A-Rod is getting all of the headlines, but he wasn't the reason the Yanks got swept....the team hit a collective .188 for the playoffs which I believe I heard is a record for futility for a team playing at least 7 playoff games...in reality they got saved by one meatball pitch by Jim Johnson to Ibanez or they probably would have been beaten by the Orioles..really Sabathia and Jeter beat the O's by themselves....
Here are the bloody batting stats...
Cano 3 for 40
Granderson 3 for 30
Swisher 5 for 30
Martin 5 for 31
Chavez 0 for 16 with 8 k's...
Just amazing....people are criticizing Girardi for changing up the line-up and benching some of the guys but damn what was he supposed to do?
Will be an interesting offseason in the Bronx for sure...
TOO MUCH EGO... I have always said you can sink all the money in the world in a team and buy all the quality you want but it doesn't make a winning team. You have to have a good mix.. Talent, age, youth and heart... The Yanks have some great players but when they don't mesh as a team... that's all she wrote. Look at whats in the playoffs - teams have to have heart and that "we" or "team" spirit. They can't just think they are good and are therefor going to win. (Just my humble opinion)
Anytime you can drive in runs in only 3 innings out of the 4 games and hit just .157 collectively you know there are going to be major changes ahead in the offseason at the Bronx Zoo. You can pitch all you want solidly but you are not going to win if your offense is not at the very least at some sort of consistency or respectability. Granted they had some tough times with possibly the exception of game 1 against Baltimore at the plate, but you can't just conceed whether you hit .150 during the regular season or .350. Instead of rallying around their captain's season ending injury other than game 1 they showed no fight nor heart laying down like a defeated team.

Ego is a big factor, and also motivation. When you're guaranteed 15M and up per-year it must be easy to go through the motions. I wish for just one year players played for incentives. I think you'd see a lot more hussle. The other thing I've noticed about the Yanks is, apart from Gardner and Jeter they don't even run hard to first.
To me it's a bad mix of characters, they need character, someone like Posey behind the plate for instance. Just no pride.
