-- RIP Dr Frank Jobe, who died this week at age 88. I'm thinking Dr Jobe should get in the baseball Hall of Fame, along with Dr James Andrews; how many athletes' careers did they save?

-- An iguana walked across the 18th green at Doral Friday; whats the rule if the iguana picks up a golf ball and walks off with it?

-- Golfer Jamie Donaldson hit a ball on the 8th hole with both his feet in the water, his pants rolled up to his knees. Don't see that on Tour much.

-- Dallas 103, Portland 98-- Mavericks (-2.5) made backers sweat for the cover in a game they once led 40-10 in the second quarter. 40-10 and they win by 5. Damn.

-- Baseball is odd; watching lefty Jonathan Sanchez pitch for the Cubs, as he tries to hang on to a major league job. Sanchez threw a no-hitter in the major leagues, but has never harnessed his talent, with a 39-58 career record.

-- John Calipari has created a monster at Kentucky, a program where there is a lot of player turnover every year and he has a roster full of NBA wanna-bes who don’t wanna-be in college very long. That gives Kentucky a younger team than most of its opponents, albeit often more talented, but its hard to cultivate any type of chemistry when you have new stars every year. A team made up of less talented, smarter, more mature players will often beat the Kentucky model of team. Just the way it is.

-- Two Dodger-Arizona games in Australia on March 22-23 will not have instant replay available. Why I’m not sure; they don’t have cellphones in Australia? Doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to orchestrate, but they’re not doing it.

-- Adrian Peterson wants the Vikings to sign Michael Vick as their starting QB; wonder what the reaction will be if that doesn’t happen. Now we know why Matt Cassel opted out of his Viking deal.

-- For what its worth, the SATs are going back to the 1,600 scoring scale, so this is where I explain to you what a farce the SATs are. Back in the day, the mid-70’s to be exact, I scored a 1,260 on my SAT and I took them with a 102 degree temperature and sick as a dog - the miserable human who proctored my exam wouldn’t let me take cough drops out of my pocket, once the test started. Whatever, I got lucky on the test since I did really well on the math part, I paid for it when they assigned me Advanced Calculus in college when I never took anything over Geometry in high school. So people thought I was some stellar student. Dont think so. I dropped out of community college in 1 month and wasted the next 10 years of my life betting the horses and gambling until I figured out what I wanted to do when I grew up.

The SAT is not an indicator of who will be a good student, and I’m living proof of it.

-- Good move by college football gurus, allowing the 15-yard targeting penalty to be overturned after the replay review. Last year’s rule was so inflexible, it just didn't make a lot of sense.

-- Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall has to be happy every time a TV guru bashes the Shockers’ schedule; you just know he’s pushing the “us against them” mentality and the “no respect” card. Truth is, Wichita was in the Final Four last year and they’re going to be there again this year. And I was there last year and will be there again this year.

-- We’ve said this before, but all of these college teams are extremely fragile in terms of depth/chemistry; look at how Syracuse/Wisconsin/Ohio State have had extended downturns. One injury, one key guy in a slump and things go sour. Lot of good players in the country, but 341 D-I teams give scholarships, so not many teams have real quality depth—who wants to sit on the bench? Teams are fragile; remember that as we go thru March.
