Baltimore -13 over Jacksonville (bought half): Baltimore (8-5) can control its playoff destiny if they can win their final 3 games. In week 14 they pulled off a significant come from behind win over Miami and can build on it taking on Jacksonville (2-11) this Sunday at M &T Bank Stadium. The Ravens are in this position despite a strange season that began with the suspension and eventual release of running back Ray Rice. They've lost tight end Dennis Pitta and cornerback Jimmy Smith to injuries and won't have defensive tackle Haloti Ngata for the rest of the regular season after he was suspended last Thursday for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. The Ravens overcame a 10 point first half deficit and defeated Miami at SunLIfe Stadium last week. Joe Flacco completed 25/33 for 269 yards and 2 TD with one INT. Justin Forsett ran for 71 yards on 13 carries (5.5) and a TD, while Steve Smith (7-70) and Kamar Aiken (6-65) each caught scoring receptions. Baltimore's defense sacked Ryan Tannehill 6 times and limited the Dolphin's ground game to just 63 yards. Tannehill completed 23/33 for 227 yards and a TD, but managed only a FG the final 45 minutes. while yielding 3 second half TD's. Jacksonville fell to Houston 27-13 which was their 37th loss in their last 45 regular season games, and 27th by more than double digits. Arian Foster ran for 127 yards on 24 carries (5.3) and scored on a one yard TD in the 4th to put the game away. Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 13/19 for 135 yards and also scored a rushing TD, as did Alfred Blue. Blake Bortles was just 20/39 for 205 yards with a TD and an INT. Houston's defense limited Jacksonville to just 74 rushing yards, including just 30 on 10 carries by Denard Robinson (3.0). Flacco (281/439 3258 22 TD 9 INT) has been relatively feast or famine depending on the Ravens opponent's secondary success or misfortunes. The Ravens are 13th in the league in passing and face Jacksonville's generous secondary which yields about 245 yards per contest good for 17th overall. Smith (61-889 6 TD), a 14 year veteran is Flacco's top target who despite gaining just 163 yards and 2 TD's over the last 3 games. Torrey Smith (38-609 8 TD) leads the club in receiving TDs, but is listed as questionable after suffering a knee injury after missing practice all week. That could mean more opportunities for Owen Daniels (41-412 3 TD) who has caught just 2 passes in each of the last 4 games. Forsett (192-1080 5.6 8 TD) has ran for 360 yards and 3 TD over the last 3 games. He's currently on pace for 1330 in this, his 7th season. The Ravens are 5th in the league in rushing averaging about 136 yards per contest. Not a great matchup if you're Jacksonville, who is just 27th against the run yielding about 133 weekly. The Ravens are dealing with a thin group of cornerbacks after injuries have cost several players at that position. One week ago, rookie Tramain Jacobs was placed on season-ending injured reserve. In order to boost their cornerback depth, the Ravens went out and signed Antoine Cason. The Jaguars thrive off of rushing the passer, and defensive end Chris Clemons is leading the charge. The 11th-year veteran is tied for the team lead with eight sacks to go with 14 quarterback hurries. The man who will often be tasked with blocking Clemons will be left tackle Eugene Monroe. Clemons likes to rush from a quarterback's blind side, and Monroe is Joe Flacco's blindside protector. Outside linebackers Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil were nearly unstoppable during last week's win over the Dolphins. Those two combined to record five sacks and six QB hits. They also chipped in four tackles for loss and 10 tackles, and they were all over the field. While Bortles has recently cut down on mistakes, he's not getting much protection nor efficiency from Robinson in the backfield. Baltimore's defense will look to contain the passing game and force Bortles into making quick decisions under pressure. The Ravens featuring Forsett have a decisive edge in the running game, and Flacco is experienced enough to understand the importance of being efficient especially when there's not much room for error seeking a return to the postseason. Ravens get off to a quick start in this one and hold the fort down throughout.
