With great remorse I want to let everyone here know that our dear friend MYBAY, Cal Harris has passed away.
Many of us know him from Freewinners and he has been a long time member of the forums thru the years. MYBAY was a diehard Laker fan, Yankee fan and one of the nicest guys you would ever want to have known.
He was so young. In the last few years he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease) and needless to say his quality of life slowly deteriorated. Many of you have even contributed to his cause over the years during the holidays. And for that I can tell you that he was extremely grateful, humbled and appreciative more than words can say. In the last year he still participated in contests but was unable to type himself. So he obviously was unable to post on the forum here at BangtheBook.
As soon as funeral arrangements are made I will pass them along if anyone wants to post a message on the Funeral Home bulletin board. He is being buried in Memphis, Tennessee where he lived and his family was.
My heart is sad that at such a young age we lose such a good person.
Rest in Peace Cal.
You will be missed.

:( Oh man, that's sad news. I remember mybay well. We talked a few times on the phone during the freewinners days, I remember tipping him for running our NFL picks contest. He was just the nicest guy. So sorry to hear that, I had no idea.
I must be gettin' old... I still think baseball is cool.
Sure is Cover. Cal has been in touch over the years. He played in our contests, free and post up. He had a Bookmaker account and we kept in touch. IN the past 2 years his health really deteriorated. His mom would send me and everyone his emails. It was a struggle. Especially having a son who I guess is about 6-7 years old now. He was such a great guy.
Oh the memories! Before he was ill and still in grads school we talked (via email) everyday during hoops! He was 100% a laker fan! He was just like family! I still have my copy of his wedding invitation as well as the announcement of his sons birth!
My dear friend you will be sorely missed by all the lives you touched & My heart and prayers go out to his loved ones.
He's the first person that unfortunately came to mind as soon as I saw this title thread and I could only hope to myself that it wasn't true. Cal was one of the originals from the freewinners forum days that always took part in intelligent sports conversation, participated to the fullest in contests, and was as solid as they came in his wagering amongst handicappers. Horrible news. One of the great guys from where it all first started. My sincere condolences and prayers to him and the family. He will be terribly missed. RIP Cal. It is a very sad day in the Volunteer state and here at BTB.
