Spooky Express Saturday Bear vs. Monkey and the Bear won and other random thoughts...... -- Only in China do they run a bicycle race with a Bear and a monkey and it ends with the Bear eating the monkey. Unbelievable. -- Texas Rangers drafted Seahawks QB Russell Wilson in Rule 5 minor league draft Thursday; Seahawks can’t be real happy about that. Wonder if they’ll have anything to say if he goes to Rangers’ spring training and puts a uniform on, works out? I wouldn’t want my QB playing another sport. -- When Arkansas State hires its new football coach, that’ll be five head coaches in five years, not counting interim coaches for the bowl games they’ve been in. If I’m the AD of that school, I’m tempted to put a hefty buy-out in the next coach’s contract, which gets reduced with every year he stays at ASU. Interesting that ASU keeps winning, but the people in Jonesboro can’t be real happy with whats gone on there. -- Parking for the Super Bowl at Swamp Stadium is $150. Just to park. No tailgating either. -- I’d be curious to know how Brad Stevens is enjoying coaching the Celtics; is it more/less enjoyable than college, how he feels about dealing with the press, etc. We know the money is better in the NBA and there is very little recruiting (except for during free agency, but the GM probably does more of that). No way of finding out, but would be interesting to know. -- Very unusual that Kansas Jayhawks are going 28 days without a home basketball game; you think Duke would ever do that? Jayhawks challenge themselves on road, which is why they get better late in seasons. Not lot of bigtime teams go four weeks without a home game. -- NHL has surprising amount of stuff that is better than other sports: the best playoffs, by far, the best instant replay system, and the shootout is a surprisingly fun way to eliminate tie games. Wish they’d eliminate fighting, but guess that ain’t gonna happen. -- Wind chill in Green Bay Wednesday morning was around 40 below; I know the weather in New York and New Jersey can get dicey, but its seldom that bad. Why the hell does anyone live there? I guess that is why I moved to Florida. -- Check out more news and todays picks at Spooky Express website. http://spookyexpress.com/sports-betting-news/

ITS ALMOST THAT TIME!!!!!! BOWLING FOR DOLLARS FOR 2013/2014! SPOOKY EXPRESS AND BOWL SEASON Many of you know I started posting my bowl game selections almost 15 years ago and that is how it all began at the forums. Never have had a losing bowl season since 1977 and not about to start now. Record speaks for itself. Have had some unbelievable outstanding seasons and a few average years but always have showed a profit. This is the only time I truly crunch numbers and play more with the numbers than my head. Will start posting some opinions in the next few weeks but wanted to get started on all the threads since there is so much work involved. I am just going to make 1 thread for the analysis, write ups, thoughts for each of the games that go along with the rankings and another thread for my game time updates, selections and wagers. These will once again be MY PLAYS and my opinion. I really dont care if you follow or not. Not looking to debate my selections. The totals (Over/Unders) will be posted much closer to game time since weather and other developments effect the game and they are only an opinion. I will post my power ratings, my dog plays and some money line plays if you care. We had over 32,000 views last year on this thread and over 65,000 views going back to 2012 so Im hoping we can top that this year. Happy Holidays and best of luck. -------------------------------------------------------------- Please stop by and LIKE our facebook page at www.facebook.com/spookyexpress Please stop by our website and check out more previews and daily selections at www.spookyexpress.com

Obviously the Best bets will not change dramatically. Also will play MONEY LINE Parlays with some teams that are favored to win but not cover by much. You are not going to get a selection for every game, but using some consistency and going with what YOU believe in, will bring home the $$$.

Wednesday's six-pack -- ESPN.com reports that Marco Scutaro swung/missed only 62 times in 736 PA this season; Josh Hamilton /missed 65 times in his last 63 PA. -- Bears already have 22 takeaways in six games, are +13 in turnovers; they’re on pace for a +35 season, which would be a record, I think. -- AFC North teams are just 4-13 vs spread in non-divisional games. -- Is it me, or is it weird that Auburn alum Cam Newton’s QB coach at Carolina is former Alabama coach Mike Shula? Seems like they could find someone who would be a better fit. -- Over last 10+ years, Oakland Raiders are 16-32-2 vs spread in games where number was 3 or less points, in other words, highly competitive games. That’s really bad. -- Ozzie Guillen/Bobby Valentine both went 69-92 this year, in their first year at their new job; neither will get a second year, as Guillen was canned by the Marlins Tuesday. Miami goes through lot of managers.

Kicking off another week and bounced back nicely last week. Coming off a couple winning weeks in CFB and had a nice week iwith the NFL. Tuesday's six-pack -- Matt Barkley went 0-4 vs Stanford; Peyton Manning went 0-4 against Florida. His career turned out pretty well. -- 11,722 loyalists saw the Rays lose to Aaron Cook at the Trop Monday night; the Tampa Bay bandwagon has officially disbanded. -- Bill Belichick is 53-34 vs spread in his career in game after a loss. -- American high school kids rank 32nd in the world in Math skills. Bet you we're near the top in video games, though!!!! -- Eureka College QB Sam Durley threw for 736 yards and five TDs in his first game this year, but has struggled the last two games, throwing for a total of 467 yards and two TDs in splitting those two games. Could be ol' Knox College doesn't have a very good defense. -- As far as Presidential TV commercials go, I want to hear from the two candidates. No one else. Not Bill Clinton, not Clint Eastwood. Just the two candidates we're choosing between. Its not a lot to ask.

2012 COLLEGE FOOTBALL ANALYSIS Thursday's game Underdogs covered four of last five Pitt-Cincinnati games, with visitor winning four of the five; Pitt won two of last three visits here, but they lost 31-17 last week to I-AA Youngstown State, giving up 204 rushing yards, not a good start to the Paul Chryst era. Pitt covered 14 of its last 17 games coming off a loss. Since 2007, Pitt is 10-1-2 vs spread as a road underdog. Cincinnati is 7-10 as a home favorite last three years; this is its season opener. Bearcats lost 3 starters on OL, have a mobile QB who has played some WR. Pitt has a senior QB who has made 27 starts for three different head coaches. Panthers have 9 starters back on offense, 5 on defense; Cincy has only 4 back on offense, but 7 on defense. Friday's game Utah State lost its last 12 games to Utah, with road team covered five in a row in series; Utes won their last six visits to Logan, winning last three by combined score of 154-16. Utah has a junior QB with 20 career starts and three starters back on OL (9 back on offense, 7 on defense)- they've got rivalry game with BYU on deck next week. Utes are 12-10 as away favorites since 2006. Aggies have 6 starters back on both sides of ball; they're 2-3 as home dogs under Anderson. Both teams had ridiculously easy tuneup wins over I-AA clubs last week. Saturday's games Top games Penn State blew 14-3 halftime lead last week, lost at home to Ohio U in first game of O'Brien era; they're now just 2-13 vs spread in non-league games since '09. Virginia is 5-7-1 vs spread in last 13 games as favorite at home- they've got junior QB with 14 starts, and seven starters back on offense, three on OL. State was -3 in turnovers last week, passed ball 48 times, ran it only 22 times for 97 yards, and allowed Ohio to convert 13 of 21 third down plays. Game opened Virginia -5, was bet up to -10. Central Florida has 8 starters back on offense but soph QB who made his first start last week, in 56-14 rout of hapless Akron; UCF was 14-19 passing for 180 yards, also had 206 rushing yards, so good balance, but now they're going way up in class, visiting Buckeye squad that ran ball for 294 yards last week and scored 56 points, after scoreless first 15:00. OSU also has soph QB, but he's made 11 starts; State covered 15 of its last 21 tries as a home favorite. Since '08, UCF is 10-7 outside C-USA. Favorites covered last two UNC-Wake Forest games, after dogs covered four of previous five; Tar Heels lost two of last three visits here, as three of last four played here were decided by 21+ points. Wake struggled to beat I-AA Liberty 20-17 last week, outgained by 70 yards, running ball for less than 100 yards. Carolina was up 49-0 at half, gained 524 yards in 62-0 win over I-AA Elon. Since 2006, UNC is 4-7 vs spread as a road favorite. Wake Forest is 14-6 as home underdog since '04. First SEC game for Missouri is hot ticket in Columbia; Mizzou has six starters back on both sides of ball, only two starters back on OL and QB with 14 career starts. Since '04, Mizzou is 3-4 as a home dog; they're 6-3 as underdog overall last two years. Georgia ran ball for 227 yards, passed for 258 in home win over Buffalo last week; they're 5-2 as road favorites since '09. Dawgs have 6 starters back on offense, 2 on OL, 9 on defense; QB Murray has made 28 career starts. Kansas State (+13) pulled 28-24 upset at Miami LY, running ball for 265 yards; Wildcats are 4-6 as home favorites last four years- they've got 8 starters back on offense, 2 on OL, a senior QB with 16 starts, 6 starters back on defense. K-State was only up 9-6 at half vs Missouri State in its opener, but they pulled away in second half. Miami gave up 442 passing yards last week in 41-32 conference win at BC (led 21-20 at half). 'canes are 9-7 as underdogs last five years; they lost 7 starters on offense. Notre Dame won six of last seven games with Purdue, winning last four by average score of 31-16; Boilermakers lost six of last seven visits here, losing last three by average score of 33-18. Irish were overseas last week, travel this early in season has to be draining, especially with Michigan St game on deck, much higher profile game. Notre Dame is 15-28-2 as home favorite, since 2003. Boilers are 7-10 as road dog last four years; they get senior QB Ter Bush back from suspension for this. Wisconsin (-20.5) crushed Oregon State 35-0 at home LY, outrushing the Beavers 208-23, but since '07, Wisky is just 6-9-1 vs spread if favored on foreign soil. Badgers have new QB in Maryland transfer O'Brien, who had 219 passing yards in 26-21 win over I-AA Northern Iowa (was 13-0 at half) last week. Oregon State's opener vs Nicholls State was ppd due to the hurricane in Louisiana; Beavers have 7 starters back on offense, 2 on OL, a soph QB with 10 starts already and 8 starters back on defense. Underdogs covered eight of last 11 Iowa State-Iowa games, with Iowa winning three of last four. Cyclones lost last four visits here by average score of 24-10. State has 7 starters back on offense, 3 on OL, soph QB with 7 starts and 5 starters back on defense- they beat Tulsa 35-23 last week at home, moving chains 28 times. Hawkeyes were lucky Northern Illinois doesn't have a QB who can pass, or they would've lost last week in Chicago; Iowa is 7-4 as a home favorite the last couple seasons. LSU is 16-27-1 vs spread as a home favorite under Miles; they went to Seattle in '09 and held off Washington 31-23 (-17) playing against Titans' QB Jake Locker. Bayou Bengals have wealth of talent, with 4 starters back on OL, a more talented QB this year and 6 starters back on defense, Washington lost its bowl game 67-56 LY, so they changed DCs and last week held San Diego State to 128 passing yards in 21-12 win. Huskies are 7-15 as road underdogs since '07, 10-12 as dogs under Sarkisian. Auburn won 10 of last 11 games with Mississippi State, winning five in row here, last two by unlikely 17-14/3-2 scores; favorites covered six of their last seven visits to Starkville. Since '08, Auburn is just 5-10 against spread coming off a loss; they've covered three of last 12 as road dogs, 5 of last 18 overall on road. Miss State is 5-3 vs spread in last eight games as home favorite. Auburn gave up 320 rushing yards in loss to Clemson last week. Miss State had two defensive scores against a I-AA team. First SEC game for Texas A&M team that has new coach, new QB and had its first game ppd last week, because of a hurricane. Aggies have four starters back on OL, 7 on offense, 6 on defense. Since '04, they're 20-15 as home favorites. Florida had 7 starters back on offense, 10 on defense but they're 0-6 vs spread as underdogs over last two seasons. Gators had 365-327 edge in yardage over Bowling Green last week, led just 14-7 at half, finally won 27-14 (-29). Soph Driskill has emerged as starting QB. UCLA had 343 rushing yards, 303 passing in 49-24 win at Rice in their opener, but they're up in class here, facing Nebraska squad that had 632 yards in 49-20 win over Southern Miss last week. Bruins are 5-3 as dogs at home last two years; they've got 7 starters back on offense, 9 more on defense, but they started five freshmen on offense at Rice. Cornhuskers are 9-4-1 as road favorites under Pelini; they've got 7 starters back on both sides of ball, and junior QB (Martinez) with 25 career starts. Arizona State went to Illinois LY and outgained Illini by 122 yards, but lost 17-14 (+2); now teams meet again in desert, with both sides having a new HC. Illini QB Scheelhaase has banged up ankle, is a ??; they're 4-9 vs spread in last 13 road games. Illini has 7 starters back on both sides of ball. ASU lost 7 starters in both sides of ball; they've got new coach, new QB, three new starters on OL; they're 29-21 vs spread at home since '04. Wednesday's LIst of 13: Nobody asked me, but........... 13) Last time the Red Sox started a road trip 0-7 was back in 1960, when I was less than a year old, but had more hair than I do now. 12) One lucky soul put $3,000 on 36-point underdog Texas State to win SU at Houston last week; when the Bobcats pulled the monumental upset, the guy had himself a ticket worth $105,000. He didn’t even have to sweat much; State led 27-10 at the half. 11) What is Savannah State thinking about? Football team lost 84-0 at Oklahoma State last week (but cashed a check for $385,000); this week, its Florida State in Tallahassee, which could be a similar result, although the paycheck figures to be bigger, too. 10) Final attendance results for the Saratoga thoroughbred meet shows attendance up an average of 173 fans a day, with handle up 3.3%. One big factor in the track’s factor was the near-perfect weather this summer. 9) UCLA started five freshmen on offense at Rice last week; its usually a bad sign when you’re starting freshmen in bigtime college football, but the returning players haven’t done much in Westwood, so the young kids get a shot. 8) Speaking of UCLA, Bruin basketball fans are holding their breath the NCAA makes freshman hoop standouts Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson eligible; school doesn’t start at UCLA until September 27. Practice starts October 12. 7) Houston Astros are first team since 1916 to go 8-47 in any 55-game stretch of a season. They just don’t have many good players. 6) I usually like watching Pawn Stars on History Channel, but now they have Rick’s son Corey doing more on camera, and he’s not likeable. He comes off as a big, dumb guy with a wise mouth, so I’d rather not have him lecturing on the history of stuff that gets brought into the shop. Case in point: on one episode, George Stephanopolous came into the shop; Corey and Chumlee had no idea, as in zero, who he is. Brilliant!!!! 5) Xavier booted their best returning basketball player out of school for an off-campus incident, even though the authorities never pressed charges; Dez Wells winds up at Maryland playing for Mark Turgeon. Hope he takes advantage of his second chance. 4) Quietly, the Royals are playing better, especially at home; they’ve won eight of Bruce Chen’s last nine home starts. 3) By all means, keep wheeling Raul Ibanez out there. Guy is 2 for his last 33, can't play the outfield worth a damn, while Ichiro Suzuki sits on the bench. Pretty lame lineup for a team with a $200M payroll. 2) Did you see the clip of the kid on Kent State running the wrong way with a muffed punt last week? If not, you have to go to Youtube and find it; he is sprinting down the sideline, towards the wrong goal line, and three guys on the other team are desperately chasing him, oblivious to fact that he’s running the wrong way. Total chaos when the play ends. Towson State coaches are yelling at the kid who made the tackle, thinking it cost them two points, when in reality, its against the rules to advance a muffed punt, even if you’re advancing it the wrong way. Been a long time since that happened. 1) You think you had a bad weekend? Boxer Floyd Mayweather bet $3M on Michigan Saturday night. That’s million with an M. That’s also a very rough day. What an Idiot!

Wanted to wish Bobalou and everyone in the Hurricane zone a safe and quick recovery. Dealing with my dad who had a stroke so apologize for my lack of posting. But will get it started slowly. Have a great, safe and awesome Labor Day Holiday weekend BTB guys and gals. ======================== Friday's List of 13: Things I'm looking for this weekend........ 13) College football takes center stage this weekend; top matchup is probably Michigan-Alabama at Jerry World in Dallas Saturday night. 12) NC State has a senior QB (Glennon); Tennessee has a quality QB (Bray) and a monkey on its back, as coach Dickey is under pressure for his Vols to have a better season this year, or else. Interesting neutral field opener Friday night. 11) Kellen Moore went 50-3 as Boise State’s QB, now he’s struggling to adjust to the NFL game with the Lions. Boise is opening at Michigan State, with both sides breaking in new signal callers. Broncos have a recent history of winning as underdogs. 10) Clemson-Auburn has been a good series last couple years. Auburn struggled LY after Cam Newton graduated and Russell Wilson chose Wisconsin over The Plains, so curious to see if they’ve come up with a decent QB. Clemson brought in a new DC; we’ll see if its helped. 9) I’m not a morning person, so not sure how much of 9am Notre Dame-Navy game I’m going to see. Navy had had the edge in this series last few years. Game is being played in Ireland, which is why the early kickoff. 8) Penn State starts a new era Saturday, hosting Ohio U; game opened at Penn State -15 back in the spring-- they were -6 last time I looked. 7) Florida International was a home favorite over Duke LY, but blew a 4th quarter lead and lost 31-26; their 7-6/8-5 seasons the last two years are first winning seasons in FIU history. Panthers are visiting Duke this week. 6) FOX has Gus Johnson calling its Game of the Week, so the mute button could be in order; this week’s game is Hawai’i-USC, as Norm Chow makes his debut as a head coach. For some reason, FOX hired Erin Andrews to work its pregame show; I would’ve gone for ESPN’s Jenn Brown instead. Think she’s smarter and has more personality to carry a show like that. 5) Miami-Boston College is an interesting league game for the first weekend. BC won at Miami LY as a 13-point underdog. 4) Troy-UAB split a pair of one-point decisions the last two years; Trojans had their worst season under long-time coach Blackeney LY (3-9); they’ve lost three of last four visits to UAB, with two of three losses by a single point. 3) Underdogs covered five of last six Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech games; why would any receiver go to GT? All you’re going to do there is block for four years. 2) San Diego Padres are 17-10 this month, with Chase Headley driving in 30 runs; if they have a good September, you think they have momentum heading into 2013? 1) Actor Terry Kiser from Weekend at Bernie’s is throwing out the first ball at the Red Sox-A’s game Saturday. The A’s have adopted “The Bernie” as kind of a celebratory dance and its actually gotten to this point. Kind of cool they’re having fun during a pennant race. Somehow Kiser made three movies as Bernie, playing a dead guy for 2.5 of them.

With much sadness and sympathy, our dear friend JimmytheGreek lost his father tonight. I do not know much of the details but wanted to make everyone aware here at BangtheBook and throughout the forum world that Mike's father passed away tonight. Mike has been a mainstay on the forums since the late 1990's and without a doubt has created a niche for himself that may never be duplicated. More than that he has been a friend since that time as we both grew up on the forums together. I want to pass along my heartfelt condelences, thoughts and prayers to the Mignone family. You never know what to say at a time like this. But all you have to do is call out my name my friend and I will be there. God Bless and know dad is in a better place and will always be there for you in spirit.

Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a suprisingly fun weekend...... 13) Kyle Stanley earned $648,000 Sunday, but will probably remember it as one of the worst days of his life. Leading by three shots on the 18th hole, Stanley triple-bogeyed 18, then lost in a playoff in an unthinkable collapse, losing to Brandt Snedeker in a playoff. Trainwrecks are hard to turn away from, and this one was a classic. 12) David Mathis finished 125th on the PGA Money List LY, with his earnings of $715,404.25, so Stanley is just about assured of keeping his card for next year, but this would've been his first win, gotten him into the Masters and Kapalua next January and guaranteeing his card thru 2014, not to mention the extra $432,000 that Snedeker got for winning. 11) CBS stayed with the tournament until 7pm, when it was switched to the Golf Channel so 60 Minutes could start on time. Stuff like that never happened when Eldrick Woods plays in a tournament........ 10).......speaking of which, that thud you heard around 7am Sunday was the heart of golf TV executives hitting the floor when Woods lost to the immortal Robert Rock in Abu Dhabi. This was supposed to be the week that Woods won a real tournament, declared himself back to the old Tiger and got golf back into mainstream sports' front page, when people who don't normally follow golf follow Woods. Not so fast, as Woods lost a head-to-head match with one of the few golfers who doesn't wear a hat. Good for Rock, bad for golf. 9) One question about Rock; why doesn't he wear a hat? Golfers make a small fortune as human billboards; certainly someone has offered him lot of cash to wear their hat, especially playing in same foursome as Woods. He'll be in the Ryder Cup; wonder if he'll be wearing hats by then. 8) Then there was the tennis match from Australia that started around 3:45am here in New York and ended five hours and 53 minutes later, one of the greatest sporting events you'll ever see. Djokovic-Nadal was just a treat to watch, two great athletes competing at the highest level, with an extreme level of mental toughness on both sides. Too bad they couldn't have just split the prize money and played for the trophy; they both deserved to win. Bad for Nadal, good for tennis. 7) One complaint about the Golf Channel's coverage from Abu Dhabi; they put the Golf Channel logo in the lower right hand part of the screen, right where the players' scores were often shown, so lot of the time, you couldn't see the players' scores. Upper right would've been a lot better, but then again, no one asked me. 6) When I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to watch the Three Stooges- they poked each other in the eyes, they hit each other with tools, they slapped each other in the head. Wonder what my late mom would've thought about the X Games, where guys do flips on snowmobiles? I'm guessing the Stooges would've seemed tame by comparison. 5) Is Blake Ahearn the greatest free throw shooter ever? He set all-time college record at Missouri State, and now has made 106 foul shots in row playing for in the NDBL, where he is leading the league in scoring. Why isn't he in the NBA? The Knicks couldn't use him? Detroit? Washington? 4) Referees handed Syracuse their 63-61 win over West Virginia Saturday, but fact remains, they're screwed unless Fab Melo gets eligible again- they got outrebounded 41-20 by the Mountaineers, an astounding statistic. 3) Pretty cool seeing Graeme McDowell shoot a hole-in-one on the 12th hole at Abu Dhabi; over the last seven holes, he was -5, after being -6 for the tournament's first 65 holes. 2) European Tour is in Qatar next week, Dubai (no relation to Abu Dhabi) the week after that. I need to buy myself a damn globe. 1) So Eldrick Woods has now led 64 tournaments after three rounds, and won 55 of them; the big question is, will he ever win again? And the other question of the weekend is, after Sunday, will Kyle Stanley ever win?
