2012 MLB SCHEDULE OUT

You thought this season started off unbalanced??

MLB releases 2012 schedule
by Matt Snyder cbssportsline.com

Wednesday morning, Major League Baseball revealed its full schedule for the 2012 regular season. We'll hit a few of the highlights here, but keep in mind breaking down a full 162-game slate is a bit different than, say, 16 games (yeah, you understand).

• The newly-named Miami Marlins will open their own -- finally baseball-only -- ballpark on April 4 against the Cardinals. It will be the first game of the season and the only game played on that day (a Wednesday). April 5, a Thursday, there are six games. April 6 has 10 games and then finally there's a full slate of games on Saturday, April 7.

• The first wave of interleague play begins Friday, May 18. It opens with a bang, as we'll get Yankees-Reds, Rays-Braves, Phillies-Red Sox, Brewers-Twins and Cubs-White Sox, among others.

• Some of the more interesting interleague matchups include: the Red Sox visiting the Cubs at Wrigley Field; the Giants against the Angels, a rematch of the 2002 World Series; the Braves visiting the Yankees, a rematch of the 1996 World Series; the Phillies visiting the Blue Jays, possibly seeing Roy Halladay pitch in his former home stadium for the second straight season; and Rays-Phillies, a rematch of the 2008 World Series. And, of course, we'll have all the traditional interleague rivalries like Yankees-Mets, Dodgers-Angels, Cubs-White Sox, Giants-A's, etc.

• The first day of the MLB Draft will be June 4.

• The All-Star Game is July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

• The New York Mets host the Washington Nationals on 9/11. I wonder if there will be a hat controversy again? (Too soon?)

• The last day of the regular season is October 3. As has become customary, the final series for many teams is against a divsional opponent, as the league hopes to have drama on the very last day. Here are the intradivision closing series: Yankees-Red Sox (shocker, I know), Orioles-Rays, Indians-White Sox, Royals-Tigers, Mariners-Angels, A's-Rangers, Marlins-Mets, Phillies-Nationals, Cubs-Astros, Cardinals-Reds, Diamondbacks-Rockies, Dodgers-Giants.
