Dallas' Dirk Nowitki undergoes knee surgery, out at least 6 weeks
by Jon Heyman-cbssportsline.com
Well, we had warned that things weren't fine and dandy with Nowitzki's knee from all the signs, and while he's not out for a huge period of time, he's going to miss the start of the season. The Mavericks announced Friday afternoon that Dirk Nowitzki underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will resume on-court activity in six weeks.
That means just to get him back on the floor will take six weeks, then he has to get back into conditioning and be able to get game time. The announcement leaves some wiggle room, saying he can be back "within six weeks" but there's also some lag afterwards.
The announcement comes as a surprise as just this week Mark Cuban said Nowitzki would be fine and Nowitzki himself said he was going to try an avoid surgery if he could at all.
If Nowitzki were to miss six weeks only, he'd be back right around the December 3rd game vs. Detroit, missing 16 games. Ten of those sixteen games are against potential playoff teams.
The Mavericks' first month of the schedule:
Tue 30 @ L.A. Lakers
Wed 31 @ Utah
Sat 3 vs Charlotte
Mon 5 vs Portland
Wed 7 vs Toronto
Fri 9 @ New York
Sat 10 @ Charlotte

Wed 14 vs Washington
Fri 16 @ Indiana
Sat 17 @ Cleveland
Mon 19 vs Golden State
Wed 21 vs New York
Sat 24 vs L.A. Lakers

WOW.. You are not kidding about the lost of injuries... SEEMS like 2011 & 2012 have been plagued with them in all sports..
Is it me or does it seems like we've had more than the "normal" amount of injuries lately (whatever a normal amount would be) or does it just seem that way because we've some some really severe injuries?
At my age Rolling out of Bed in the morning is easy!
Getting back up off the floor is a different story!
