Colorado/San Diego over 3.5 -120 The Rockies (6-7) were fortunate salvaging the middle game of their 3 games series at San Francisco thanks to 6 pitchers hurling a 1-0 shutout. Monday night marks the first of 4 games against the San Diego Padres (5-7) who are coming off taking 2 of 3 in their Interleague series with the Detroit Tigers. Tyson Ross scattered a run on 6 hits through 7 IP and beat Max Scherzer, who despite strkiking out 10 gave up 4 ER over 5. Colorado sends Jordan Lyles (2-0 3.86) to the hill this evening hoping to build on a strong start to the 2014 campaign. In his last start not only did he beat the Chicago White Sox 8-1 going 7 strong, but also belted 3 hits in as many plate appearances while driving in a couple of runs helping his own cause. Lyles might not be used to this after suffering 3 dismal seasons in Houston that saw him go a combined 14-29 with an ERA of 5.36. Lyles faces a Padres lineup that is no stranger to offensive swoons out of the gate. Averaging a tad under 3 runs per contest, San Diego is hitting a paltry .228 with Everth Cabrera (.347) as one of the few full-time bright spots. Yasmani Grandal (.391) has been used sparingly as he looks to fully recover from ACL surgery from last season. Xavier Nady and Seth Smith have each hit 2 HRS for the Pods this season, otherwise regulars like Chase Headley and Chris Denorfia are both off to anemic starts. Jedd Gyorko is about to sign a $32M extension for 6 years, which might enhance his struggling .163 mark at the plate over time. San Diego counters with Eric Stults (0-2 5.59) who fared a lot better than his hurling-like batting practice opener in a loss to Miami. Still due to a lack of offensive support Stults took the loss last Wednesday against Cleveland 2-0 in what was the first game of a doubleheader. Stults might have had an opportunity to turn around his 11-13 mark with a manageable distribution of runs behind his mates, but tonight may face a challenge with hot hitting Colorado batting .300 thus far. Charlie Blackmon (.482 1 9) has a better than .700 slugging percentage looking more and more comfortable in the leadoff spot. Carlos Gonzalez (.313 4 13) homered yesterday and is well on pace to break last season's inconsistency with a target to remain healthy this season. Justin Morneau and Troy Tulowitzki are both hitting .325 and will look to make most of their opportunities to drive in runs from the heart of the lineup. Another similar situation as Sunday getting a more expensive price at a lower line total. However, an added challenge is the presence of pitcher friendly Petco Park which is one of several NL West cathedrals when it comes to offense. Stults could very well have his hands full if he cannot be versatile with his pitches around a heavy hitting Rockies lineup. At the same time, Lyles, who had a tendency to pitch himself into trouble with Houston, will also look to be economical with his pitches in case he loses his consistency that has proved him successful over the first few outings. Best of luck however you play as we aim for 4 straight out of the gate!

Washington/Atlanta over 3.5 -120: After winning 7 of their first 9 , the Washington Nationals (7-4) have hit a roadblock looking to avoid a sweep in the finale of their 3 game series at the Atlanta Braves (7-4) this afternoon. Add to the fact that they got some momentum losing news regarding Ryan Zimmerman (.364 2 6), the road is only going to get tougher in the near future. Zimmerman suffered a broken right thumb diving into second base of last night's 6-3 loss to the Bravos. Zach Walters has been called up to replace Zimmerman on the roster. Atlanta sends out Aaron Harang (1-1 0.71) to the hill, who despite no run support in his last outing was nonetheless solid yielding just a run on 2 hits in 6 IP. The tough luck right-hander who took the loss in the Mets' 4-0 victory walked 4 batters and fanned 9, hasreceived just one run of offense in his 2 starts thus far. Harang faces a now limited Washington lineup who has so far shown it's versatility and balance in the lineup sporting a .277 average along with 13 HR. However, to add insult to injury, namely Zimmerman's is Jason Werth (.368 2 8) who came in yesterday's loss as a pinch hitter. He singled but also experienced cramping and is listed as day to day. Denard Span (.222 0 4) was placed on the 7 day DL with a concussion. WIth Werth likely to miss some time, Bryce Harper (.275 1 4) will likely move to CF and Anthony Rendon (.372 2 9) from 2B to 3B. Washington counters with Gio Gonzalez (2-0 0.75) who has started off 2014 in similar form that saw him go 21-8 with a 2.89 ERA two years ago. Finishing 3rd in 2012's Cy Young voting, Gio's two winning starts have come against Miami and the NY Mets and has maintained consistency and economics. He'll be facing an Atlanta lineup who seems to have found recent production so far in this series despite hitting just .240 overall. Freddie Freeman (.425 3 6) has picked up where he left off on last year's breakout campaign reaching base 5 times yesterday. All eyes are on Justin Upton (.366 3 6) who despite on and off struggles in 2013 seems to have found his niche. However the same unfortunately couldn't be said for brother BJ (.167 1 1) who batted just .184 in '13 and finally hit his first round tripper of the season yesterday. Dan Uggla (.195 0 5) is also off to a slow start by career standards and history, however he did go 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 ribs in yesterday's 6-3 win. Evan Gattis (.286 1 3) collected 3 hits and it's only a matter of time before the power numbers begin to re-surge. For good reason this afternoon's price is a bit on the high side, but given the first 2 outcomes of this series and the lower line, I feel confident that more of the same should be expected despite 2 pitchers cruising through their first 2 starts. The Nationals seem to master shuffling their lineup when it comes to making sacrifices due to injury. Atlanta's supporting cast is due to pick up the regulars as the days progress, and the 80 degree weather in downtown Atlanta should only enhance the offense. Make no mistake that Gonzalez and Harang will get their innings in, however the outcome could be taken into the bullpen's hands before the day is over. Best of luck however you play!

Arizona/San Francisco over 4.5 even: After losing 3 of 4 last week at Chase Field last week Arizona (3-8) has a chance to gain a measure of revenge if they can capture the rubber game of their series against San Francisco (6-3) this evening at AT&T Park. Thanks to HRs by Paul Goldscmidt and Gerardo Parra last night the Diamondbacks squared things up with a 7-3 win over the Giants Wednesday night. Tim Lincecum was rocked for 7 ER in just 4 IP while Bronson Arroyo earned his first victory of the young season scattering 3 ER on 6 hits over 5. Ryan Vogelsong (0-0 9.00) finished the 2013 campaign going just 4-6 with a 5.73 ERA covering 19 starts while missing 3 months due to a fractured right hand. He was not involved in the decision last Friday allowing 4 ER over 4 IP yielding back to back HR in his final inning of work. San Francisco however got enough offensive support to down the LA Dodgers 8-4. Vogelsong will look to cool off an Arizona lineup that has seen former Angels outfielder Mark Trumbo (.250 5 13) get off to a fast start. Goldschmidt (.381 2 8) has 16 hits already out of the 3 spot in the lineup while Martin Prado (.289 0 4) also looks to adjust to a new beginning. This lineup looks as intimidating on paper as they do on the field with the only objective being to balance it out collectively. It's only a matter of time before Parra (.273) along with Aaron Hill (.268) and Miguel Montero (.194) start producing on a more consistent basis against opposing pitchers. Arizona counters with Randall Delgado (0-1 11.57) who is pitching to keep his spot in the rotation after a rough first outing and inconsistency over his last 2 seasons. The right-hander was battered for 6 ER on 10 hits in 4 IP against Colorado last weekend in a 12-2 defeat. If Delgado doesn't improve on his ability to get batters out while minimizing his control problems, Josh Collementer, who picked up the save last night for the Snakes could replace him in the rotation. Delgado faces a Giants lineup who has seen Brandon Belt (.325 5 9) come out of the gate strong as one of the league's most feared hittters. Belt is currently on pace to exceed by plenty his 17 HR and 67 RBI last season. Buster Posey (.344 3 6) is also off to a fast start as is Michael Morse (.385 2 8) who returned to the NL after a split 2013 with Seattle and Baltimore. Angel Pagan (.462 1 8) will be key to remain healthy in the SF lineup after missing a big chunk of last season with a torn tendon in his left hamstring. We get a bargain of a price this evening from the city by the bay, and anticipate plenty of scoring early especially seeming Arizona is running out of patience and options with Delgado. With his command falling short of the consistent mark, he could very easily be headed for the bullpen before the end of the month. Vogelsong is also going to want to improve on his shaky first outing, and with both offenses off to good starts, we'll take our chances for another offensive fest despite a matchup in a venue suitable for a pitcher's best friend. Best of luck however you play!
