While Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard had hoped to return to the team in June, that won't happen, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters on Wednesday.
According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, Amaro was asked Wednesday if he believed Howard would be back by the end of June.
"I don't believe so," Amaro said. "I don't think so."
Then asked if the slugging first baseman could be back by the All-Star break, Amaro said, "I don't know."
Howard suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon in last year's National League Division Series loss to the Cardinals and then developed an infection in the area of his incision during spring training. That infection required another surgery.
Howard is currently running, hitting and fielding as part of his rehab work at the team's complex in Clearwater, Fla.
Second baseman Chase Utley is working out with the team, Amaro told Salsbury, but added there's no timetable for his rehab, either.
