Texas Rangers best 'under' play in baseball

The Texas Rangers continue to lead the MLB 'under' standings as they are now owners of a 36-60-6 o/u record.

Texas and the New York Yankees played under the 7.5 closing total Thursday afternoon after the Yanks clipped the Rangers by a score of 2-0.

The Rangers have gone over the total just once in their previous 12 games and are 1-9-2 o/u in that span.

Any $100 bettor would be up $733.65 if they had wagered the 'under' in each of the Rangers' last 12 games.

The Cleveland Indians host the Rangers for a three-game weekend series which opens Friday. Texas' Martin Perez is scheduled to get the start against Cleveland's Corey Kluber.

Pittsburgh Pirates still top of the money standings

The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to exert their dominance in our money rankings. The Bucs currently sit atop the league up +25.12 units so far in 2013.

The Pirates have not finished on the plus side of the money standings since the 2003 season when they finished a pedestrian +0.85 units. They flirted with finishing on the plus side of things the past couple of seasons but have been cellar dwellers most seasons in between.

The Washington Nationals defeated the Pirates by a score of 9-7 Thursday. Pittsburgh currently sports a 60-40 record following the loss and are 2 games behind the N.L. Central leading St. Louis Cardinals.

The Miami Marlins host the Pirates for a three-game weekend series which opens Friday. Jeff Locke (9-2, 2.11 ERA) is slated to take the mound for the Pirates against Miami's Henderson Alvarez (0-1, 3.28).

MARC LAWRENCE

Play On: Tampa Bay w/Archer vs Sabathia

When Tampa Bay sends rookie Chris Archer to the mound against CC Sabathia and the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium in the opener of this three-game series Friday evening, Archer will look to match his 3-1 winning effort in this park a month ago against Ivan Nova.
Since that win he's racked up five more consecutive team starts wins, posting a sharp 1.62 ERA over the course of his 6-game win streak. On the other side, Sabathia has fallen on hard times, losing each of his last three team starts with a 5.61 ERA to show for his efforts. Back the better team, and the better in-form arm, here tonight. We recommend a 1-unit play on Tampa Bay.

Free MLB Baseball Prediction From Robert Ferringo

Take Oakland (-155) over L.A. Angels (8 p.m., Friday, July 26)

Reality has set in for Jerome Williams. The hard-throwing Angels righty got off to a very nice start to the season, stringing together five of six quality starts once he was forced into the starting rotation because of Angels injuries. But Williams had his confidence shot after he was relegated back to the bullpen, and he hasn't been the same guy since. He has been shelled for 24 runs in just 13 innings over his last four starts, with an absurd 15.23 ERA. Williams has given up at least four runs in six of his last eight starts as he has bounced between the rotation and the pen, and the A's were all over him last Sunday in Anaheim. Williams is facing the same team in back-to-back starts, and he isn't exactly the type of pitcher that is going to make a lot of adjustments; he kind of is what he is. The A's are countering with Bartolo Colon, and there aren't enough good things to say about! this guy. He threw a complete game shutout against the Angels on Sunday (against Williams), and he has an incredible 17 of 20 quality starts this year. Colon is on the short list of Cy Young candidates, and he has been dominating this year. I like the "over" in this game as well, as I think that both lineups will do well from seeing the same arms twice in a week. But at the end of the day I will go with the home team and the guy that I am convinced can get outs. Take the A's and the over.
