Betting impact of Peyton Manning's latest neck surgery By LARRY HARTSTEIN

Wynn Las Vegas sportsbook manager John Avello is glad he didn't release an early line on the Colts-Texans game. He opened it at Houston -8, as opposed to the near-pick'em it would have been with a healthy Peyton Manning.

But there's nothing Avello can do about the season total bettors who took the "under" on 10 wins for the Colts before Peyton Manning's status had clarified. Avello took down that bet five days ago.

"I wouldn't mind having under 10," Avello told Covers.com after it was revealed Manning had another neck surgery Thursday.

That procedure, Manning's third in 19 months, has put the ironman QB's entire season in jeopardy.

Avello also took down his AFC South odds, which had Indy as a 6/5 favorite. Other books did the same.

But sportsinteraction.com lists Houston as a -135 favorite to win the division; previously the Texans were +135. The formerly favored Colts are now a +225 underdog.

Avello won't be posting another season win total on the Colts. He opened that at 10 (under -135) and moved it to 10 (under -185) before pulling it.

If he were setting another win total, Avello said, he wouldn't go higher than 8.

"They've still got some good personnel, but it seems Kerry Collins is going to be the quarterback for the first 10 games at least," Avello said. "It's hard to say what Kerry Collins brings...He has to keep his mistakes to a minimum."

Avello said he doesn't have too much exposure on the win total because some bettors, believing Manning would be under center as usual, took the "over."

The Colts say they won't put Manning, 35, on season-ending injured reserve.

Pete Korner, founder of the Las Vegas-based Sports Club, also said he won't be releasing another Indy win total. The situation is too uncertain, he said.

Manning's streak of 227 consecutive games played, including playoffs, will end this Sunday when the Colts visit Houston.
