What a college day yesterday. I sucked, happens every year on Rivalry day, but the ol Hitman just doesn't learn. Too much idle time on my hands to watch the games.............and I'm not an overwhelming "dog" player.
But, T day went nicely and I have a lotta , lotta great stuff to be thankful for. My best to you & your family members, buddy.

Spooky Express army crawling into Monday Random Thoughts.....

-- We've spent our lives talking about "Coach-Speak," and half our lives about athletes cheating. So why not co mbine the two? Jason Kidd of the Nets was fined $50,000 for intentionally spilling his drink when his team was out of timeouts. It gave them a chance to draw up a play. Then Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin got in the way of a Baltimore punt return. He claimed he was just watching the Jumbotron as he always does. He was not penalized at the time. Should I go into some moral rant how coaches set the tone for young people today? Nah. Just know that the two coaches, despite their subterfuge, both lost their games. :)

-- In the NBA, Anthony Davis of New Orleans breaks his hand, the Pelicans hand the last place Knicks their 9th straight loss anyway 103-99.

-- -- Giants 24, Redskins 17-- Washington led 14-0 early on, but lost fourth game in row; they're 2-4 at home, with wins 45-41/30-24 OT. Giants are 5-1 in last six games. Who's going to tell Daniel Snyder his lousy team doesn't have their first round draft pick (#2 right now) next spring? It seemed like the Twilight Zone last night. The Washington Redskins on their final drive made a first down only to find out it was third down. Huh? It seems the chain gang either mistakenly moved the chains, or was told to move them, even though a second down play fell short of a first down. Washington coach Mike Shanahan asked for a measurement and was told it wasn't necessary, it was a first down. So on third down, or was it first down, Washington threw an incompletion. And then on 4th down, or was it second down, the Redskins fumbled. Game over. Giants win 24-17. Can't wait for this stuff to happen in the playoffs.

-- Dolphins 23, Jets 3-- Geno Smith is quickly becoming more suspect than prospect; total yardage was 453-177 and Jets had only 78 passing yards, as the immortal Matt Simms (non-starter in college) played the second half. You have to give Miami coaches credit; they're 6-6 amidst incredible chaos.

-- Falcons 34, Bills 31 OT-- Ronde Barber is brutal on TV; Falcons had 3rd-and goal in red zone at 2:00 warning, trailing 31-24; Barber's analysis was that if Atlanta didn't make it on 3rd down, they should go for it on 4th down. Ya think??? Sometimes its just better to say nothing.

-- 49ers 23, Rams 13-- You cannot beat a good team on road with Clemens at QB, simple as that. he's not good, and the Rams' WRs, except for Austin, are still basically useless. Last seven 49ers wins are all by 10+ points. Jeff Fisher had a lousy game from a management standpoint, passing up an easy FG in a 23-6 game and trying a hideous fake punt inside his own 20.

-- Patriots 34, Texans 31-- Houston led 17-7 at half, lost for 10th time in a row. Patriots had zero penalties, second time this year they've done that; all season long, Miami in Week 2, Green Bay in Week 9 are only other teams to not have a penalty called against them.

-- Broncos 35, Chiefs 28-- Andy Reid has gotten a lot out of these Chiefs, but they're not as good as Denver, who basically have 1.5-game lead in their division. Broncos averaged 11.5 yards per pass attempt, had 403 yards thru the air, converted 8-14 on third down.

[B][FONT='5']Spooky Express stretching out balls Tuesday comments......

-- Steve Sarkisian inherited an 0-12 Washington program in 2009; Huskies went 34-29, 24-21 in Pac-12 play under the BYU grad/former USC assistant. Apparently that was enough to impress the Trojans, who hired Sarkisian as head coach Monday. Curious move. It is a tremendous kick in the teeth to leave a school for a conference rival; can only think of two times it has happened-- Tommy Tuberville, who bolted Ole Miss for Auburn, and Bruce Snyder, from Cal to Arizona State. It would be more understandable if Sarkisian was an alum, but he's not. USC-Washington games will be very interesting the next couple of years.

-- USC offered Ed Orgeron a raise to stay with the Trojans as an assistant, as one of the highest paying assistant coaches in college football, but he wasn't happy and quit. He really did a fine job as interim coach; guess he isn't that impressed with Sarkisian.

-- Browns’ WR Josh Gordon has 498 receiving yards in his last two games, with the forgettable Brandon Weeden throwing him passes; the leader for the Jets in receiving yards for the entire 12-game season is Jeremy Kerley, with 347. In 12 games. Speaking of the Jets, they’re the first team since the 2008 Browns to score 0 or 3 points in consecutive games.

-- Its pretty cool that college football’s national Coach of the Year is going to be a guy who was a high school coach for 16 years. Gus Malzahn will find that he’s raised expectations at Auburn to ridiculous levels, but what a season his team has had. Curious to see how it translates in his recruiting this year.

-- I’m convinced Thanksgiving weekend is busiest sports weekend of the year; so much going on. Rivalry Saturday in college football, 16-game NFL slate, lot of college basketball tournaments, as well as NBA/NHL. Just lot of stuff going on, tremendous amount of action.
