Two Unit Plays (0-0)(even)
Three Unit Plays (0-0)(even)
Overall Record (2-1)(+0.75 units)
Lost my one and only play last night on TCU. I don’t mind losing games when it is a blowout and you know you lost early….they are easier to take, but when they came back and got my hopes up made it a little tougher. Oh well, still happy with my start. Got some I like for Saturday, so will bump my units up today and hope for the best.
S Florida +10½ vs Notre Dame (3 unit play)……………..AS ALWAYS Notre Dame gets way more respect than they deserve and the line is ALWAYS inflated and once again that is the case in this opener. I do really like coach Kelley, but he is not going to turn the Irish into a powerhouse in his second year. S Florida usually comes up big as dogs and there is no reason to think they won’t again this year. Admit it……..a Notre Dame would not shock you would it? Could happen, but I get the feeling S Florida outplays them most of the game but Notre Dame finds a way to win with a late field goal.
Northwestern +3½ vs Boston College (3 unit play)…………Let me start by saying I think the Big East is going to really have a down year this year. Even when they seem to be pretty good as a conference, everybody makes fun of them come bowl time. As a Pitt fan I don’t like that, but I really cannot put up much of an argument either. I truly believe the only thing in favor of Boston College on Saturday is home field, and that is not going to be enough. Northwestern over the past few years has developed an offense that is hard to stop. I think the wrong team is favored here. If I was smart I would just play the money line, but I won’t get greedy and just be happy if I can pick up a 3 unit win. Better team, from a better conference, getting points = $$$$$
Rice +24½ vs Texas (2 unit play)…………….Always scary going against Texas, but something is not right there. How did a team with as much talent as they had last year finish 5-7? They even lost games at home they never should have lost. There is no way they are going to be that bad again this year, but don’t look for a 11-1 season either. One thing we know about Rice is they can put points on the board. Rice is a team on the rise this year I think. Even their defense made improvements last year. It may take a while for this Texas team to come together and start resembling their old selves. Won’t happen in the opener. No they won’t lose, but they are going to have to outscore Rice to get the win. Lets call it Texas 44 Rice 34
Ball State +6 vs Indiana (2 unit play)…………Those pesky MAC teams. It seems like every year they pull an upset or two, mainly over those lower to mid lever Big 10 teams. Indy is definitely going to be in the bottom third of the division this year. Let me add that this game is at a neutral site in Indianapolis, so it is not at Ball State, but they key for me here is that it is not at Indiana either. Indy has always been a horrible ATS road team. They have no QB coming back and six starters on each side of the ball. Ball State does have their QB back along with 9 offensive starters and 7 on the other side. Ball State has beaten this team before, so they do have the confidence to do it and I think they will win this game. I long time ago before I wised up I would jump all over a big named team giving a nobody under a touchdown. Not now.
THE REST OF THESE ARE ONE UNIT PLAYS
Colorado +7 (-120) vs Hawaii………BOUGHT A ½ POINT. At first I was going to make this one of my best bets of the weekend, but I chickened out, so now I know it will be a winner. Just about every prediction that I have seen has Hawaii blowing them out. I think they Big 12 conference has always been under rated some. And don’t you get sick of hearing about what a distraction it is going to be for the other team to be in Hawaii? You know Hawaii and their QB will score their points. It might not be as many as you think as they only have three starters back on offense to help their QB. Hawaii’s runs defense has always been a sore spot for them and Colorado who loves to run the ball anyway will surely make that their game plan. I just have a gut feeling this game is much closer than everybody expects. Sometimes you just have to follow you gut feelings.
The rest of these plays are also one unit plays with no write-ups. They are strictly based on returning starters from last year and my gut feelings about them.
Akron +31½ vs Ohio State
Miami-Ohio +20 vs Missouri
New Mexico St +7 vs Ohio U
Pittsburgh -30½ vs Buffalo…………BECAUSE COACH DAVE IS NO LONGER THERE!!!!!
Good Luck Everybody!!
