So I have the thread posted in the college football forum but honestly really
not crazy about tonights game. Think it should be a low scoring game but its gonna be tough to really figure this game until after its over.

But we still have baseball. Going to post one of my plays along with
my big buddys game he likes.

Saturday's six-pack

-- Baylor 50, TCU 48-- The college football Game of the Year may have already been played. Bears led 47-23 in 4th quarter, needed FG with 1:04 left to win. Amazingly fun game to watch.

-- Jim Leyland won his 500th game as Detroit's manager Friday night; Justin Verlander has 104 of those 500, 21 just this season.

-- Brewers have now won their last seven games against Houston; they scored 45 runs in those seven games.

-- Derek Holland is 13-5 this season primarily because the Rangers are scoring 7.52 runs per game when Holland starts.

-- Matt Cain was the man for the Giants Friday, beating Arizona as the Giants moved to within five game of the first-place Diamondbacks.

-- Colts hired Jim Tressel as an instant replay consultant for game days. If Terrelle Pryor got suspended for the first five games, wouldn't it be fair for Tressel get a five-game suspension too?

Great game to watch and even a better call not to play it considering the early lead Baylor took and the incrediblecomeback by TCU only to fall short. Perhaps one of the highest scoring Div 1 games of the season and we haven't even absorbed a full Saturday. I expect this to be an instant classic in the weeks to come.

Milwaukee is showing they can certainly hit away from Miller Park especially considering coming off their drought and sweep at home against St. Louis. Couldn't be opposing a better team in Houston to all but wrap up the NL Central.

Saturday's Dirty Dozen: Clearing out a cluttered mind.......

12) Sad day for Met fans Thursday, with the $200M Einhorn/Wilpon deal falling apart. The one thing Met fans needed more than anything this season was to get rid of the two nitwits that own the team. Now that seems far less likely. The nitwit Wilpons just won't go away.

11) Can someone explain to me how a major league ballclub playing in a brand new stadium lost $51M in 2010, and is expected to lose more this year? How did these people get rich in the first place? Oh wait, forget I asked; the older Wilpon is pals with Bernie Madoff.

10) Keep in mind that the Giants trailed San Diego by 6.5 games on Labor Day 2010, and still won World Series. Lot of baseball left to play.

9) For all the replays I’ve seen of Kirk Gibson’s walk-off homer in Game 1 of the ’88 World Series, I’ve never seen a replay of the walk-off HR Mark McGwire hit off Jay Howell later in that same series. Go figure.

8) Curtis Granderson has scored 124 runs this season; the next highest guy has 97.

7) Oregon State football coach Mike Riley was a big Alabama fan growing up, in part because his uncle was Bama’s basketball coach while Joe Namath was the Crimson Tide’s QB. Riley might be the most underrated college coach in America, having also been a head coach in the CFL, WLAF and NFL.

6) Phil Mickelson is switching to a belly putter; I’m no golfer, but it just seems like a long putter would make it so much easier to practice a lot. So much less strain on the back.

5) Lefty reliever Mike Gonzalez finally straightened himself out, not allowing a run in his last 13 appearances, so of course the Orioles traded him to Texas. Why keep the good players?

4) Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley is the son of former Georgia coach Vince Dooley, which makes his mom Barbara quite the expert on SEC football. Seems like she appeared on a few talk shows last season, but Derek has been banned her from appearing on talk radio this season, saying it hurt the Vols’ recruiting. Not sure that would’ve worked in my family.

3) Milwaukee Brewers are 12-0 at home when Zach Greinke starts; you wonder if they’ll factor that statistic in when they make their pitching rotation for the playoffs.

2) Houston Texans have never made the playoffs, but they are 5-0 against Miami, with four of the five wins by 3 or less points. Texans have never had a better chance to make the playoffs, with Peyton Manning’s neck injury making the AFC South appear to be a wide-open race.

1) NFL teams have to cut down from 80 to 53 players by Saturday night, so multiply 27 by 32; 864 players will be unemployed on Sunday morning. Its hard to have a long career in pro football.

Getting awfully late in the season, but many are saying the Giants need to sweep this series with Arizona or their season is over. That might be pushing it a bit but no question they need to at worst split these remaining two. They have a good chance to win this evening with the freak on the mound, but he's got a tough opponent against Kennedy. Should be interesting.

MLB's not risking ruining their reputation. Far less are they going to how the HGH hitting a game winner versus a now successful manager who was barely gimping on one leg rounding the bases after that dramatic HR.

Sunday's six-pack

-- Anyone notice that Ian Kennedy is 18-4 for first place Arizona?

-- Nationals' pitcher Tom Milone is apparently the 100th USC alum to play in the major leagues, most of any college program.

-- Kansas City Chiefs' coach Todd Haley was a college golfer, but didn't play college football. He golfed at both Florida and Miami.

-- USC didn't score in the second half, was outrushed 111-64 in a 19-17 home win over Minnesota that wasn't very impressive.

-- Troubled senior QB Stephen Garcia, the John Daly of the SEC, came off the bench with South Carolina down 17-0 and led the Gamecocks to a 56-37 win over gritty East Carolina. Would've been a bad loss.

-- Speaking of which, Oregon State and Duke both lost to I-AA teams Saturday. Kids in Durham want to know when basketball starts.

Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.......

13) By my count, there were 38 games this weekend with a I-A football team playing a I-AA (lower division) opponent. In my opinion, no way should this ever happen- take those 38 teams, make up 19 games and go play, I-A vs I-A. Teams are afraid to lose games now, because the way the system is penalizes teams that play harder schedules.

12) In my opinion, teams like Oregon State/Duke who lose to foes from lower levels should immediately be ineligible for a bowl that season, to discourage these mostly ridiculous games from being played. Fans get charged good $$$ to watch Penn State-Indiana State, NC State-Liberty?

11) A few teams scored in last 2:00 to avoid being lumped in with both Duke and the Beavers; Wyoming-Iowa State-UTEP-Kansas State all had near misses vs inferior opponents. Washington beat Eastern Washington 30-27- thr Eagles outgained them by 154 yards.

What exactly did Cincinnati get out of beating Austin Peay 72-10? Were they tested? Did they learn a lot? No and no.

10) They drew 87,711 at Jerry World for Oregon-LSU, so teams made a ton of money, ESPN made money, Jerry Jones made some cash, but if one of the players got slipped $100 by a booster, the world would end.

9) Purdue paid Middle Tennessee, a Sun Belt team, $850,000; Utah State of the WAC got $950,000 to go to Auburn; problem is, no one told these teams that once they get the check, they're expected to lose. Utah State led 38-28 at Auburn with 3:38 left; would've big biggest win in school's history, but they couldn't cover an onside kick, suffering a bitter defeat, 42-38. Purdue has an excuse; its top two QBs are already hurt.

8) If Baylor's Robert Griffin III played at Notre Dame, he'd already be on the cover of cereal boxes and would be a cinch for the Heisman Trophy, which is symbolic of which Sports Information office has the most cash. Griffin is an amazing talent; he needs more recognition.

7) Former Rams' LB Mike Jones, who made the greatest tackle in history of the football, preserving the Rams' win in Super Bowl XXXIV, got his first win as a college head coach when his Lincoln Blue Tigers beat Avila 35-3 Saturday in Jefferson City. Jones was a high school coach for six years and then an assistant at Southern for a year before becoming a head college coach for the first time. We wish him well.

6) The paint used to paint the Oregon Ducks' green helmets cost $2,400 a gallon. This is living proof that you can find out just about anything you want if you know how to surf around the Internet. Most everything is already out there. Just have to know where to look for it.

5) Oakland Raiders cut backup QB Trent Edwards, keeping the hideous Kyle Boller ahead of him as the #2 QB while Terrelle Pryor re-learns the entire sport. Edwards was once the starter for the Bills.

4) South Florida went to South Bend, got five takeaways (three in the red zone) and upset the Irish 23-20 in a game delayed twice by storms. Skip Holtz has now covered 18 of his last 25 as a road underdog.

3) On July 18 they opened a casino ten miles outside Chicago; so far, it has taken in over $17.4M. Pretty soon, politicians are going to realize that sports betting is a goldmine ready to be found and sports betting will be legal.

2) Milwaukee catcher George Kottaras hit for the cycle in Houston as the Brew Crew once again whacked the Astros around. Kottaras becomes the second catcher since 1980 (Bengie Molina) to hit for a cycle on the road.

1) Mets led Washington 7-6 in ninth inning Saturday night, but Nats had men on second/third one out, with Bernadina up and Zimmerman out on deck. What did the Mets do? They walked Bernadina and watched as the powerful Zimmerman broke his bat and dropped a blooper into right to win the game. I repeat, they walked Bernadina to get to Zimmerman.

This is the same Bernadina who spent August in the minor leagues.
