JETER RETURNS IN WIN BUT UNDERGOES MRI DUE TO TIGHTENED QUAD MUSCLE

Derek Jeter undergoes MRI on quad after return to Yankee lineup
By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

The good news is that Derek Jeter, in his 2013 Yankees debut on Thursday, legged out an infield single, scored a run and notched an RBI in an eventual 8-4 win over the Royals. The bad news is that Jeter's right quad muscle tightened up running out a ground ball in his third at-bat of the day. He was later pinch-hit for and, after the game, he underwent an MRI.

His status for Friday's game against the Twins won't be certain until the test results are known. Our own Danny Knobler passes along word that Jeter thinks there's a chance he can play on Friday; however, if he does it'll likely be as the DH.

Jeter, 39, suffered a fractured ankle in the 2012 ALCS against the Tigers. He's coming off a 2012 season in which he batted .316/.362/.429 and led the majors with 216 hits.
