Heres an article I saw online... Would love to hear thoughts on this:
A sports bettor managed to take full advantage of one of College Football’s biggest upsets in 32 years this past weekend as Texas State went on to beat Houston 30-13 as a +34.5 underdog.
William Hill, no relation to the big name British bookmaker, placed his $2000 bet at Binions Sportsbook in Las Vegas. He got 60-1 odds on the bet and netted a cool $120,000 as the Bobcats went on to upset Houston.
Chris Chase of USAToday.com writes:
Our friends at LostLetterman.com referred to him as a "lucky bettor." We say anyone who seeks out one of the few casinos to offer a money-line on Houston-Texas State and plunked down $2,000 on the massive dog is more than lucky. "Degenerative" is a word that comes to mind, but so do other phrases like "way too knowledgeable about future Sun Belt members" and "must be so attuned to the workings of the Houston Cougars athletic department that it could be Clyde Drexler."
I saw this story and I'm not sure what to think....doesn't say anything about any other wagers he might have made....Betting $2k on a 60-1 is pretty nutso if you ask me, but hey maybe the dude is worth a pile of cash and $2k is nothing to him...
Like Finance said............we don't know his betting pattern(s) for the day or month, etc. He may lay a thou or two on every dog above, like 40-1, that he can find anywhere. Just finding the house to offer it is a longshot in itself. But, good for him. Can's say I wish it was me as I don't play either way with those huge odds, so I can't rightfully wish.
Never, ever criticize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes........for at that point they will be a mile away. And you'll have their shoes !
Considering that this was the biggest egg I ever laid in the history of my best betting in CFB, this play was anything but luck. If the offensive coordinator can walk after just one game after the post Keenum era, you have to wonder how embarrassing this loss was for the Cougars after playing in the Conf USA Championship just a year ago. Sometimes it pays to take a chance on a huge dog, and if you got the smack funds to back it up, it's a well-deserved win and even moreso on the ridiculous ML.
Hope all of you were on Cincy tonight as it would have qualified as a revenge week 2 play. Just had no time to do a writeup for it. Will have an alternate play to try and turn the tide for week 2.

I'd have to agree that it was luck or a homer bet! Perhaps he or one of his kids went to school at Texas State! But no way could I even consider putting 2k on a 60-1 shot unless It was someone else's money - yep I'd say pure Luck!
