The Sunday night football game for week one of the National Football League regular season features two teams that are very familiar with one another. The New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys have one of the best rivalries in all of football and it comes as no surprise that the NFL wants to feature this big game on the biggest stage of the week, Sunday Night Football!
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys Odds
The football betting line for this game opened up with the Dallas Cowboys as (-3) point favorites. That line has not moved and is still locked in at a field goal at nearly all of the top rated offshore sportsbooks. This is an indication of home field advantage and just how close this game and this rivalry can be on any given Sunday.
For the Cowboys, there is only one goal and that is the Super Bowl. Owner Jerry Jones likes to attract media attention and is not afraid to set some lofty goals for this team. Tony Romo at quarterback is always under the microscope but is still expected to have a big year along with wide receiver Dez Bryant. Head coach Jason Garrett will no longer do the play calling as the Cowboys called in coach Bill Callahan to call the shots.
Callahan has informed the media that they will also look to establish a strong running game, something they have abandoned early in previous years. That is good news to running back DeMarco Murray, but he will have to remain healthy if he hopes to have an impact.
The Giants offense will be led by quarterback Eli Manning, but early in the season injuries have been a problem. Wide receiver Victor Cruz is banged up but will play in this game, and David Wilson will carry the load at running back since Andre Brown broke his leg in the preseason. Wilson has looked great in the preseason so the Giants are not worried.
The football betting trends indicate some interesting angles for this Sunday night match up. The Cowboys are 6-18 against the spread (ATS) in their last 24 home games, 4-13 ATS in their last 17 games on field turf and 2-10 ATS in their last 12 against the NFC East.
The Giants are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings and 4-0 ATS in the last four games in Dallas. This game could get ugly as these teams battle it out under the Sunday night lights.
