Final Score: Tampa Bay 15, New York 8

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - B.J. Upton, Johnny Damon and Ben Zobrist homered and drove in three runs apiece as the Rays pounded the AL East-champion New York Yankees, 15-8, to gain ground in the playoff hunt. Matt Joyce had a two- run single in the first inning for Tampa Bay, which moved within two games of Boston for the lead in the wild card standings. The Rays lost three of four games in the Bronx, but will now head home to finish the season with three this weekend against Toronto and then a trio vs. the Yankees. The Red Sox, who were idle Thursday, play on the road against the Yankees this weekend before ending the season in Baltimore. Matt Moore (1-0), in his first major league start and third career appearance, had 11 strikeouts through five innings while giving up just four hits. The Yankees swept a doubleheader Wednesday, on the way to winning the division, but Bartolo Colon was pounded and New York committed four errors in the finale of this series. Colon (8-10) gave up seven hits and seven runs -- five earned -- over three innings. He's winless in his last nine appearances (0-4).

Final Score: Oakland 4, Texas 3

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Jemile Weeks had three hits, including his first career home run, and scored the winning run in the eighth as the Oakland Athletics came back to defeat the Texas Rangers, 4-3, and salvage a three-game set. Mike Adams (1-3) came on in the eighth and allowed the go-ahead run. Weeks sliced a one-out double into the left-center gap and Coco Crisp came through with a groundball into the hole on the right side of the infield, which brought home Weeks for a 4-3 lead. Grant Balfour (5-2) worked a 1-2-3 eighth to pick up the win for the A's, who had lost three straight and six of their past eight. Andrew Bailey saved his 21st game of the year by retiring the Rangers in order in the ninth. Josh Hamilton, Yorvit Torrealba and Michael Young each had two hits for the Rangers as their magic number to clinch the AL West was reduced to two when the Angels lost in Toronto.

Final Score: Toronto 4, LA Angels of Anaheim 3 (12 innings)

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Edwin Encarnacion laced a line-drive game- winning home run down the left-field line in the 12th inning to lift the Toronto Blue Jays over the Angels 4-3, hampering Los Angeles' chances of reaching the postseason. The Angels fell three games behind the AL wild- card leading Boston Red Sox, who were idle on Thursday. The Angels dropped a game behind the Tampa Bay Rays, who defeated the New York Yankees, 15-8, Thursday. Jose Bautista had three hits with an RBI and run scored while Eric Thames added two hits, including a home run for the Blue Jays, who are now 11-0 in extra inning games this season. Final Score: Minnesota 3, Seattle 2

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Rene Tosoni finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, the last one a game-winner, as Minnesota put the brakes on its 11- game losing skid with a 3-2 decision over Seattle in the finale of a three- game set. Trevor Plouffe worked a two-out walk against Steve Delabar (1-1), and raced home when Tosoni crushed a ball to the gap in right-center which took one bounce and rebounded off the scoreboard.
