Mark Teixeira to undergo season-ending surgery on wrist
by Dayn Perry cbssportsline.com

On Wednesday, the Yankees announced that first baseman Mark Teixeira had been advised to have surgery on his ailing right wrist, and soon thereafter Teixeira confirmed that he will indeed undergo the season-ending procedure.

CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman passes along word that Teixeira expects to have the surgery early next week, which would allow him to be fully healed in six months, barring the unforeseen. Provided he adheres to that timetable, Teixeira should be 100-percent well before spring training 2014.

Teixeira initially sustained the wrist injury in spring training but then aggravated it not long after his May 31 return to the lineup.

This season, the 33-year-old switch-hitter is batting .151/.270/.340 in 15 games. For his career, Teixeira owns an OPS+ of 130 to go with 341 home runs. He's signed through the 2016 season.

The loss of Teixeira means Lyle Overbay will continue on as the Yankees' regular first baseman. Overbay, 36, is batting .239/.282/.429 this season.
