SOUTHERN UTAH? I WOULDN'T PLACE THEM IN DIVISION 4

Portland St -4 over Southern Utah:
One and twenty two. No folks that's not a misprint. The Thunderbirds (1-22 0-14) after winning their opener against Southwestern have not been triumphant since and hold the nation's longest losing streak. Tonight at Centrum Arena the Portland St Vikings (11-12 6-8) will look to halt a 4 game losing streak while extending Southern Utah's futility streak out of the Big Sky Conference.

Tim Douglas (13.1) has had a rough campaign in efficiency making just 38% of his field goal attempts. However in addition to being the Vikes' leading scorer he also leads the team with 3.7 assists while posting a physical presence penetrating to the basket as well as making an impact from beyond the arc. DaShaun Wiggins (12.8) averages nearly 6 rebounds per game and makes about 44% overall from the field. The Vikings front line is deep and balanced featuring Gary Winston and Andre Winston Jr. who have had some solid games.

The T-Birds average just 56 points per contest and haven't won a conference game in nearly a year. Through 23 games nobody has averaged in double figures. In a 75-65 loss last week to Idaho St, AJ Hess led the way with 14 points while Jaren Jeffrey and Race Parsen each added 12. SUU held a 1 point lead at halftime but the Bengals responded with an 11-0 spurt in the early part of the second half to put things out of reach.

Hitting the road could be the elixir Portland St needs to get back on the winning track while it's only a matter of time before the continuous carnage for Southern Utah finally comes to a merciful close. The Vikings may be next to last in the conference standings, but I'd hand pick 12 high school seniors to perhaps give the embarrassing Thunderbirds a run for their money. GL if you trail!

We'll take luck any way we can get it! Portland St was up 4 most of the way with about 1:25 left and fell behind by 1 thanks to consecutive fg's by Southern Utah with :54 left, only to catch fire down the stretch and win by 7. That lowers the Thunderbirds record to a futile 1-23 mark!
