NYJ +8 over Green Bay: Gang green may have been lucky to hold on last week against the silver and black last week, however it's going to take a more complete performance to pull off the upset at Lambeau. Meanwhile the Pack were completely outplayed on both sides of the ball falling to he defending Super Bowl Champs by nearly 3 TD's on opening night. It's the 3rd straight year Green Bay (0-1) has lost their first game. The Jets (1-0) held Oakland to just 25 rushing yards last week, but had to overcome 11 penalties and recover an onside kick before they could start celebrating. Geno Smith (23/28 2211 TD 1 INT) completed better than 82% of his passes in week 1, third in franchise history for a single game. However, the Jets must cash in more efficiently on their re zone opportunities, scoring just once in 4 tries including a lost fumble by Smith at the goal line. Gang green did have a field day on the Oakland front 7 on the ground ending up with 212 rushing yards. Chris Ivory (10-102 10.2 1 TD) had a 71 yard scamper to paydirt, and a seemingly rejuvenated Chris Johnson (13-68 5.2) looked comfortable in the backfield while also catching a 12 yard scoring pass from Smith. Eric Decker (5-74) also made an impact in his Jets season debut, and Smith now has a balance of receivers he can utilize in the much maligned passing game, including Jeremy Kerley (5-38) and Jeff Cumberland (5-50). Aaron Rodgers (23/33 189 1 TD 1 INT) saw limited success against a tough Seattle secondary and front line that sacked him 4 times and virtually yielded short drops for the most part. The Packers manged just 255 total yards against one of the league's best defenses, and also knocked out Eddie Lacy (12-34 2.8) with a concussion. Lacy is listed as probable for Sunday, which is good news for Rodgers considering this Packers pass first offense may not have to go so one-dimensional with protection in the backfield. Top targets Jordy Nelson (9-83) and Randal Cobb (6-58 1 TD) will be much stiffer tests for the Jets secondary, but Rodgers can expect a ton of outside pressure from LB Dawan Landry and DE Jason Babin. The best way to beat the Packers offense is to limit their time on the field and win the time of possession battle. The Jets controlling the ball and finishing off drives with touchdowns, not field goals, will be key. They have the personnel and scheme to do it. Ivory should be able to bruise his way through a bad Packers front seven and Johnson will have his role catching and running outside the tackles. Rodgers is eager to avenge last week's embarrassment with a much more efficient effort against the Jets. The Packers will try to dictate tempo, which means the Jets need to slow down the versatility in the passing game. If NY can hold Green Bay to just a few touchdowns and control the ball with the running game while not making too many mistakes, it could be another rough ride for the cheeseheads at Lambeau.

I am all over Central Michigan on Saturday. I got this game on Thursday at C. Mich +6. The line since then has dropped to +4.5. As I predicted last weekend, I see an upset in this game. Last week I predicted USC to upset Stanford at Stanford and that very thing happened. This week I predict another upset with Central Michigan at home getting the points facing the lowly Syracuse OrangeMEN ( I know they are called the Orange now, but I refuse to give in to political correctness). Cuse (1-0) has had 2 weeks off after playing only one game on the season. C. Mich. is 2-0 with no time off. That very thing tells me that the Chippewas have a HUGE advantage (at this point in the season) because it gives them one more game to get the team to "gel" and work the bugs out. The ORANGEMEN (I repeat, I'm not PC) do NOT have that advantage. 2 weeks ago the orangeMEN at home beat the lowly Villanova Wildcats. Last Week, C. Mich. beat the Purdue Boliermakers AT Purdue 38-17. So add it up...Cuse wins by one point at home against a not-so-good-team, yet C. Mich on the road last week whoops ass on Purdue AT Purdue as an underdog. C. Mich has a secondary that is a force to be reckoned with, and the orangeMEN will not be able to handle the Chippewas in this Game. The Chippewas win this game OUTRIGHT in an upset by at least 7 points.

Houston/Anaheim over 4.5 -115: Anaheim (91-55) takes their 8 game winning streak back home where they will face Houston (65-81). The Angels are coming off a sweep of Texas and now lead the second place Oakland Athletics by 10 full games with a magic number to clinch the AL West of 8. Houston has won 8 of it's last 10 and just took 2 out of 3 at Seattle. With the postseason nearing, the halos have treated every game as business as usual taking things one game at a time. The Astros are building on numerous improvement into the second half hoping to end 2014 on a high note thus brightening their future. Anaheim sends CJ Wilson (11-9) to the hill this evening. Last time out the 33 year old southpaw got a ton of run support in a 14-4 win over Minnesota yielding 3 ER on 4 H in 6.3 IP while striking out 6. Wilson will be facing an Astros lineup hitting a paltry .241 averaging just a shade under 4 runs per contest. However, despite stuck in 4th place in the AL West one thing the 'Stros are not short on is power as evident by their 155 HR good for rd place in the AL. Chris Carter (.237 36 85) is second in the league behind Nelson Cruz in HR and currently has a 9 game hitting streak (.375). Jose Altuve (.336 7 51) continues to lead the AL in hitting and has 52 stolen bases in 59 attempts (88%). Altuve leads Detroit's Victor Martinez by 3 percentage points and collected his 200th hit Wednesday night. Matt Dominguez (.221 15 53) is mired in a 3 for 25 slump over the last week (.120) that has helped plummet his average 13 points. Jason Castro (.230 14 54) has done a nice job behind the plate but has gone without a HR over the last 10 games. George Springer (.231 20 51) has been sidelined since July 19th with a knee injury but hopes to return sometime next week. Houston counters with Brett Oberholtzer (5-10 4.38) who stopped a personal 4 game losing streak last time out. Facing Oakland in a 4-3 win, the 25 year old southpaw gave up 3 ER on 7 H in 6.3 IP as he hopes to be a part of this rotation next season. Oberholtzer faces an Angels lineup hitting .263 overall but averaging a league high 4.9 runs per contest along with 140 HR. Howie Kendrick (.290 7 67) leads the club in batting, just broke a homerless streak of 50 games, and has hit safely over his last 8 going 18 for 36 (.500). Mike Trout (.285 32 103) far and away leads the Angels in power and production while already posting career highs in those categories. Albert Pujols (.276 26 92) may not be his vintage self and just fell short of the cycle Wednesday night, but has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games (.345). Erick Aybar (.285 7 66) is currently on a 5 game hitting streak including a HR last night. Kole Calhoun (.283 16 64) is on a 7 game hitting streak (.364) and will be one tough out come the postseason. We get a reasonable price this evening and though we may be winding down the regular season there are races to be decided and money to be made. Both Oberholtzer and Wilson had been pitching target practice before ending their misfortunes with wins each the last time out. The ball doesn't particularly carry well at Angels Stadium though the dimensions of 330 to the corners and 395 to straight away CF are inviting. Both of these teams have balances of power and production throughout the lineup. While Houston still could use pitching in the offseason, their lineup could be healthy enough to carry them further next season. At the same time, Anaheim continues to drive in runs via quality hits and by way of the long ball, so we could see some more fireworks tonight as Houston tries to make their won loss record look not nearly as unsuccessful as 2013. Best of luck however you play!
