Report: Former NBA player Crittenton wanted for murder

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton is reportedly facing a homicide charge.

Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Crittenton was connected in the shooting of Jullian Jones on August 19 as she was walking with two men down an Atlanta street. The shots were apparently fired from a black Chevrolet Tahoe.

The report indicates the incident may have been in response to Crittenton being robbed earlier this year.

Authorities do not have the suspect in custody.

Crittenton, 23, was the 19th overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Georgia Tech. He has not played in the NBA since the 2008-09 season, and was involved in the infamous gun altercation with Gilbert Arenas at Verizon Center in December 2009, when he was on the Wizards' roster but injured.

The fracas entailed Crittenton allegedly saying he would shoot his teammate, Arenas, in his surgically repaired left knee following a contentious card game. On December 21, 2009, Arenas placed guns on a chair next to Crittenton's locker with a note that said "pick one."

Crittenton then allegedly pulled out his own semi-automatic handgun in retaliation. He received probation after pleading guilty to the gun charge.

Arenas and Crittenton were both suspended by the NBA for the remainder of the season.

Crittenton was signed by the Charlotte Bobcats last year, but he was waived before playing for the club.

Former NBA player Crittenton arrested

Santa Ana, CA (Sports Network) - Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton was arrested at a Southern California airport and is facing a murder charge.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Crittenton was taken into custody at John Wayne Airport after checking in for a Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta.

The FBI said Crittenton, of Fayetteville, Georgia, is wanted by the Atlanta Police Department on murder charges stemming from the August 19 fatal shooting of 22-year-old Julian Jones.

The FBI said officers responding to a shooting found Jones with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where Jones, the mother of four children, was pronounced dead. Witnesses stated that a dark colored SUV vehicle drove by the location firing an assault type rifle.

According to the Journal-Constitution, Jones was walking with a group of people that included, according to police, the man Crittenton believed had robbed him of jewelry in April. Witnesses told police the shots were fired near Jones' home, according to the newspaper.
