New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks

The New Orleans Saints answered their critics on a Saturday night with a resounding road win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The win over the Eagles was the first road playoff victory in the history of the franchise for the Saints. It won’t get any easier this weekend as the team hits the road to take on the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC this year, partly due to the tremendous home field advantage. This was the same home field advantage that allowed the Seahawks to dominate the Saints in the regular season. Read the Full Preview Here

Saints at Seahawks minus-7.5: This was the only line to go up Saturday night as the Saints won as the NFC's No. 6 seed and automatically drew top-seeded Seattle (the AFC needed to wait for Sunday's No. 3 versus No. 6 matchup to determine their divisional playoff matchups). The Olympic offshore book (aka "the Greek" as its address is thegreek.com) opened the Seahawks minus-8.5 and the LVH countered with 7.5. On Saturday morning, the LVH went to 8.5 and then 9, but during the course of Sunday's betting it pretty much leveled off at a consensus of 8.5 (though on Sunday night the LVH dropped it back down to 8). This looks like it should waver right around 8 or 8.5. The over/under is a consensus 48 in Vegas, though some offshores are at 47.5 so it looks more likely to dip (keep an eye on the weather forecasts) than to go higher.

Seahawks receiver Percy Harvin was listed as a full participant in practice Wednesday on the official team injury report, increasing the likelihood that he will play in Saturday’s playoff game against the New Orleans Saints.

It’s the first time this season that Harvin has been listed as a full practice participant. The Seahawks didn’t have to list him before he played in the Minnesota game on Nov. 17 (the only game he has played this season) because he still was on injured reserve.

Rookie tight end Luke Willson, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the regular-season finale against St. Louis, also was a full participant in practice Wednesday.

The only players who did not practice were strong safety Kam Chancellor (hip) and linebacker K.J. Wright (foot surgery). Wright will not play Saturday, but there was no indication from coach Pete Carroll on Tuesday that Chancellor might miss the game.

The Seattle Seahawks are clear favorites now to reach the Super Bowl, and many experts see them as the favorite to win it.

But Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman said the team doesn’t look at themselves as favorites. They still see themselves as overachieving underdogs.

Sherman, widely viewed now as the best cornerback in the NFL, was a fifth-round draft choice.

Slot receiver Doug Baldwin, who caught 50 passes this season for 778 yards and five touchdowns, was an undrafted free agent out of Stanford.

Quarterback Russell Wilson wasn't drafted until the third round because he's only 5-foot-11.

“Our team is made to play with a chip on our shoulder, regardless of the notoriety we’re getting,” Sherman said. “You can’t change the chip, you can’t take it off. Once it gets on, it stays on, and a lot of our guys our like that. Our guys will always play with that edge, that fire and that hunger. It’s something that is embedded in all of us.”

Some people are saying the New Orleans Saints will be motivated to play better in Saturday's playoff game after losing to the Seahawks 34-7 on Dec. 2. Sherman said the Seahawks have motivation in remembering the 30-28 loss to Atlanta in the divisional round of the playoffs last season.

“We never want to have that feeling again,” Sherman said “We never want to feel that regret and anger and frustration, knowing we should have won that game. That’s the motivation for us in this game.”

Bad Weather In Seattle

It’s not going to snow or freeze, but the forecast for Saturday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks calls for gusty winds and lots of rain.

Basically, just the way the Seahawks like it at CenturyLink Field.

The temperature at kickoff is expected to be 47 degrees with a 90 percent chance of rain, and some of it could be heavy. Sustained winds are predicted to be between 20 and 25 mph, with 40-mph gusts possible.

The Seahawks, who have won 15 of their past 16 homes games, believe those types of conditions play into their hands with their power running game and aggressive defense, which allowed the fewest points in the NFL this season.
