Cowboys release C Gurode

Irving, TX (Sports Network) - In an effort to clear up some cap space, the Dallas Cowboys have released center Andre Gurode.

Gurode's 2011 salary was about $5.5 million.

"We have met with the team and the mutual decision is to move on," Kennard McGuire, Gurode's agent, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Gurode was a late scratch Saturday night in Minnesota for the team's third preseason game. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones described the move as a "business decision."

Phil Costa, who is recovering from a PCL strain in his right knee, will likely become the full-time starter.

Dallas selected Gurode out of Colorado in the second round of the 2002 draft. He was the longest-tenured player on the Cowboys' roster.

Gurode moved to center full-time after splitting time at guard and center for his first four years. The 6-foot-4, 318-pounder made five straight Pro Bowls from 2006-10, but was recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery in July.
