Didn't they recently find another continuation of the calendar or something? So basically, for all these years with people thinking this was it....flew right out the window?
I'm pretty sure you're right....that's the problem with trying to translate shit that's 5,000 years old....hell maybe the calendar was just some porno rag from back then....LMAO
Honestly, I don't know........I'm really not following/reading it that closely. I pretty much dismiss it all as bullchit. No win catch 22 situation for someone who is truly a believer tho (And I do know a couple.) I mean,if they are right, they won't be around to tell everyone "I told you so". And if they are wrong, everyone will be laughing at them for being wrong. LOL,LOL,LOL.
Misinterpretation of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar is the basis for a popular belief that a cataclysm will take place on December 21, 2012. December 21, 2012 is simply the day that the calendar will go to the next b'ak'tun, at Long Count 220.127.116.11.0. The date on which the calendar will go to the next piktun (a complete series of 20 b'ak'tuns), at Long Count 18.104.22.168.0.0, will be on October 13, 4772.
Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc.(FAMSI), notes that "for the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle". She considers the portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."
The above is from Wikipedia....actually lots of good detail there if you're interested...still don't know how you look at that stuff and tell it's a calendar, but WTF do I know?
