Thursday's Dirty Dozen; Ranking the months of the year.......

First of all, there are no bad months; every day should/can be fun, but now I am no longer in the northeast, some months are more fun than others........make your own list. Am guessing it'll be a lot different than mine. And I honestly may not know what to expect here in Florida until it comes this year.

12) February—Shortest month of year; what do people born on February 29 do for birthdays three out of four years? If not for college basketball, this would be one dismal month.

11) January— Horrendous weather, easily the worst month of year when I was a kid. New Year's Day, NFL playoffs/college hoops and all the bowl games along with it being my birthday have made it tolerable in my adult life. Now here in Florida I can only imagine it just being a pretty awesome month.

10) May—Pretty much same as April and NHL/NBA playoffs are further along, and we get Memorial Day off, but the annual vacation makes April more fun than May. And I get any day off I want.

9) June—When you’re a kid, June is right at the top of the list, because you get out of school, but for adults who aren’t teachers, this can be slow month, albeit with good weather and lot of baseball.

8) April— Take a vacation to March Madness every March/April after the long college basketball season recently; NBA/NHL playoffs start, baseball season gets underway and the NFL Draft is always fun.

7) August—Same as June, except throw in preseason football and getting ready for the football season.

6) September—Football starts, pennant races wind up, weather is still good and I don’t have to go back to school. This was month #11 as a kid. But now the weather cools a bit here in Florida and may be one of the best and busiest for me in the future.

5) July—What is gonna be different from Jersey to Florida now. Is probably not much. May be the time I take vacation and head north or go on that cruise to Alaska.

4) October—Lot going on; baseball playoffs, football, hockey starts. Weather turns gorgeous here in Florida. Football season going strong and will be a time to take a trip somewhere. My youngest son has his birthday and my wedding anniversary. SO usually heading to see him in college as well.

3) November—Now this is going to be weird. It gets darker earlier but the weather is not getting down to 30 degrees so that should be a big change. Also with the holidays coming up may be strange not having a white christmas anymore. Always vacation in November, this year to Punta Cana. Thanksgiving weekend is now the #2 sports weekend of the year possibly.

2) March—Only two things save March from being hideous; college basketball tournaments and spring training baseball. They’re enough to keep me happy. Plus heading to Final Four every year now is going to be something special. My wife's birthday and my son's birthday. Really the end of a long sports season and posting on the forums from August to April.

1) December—Christmas, Chanukah, NFL regular season winding down, college bowl games, college basketball, NBA/NHL, New Year’s Eve, Christmas music in malls. They do that here in Florida I imagine. :)
There’s a lot to like about December, the best month of the year. And going to be awesome here in the south for the holidays.

Thursday's games

Central Florida won six of last seven games vs UAB, winning last three here by 7-14-6 points; Knights won LY's game 42-7. Underdogs are 4-3 vs spread in series games, 1-3 in C-USA conference games, 0-3 if spread is double digits. UCF lost three of last four games, scoring 17 or less in all four games- they're 0-3 SU on road this year, but covered six of last eight games as a road favorite. UAB is 0-6 but covered three of last four games; four of their six losses are by 17+ points.

Arizona already fired its coach, which normally dooms a season; they've won last four games vs UCLA, all by 7+ points, winning last three here by 14-7-38 points. Wildcats outrushed UCLA 473-136 last two times they met, but this year, Arizona lost last five games, giving up 43 ppg, so Stoops was canned. Bruins allowed 25+ points in their three wins, 38-49-45 in three losses. Pac-10 home favorites of less than 15 points are 2-5 vs spread in conference play.

Friday's games

Louisville lost last three games, scoring 13-7-16 points; they canned the offensive coordinator and head coach got new 7-year contract- guess its not his fault they stink. Rutgers won its last four games- their two road games were decided by total of 5 points. Last three Rutgers-Louisville games were all decided by 20+ points; Cardinals are 3-1 as series fave. Under is 4-0-1 in Louisville's lined games this season, 4-1 in Rutgers' last five games. Three of last five Rutgers games were decided by FG or less.

Syracuse (+13) upset West Virginia 19-14 LY, its first series win in last nine tries; Mountaineers won last four visits here, by 21-41-8-11 points, as favorites covered five of last seven series meetings here. Syracuse has already played three OT games this year; their last three games were all decided by exactly 3 points. Last four West Virginia games and four of five Syracuse games all went over the total. Mountaineers struggled in its only road games, winning 37-31 (+1) at Maryland after leading 27-10 at the half- they were outrushed 188-92, outgained Terrapins 480-477.

So tell me ole wise one.... What's going to give with LSU this week. WOW to be #1 in the nation we sure have a lot of off the field troubles. What is it about some of the athletes. College and Pro a like. I know the "trouble ones" are few and in the minority but the good one's don't make the headlines as often. Don't these people realize they are hurting the image of college and pro sports? I just don't get it. Oh yeah I suppose I do in a way, the kids let the hipe and all-star status go to their heads and the pros often let the money and the hipe and all-star status rule their stupid actions. BUT at what point to these people learn? You'd think they would learn from people in the past... but I suppose no one thinks they'll be the one to get caught. Little do they know most get caught in the long run.

Sorry didn't mean to get on my soapbox Spooky
