DERRICK ROSE TEARS ACL AND WILL MEST REST OF THE PLAYOFFS
CBSsports.com- With a little over a minute left in Game 1 and the Bulls leading by 12 against the 76ers, Derrick Rose came down awkwardly on his left leg. He immediately crumpled to the floor, laying on his back holding his knee. He had to be helped off the floor.
The Chicago Bulls just released to the press that Rose tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the NBA postseason, dramatically shifting the balance of power in the Eastern Conference.
He jump-stopped on a hard drive to the basket and fell to the floor. There was no contact, just Rose's knee appearing to buckle slightly.
As he was helped to the locker room, Rose began to put more weight on his left leg, potentially a good sign. Still way too early to know, or speculate.
Immediately after the game, Rose was taken to a local hospital for an MRI on his knee.
According to CSN Chicago, Rose was "walking, albeit with a limp, in the Bulls' training room," following the game.
There were questions as to why Rose might've been on the floor, but Tom Thibodeau dismissed that to reporters.
“I don't work backwards like you guys,” Thibodeau said. “The score was going the other way. He's got to play.
“There's going to be injuries. A guy can get hurt in practice. He can get hurt in the first five minutes of the game. He can get hurt anytime and then you have to deal with it,” he continued. “Derrick has had a lot of injuries this year. It has been unfortunate. Whatever the circumstances are, we will deal with it.”
Via NBA.com, TNT's courtside cameras picked up Rose telling Bulls trainers, "I felt something pop." Which of course is not a good sign at all.
Rose of course has dealt with injuries all season battling ankle, foot and groin issues and appeared to finally be healthy again for the postseason.
The Bulls took Game 1 over the Sixers 103-91. Rose finished with 23 points on 23 shots, nine rebounds and nine assists. After a slow start, it appeared he was rounding back into his MVP-type form.
