monster of the WAC. The one win Vandals have struggled to score and get stop the entire season and week 12 was a prime example of these issues in a 34-27 los to Texas-San Antonio although a single score defeat was actually a great performance. Idaho held a 469-430 edge in yardage but lost a pair of fumbles, were intercepted once and were whistled for 12 penalties for 100 yards. Idaho did not run the ball much with 27 tries for 127 yards but Taylor Davis (18-29/233) led a second half charge from a 20-3 hole with three touchdown throws with Mike Scott (10-116) receiving two.

The Aggies have not disappointed as they are on the brink of wrapping up the WAC title and recording ten wins in the process. The Aggies survived their biggest conference test Saturday in a 48-41 overtime decision that was essentially the WAC championship. As expected, neither team stopped the other with both easily surpassing the 600 yard mark. The difference was USU was mistake free and La Tech gave the ball away three times. The back field duo of Kerwynn Williams and Chuckie Keaton combined for 283 yards on 37 carries while the right arm of Keaton (20-34/340) was explosive with a pair of TD strikes.

Utah State has been dominating the first-half of its last four games as it held a 28-0 lead against New Mexico State, a 27-3 lead at UTSA, a 35-0 lead against Texas State, and a 17-3 lead at No. 19 Louisiana Tech. During its last four games, USU is averaging 26.8 points in the first half to go along with 305.3 yards of total offense (207.3-passing, 98.0-rushing). Defensively, USU is allowing just 1.5 points and 160.6 yards of total offense (89.3-passing, 70.8-rushing) in the first half during its last four games.

Those of you that have followed my third consecutive season over 69% have noticed we've gone against Idaho over the last 2 weekends. We grabbed BYU early at home giving 5 TD's and a field goal and were fortunate to cover with a 52-13 win. Last week we backed UTSA who built a big lead and held on for a 34-27 win against a determined Vandal squad at home. Third time a charm? Worth a shot. Best of luck however you play!

YTD 9-4
