Breeders Cup Week.

This years Breeders Cup is going to be very competetive. This could be the best betting odds for the Championship Classic in a long time. There does not seem to be a heavy favorite; with a good crop of 3 years olds and some classy older horses this race should be anyones race to win. I will have my thoughts later in the week.
The most competitive race of the entire card has to be the DISTAFF. There are only 6 horses entered here because most trainers were not willing to race against this field. When you think your horse has a chance to beat the favorite, you may take a shot at it, but when you KNOW your horse is going up against 3 definate monsters, you pick another race to enter.
Princess of Salymar is a monster, Royal Delta is a beast and then you add Beholder who ran her last race in VERY impressive fashion at Santa Anita and you can see why this race is so competetive. You can also throw in Close Hatches who is not a shabby horse.
Angles to look at it - last year Lasix was not allowed on juvenile races, and in my opinion gave trainers who prefer not to use them an advantage (D. Lukas). This year ALL races will be allowed to use the anti-bleeding drug. Last year 3 winners in the 4 juvenile races were won by trainers who do not us the drug. It was an angle I was going to use again this year. Not now.
Trainers to look out for. Richard Mandella has been a monster in the Breeders Cup races. He has the most career victories and he has a few horse here that have a real good shot at winning. D. Lukas has a few horses in here as well including Will Take Charge in the Classic. This guy will have atleast 1 winner on the day. Pay attention to his entries.
Todd Pletcher is Todd Pletcher, but this is not New York and not Saratoga. This is the world coming to Santa Anita to win millions of dollars.
Local trainers on the Santa Anita track are Doug O'Niell, Bob Baffert, John Shirreffs and previously mentioned Richard Mandella. This track is their home track and they should be looked at on race day.
This is a very very tough day to pick winners, but a great day for exotic wagers. Last year the average $2.00 win bet paid $18.80 That will make any exotic wager a decent pay out. HIghest exacta last year was $252.00, lowest being $6.00.
The average all day was $68.00.
Picks 3's go all day long. There will be ROLL OVER pick 3's meaning you can bet a pick 3 on races 1-2-3, but also on 2-3-4, or 4-5-6. The average pick 3 last year was $898.00, Pick 4 was $1764.00.
This is the day to pick exotics and make some nice cash. Do not be afraid to take $2 and bet superfecta's or triples.
Santa Anita track is true dirt, much like Saratoga. It tends to be a fast track so pay attention to first few races and see how it is playing. This week it has been very fast with no rain in sight so it should be in great condition for the weekend.
I will have more as we get closer. There is so much to research about all these entries it takes hours to try and sort it out.
