Gyan set for UAE move with Al-Ain
Al-Ain have swooped to bring Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan to the United Arab Emirates on a season-long loan, both clubs have confirmed.
Gyan, 25, reportedly handed in a transfer request on deadline day amid interest from Turkish clubsTrabzonspor and Galatasaray, as well as Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, though a move failed to materialise.
But the Ghana international, who was the Wearsiders' record signing when he arrived for £13 million from Rennes last summer, will now follow in the footsteps of Black Stars legend Abedi Pele by moving to the UAE with Al-Ain.
"Anyone who has seen Asamoah play will know that he hasn't been himself in recent months," Sunderland boss Steve Bruce said. "This option suits all parties at the present time and the club is well-protected in the deal.
"Asamoah has three years remaining on his contract and of course my wish would be that he finds his spark again and we see him in red and white stripes next season in the form that first attracted us to him."
Bruce brought Nicklas Bendtner, Ji Dong-Won and Connor Wickham to Sunderland during the transfer window, and the Wearsiders' boss believes that trio, along with Fraizer Campbell, will be able to share the club's goalscoring burden this season.
