PATS D PLANS
Devin McCourty made his first start at safety this season in the teams’ initial meeting Oct. 21 and he played conservatively, though Sanchez only hit his side of the field for 20 yards on one occasion. Tavon Wilson was the other safety, and Kyle Arrington and Alfonzo Dennard were the cornerbacks.
Tomorrow, Aqib Talib and Dennard figure to start at corner with McCourty and Steve Gregory at safety. The stability in the secondary played into the Patriots’ decision to ratchet up their aggressiveness. After all, if the coaches can trust the back end to cover, they’ll give the guys up front more chances to make plays in the offensive backfield.
“We always want to play aggressively,” said Gregory, who had a hip injury in Week 7. “That’s what defense is about, being aggressive, playing physical and flying around to the ball. That’s going to be key.”
