Mark,
My streak for the streaker contest should be at 3. Covered the Wash state game last night. Thanks, Brian
hey mark......ryan said the "limit" rule is for MLB! So I should be at +3 thru Fri 02/24........
Thank You......gamblinrose
why is it that we can post streaker contest picks with out the line, but we need to post the line in NBA POD ? any chance that can be changed...so that all that is needed is the rotation number for picks on the side...and only a line needed when its on the total? it would help those to that get their picks in on time and not have to wait until after 5 pm for the missing games.
Mark......did you need my bookmaker acct. # ?

MLB Top 3: Best home/away total bets in baseball By JASON LOGAN Watching the winds at Wrigley Field is always on top of a baseball bettor’s daily to-do list. And so far this season, those Windy City gusts have helped total bettors go 14-10 over/under when capping the Chicago Cubs’ home stands. That may not seem like a huge windfall for over backers, until you compare it to the Cubs’ over/under count on the road. Chicago is 6-13 over/under away from the north side, heading into Tuesday’s game at Pittsburgh. The Cubbies play over 58 percent of the time at home but just 32 percent on the road. Chicago isn’t the only club with decisively different over/under counts at home and away. Here are three other MLB teams presenting value to total bettors depending on the scenery: Atlanta Braves (8-10 O/U home, 16-9-1 O/U away) The Braves pitching has defended the House That Ted Built with an MLB best 2.43 ERA at home while posting a 4.06 ERA on the road – a difference of 1.63 runs. Atlanta is 1-3 over/under to start its current six-game home stand. Pittsburgh Pirates (7-16-1 O/U home, 13-7 O/U away) Bucs’ ace A.J. Burnett is a different man inside PNC Park. Last season, he went 8-6 with a 3.10 ERA at home, where the Pirates finished 5-12 over/under in his 17 starts. Burnett is 2-3 with a 2.51 ERA in seven home starts in 2013. Pittsburgh is 1-6 over/under in those home appearances. Philadelphia Phillies (14-8-1 O/U home, 7-15 O/U away) Outside of Wrigley Field, Citizens Bank Park is perhaps the ultimate example of how much ballparks can make a difference. The Phillies’ crumbling lineup is having a tough time scoring, ranked 27th in runs per game, averaging four runs at home compared to just 2.95 on the road. Citizens Bank Park ranks as the second-best hitters park in the majors this season (behind Wrigley).

Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates Chicago Cubs
+125 at SIA
15* MLB Wednesday Undervalued Underdog on Chicago Cubs +125
The Chicago Cubs get the nod Wednesday at an excellent price against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Francisco Liriano is getting way too much respect here, while Jeff Samardzija is once again being undervalued.
I have no doubt that Samardzija is the better starter in this one folks. Chicago's ace has been solid this season, posting a 3.49 ERA and 1.200 WHIP with 64 strikeouts over 56 2/3 innings.
Sure, Liriano has pitched well, but he has only made two starts this season. His 1.64 ERA through those two starts is a little misleading because he was able to get out of trouble. He put plenty of runners on base with his 1.545 WHIP, allowing 17 base runners over 11 innings.
Samardzija owns the Pirates, going 3-0 with a 0.72 ERA and 0.400 WHIP in three starts having never lost. He has allowed just two earned runs and 10 base runners over 25 innings while striking out 23. Roll with the Cubs Wednesday.

Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Indians Detroit Tigers
-1½+119 at 5dimes
15* MLB Wednesday No-Doubt Rout on Detroit Tigers -1.5 (+119)
Justin Verlander just lost to Ubaldo Jimenez and the Cleveland Indians on May 11th at home by a final of 6-7. I look for Verlander to come back extra motivated tonight to get revenge on Jimenez and company.
Verlander has gone 4-4 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.296 WHIP through nine starts this season. Jimenez has gone 3-2 with a 5.31 ERA in eight starts, including 1-2 with a 9.72 ERA in four home starts. Jimenez is also 5-7 with a 5.12 ERA in 14 career starts against Detroit.
Detroit is 45-28 against the run line (+20.9 Units) after having lost 4 or 5 of their last 6 games over the last 3 seasons. I look for Verlander to match Max Scherzer's gem last night en route to a 5-1 Detroit victory. Take the Tigers on the Run Line Wednesday.

Kansas City Royals vs Houston Astros Kansas City Royals
-1½-120 at 5dimes
15* MLB Run Line PLAY OF THE DAY on Kansas City Royals -1.5 (-120)
The Kansas City Royals are looking to get back on track in this series with the lowly Houston Astros. They had lost four straight after a Game 1 loss, but they bounced back with a 7-3 victory last night.
I like the Royals' chances of a two-plus run triumph once again tonight given the massive edge they have on the mound. James Shields looks to continue his dominance while outdueling Jordan Lyles.
Shields has posted a 2.45 ERA and a 0.955 WHIP through nine starts this season, including a 1.50 ERA and 0.792 WHIP in his last three. Lyles has gone 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA and 1.737 WHIP in four starts, including 1-1 with an 8.36 ERA and 1.929 WHIP in three home starts.
Houston is 25-86 (-38.9 Units) against the money line as an underdog of +150 or more over the last 2 seasons. It is losing by 2.4 runs/game in this spot. Lyles is 9-32 (-17.5 Units) against the money line as an underdog of +100 or higher over the last 3 seasons. He is losing by 2.5 runs/game in this spot. Bet the Royals on the Run Line Wednesday. -

double-dime bet 974 ANA / 973 SEA - UNDER 8.5
Analysis: I'm playing the Under between the Mariners & Angels on Wednesday.
One of the toughest situations in all of baseball occurs in Anaheim today. First pitch between the Mainers & Angels is at 4:05 PM local (pacific) time. The way Angel Stadium is configured, the way the sun and shadows "play-out" between 4:05 PM and roughly 6 PM PT makes for a difficult time at the plate. Both teams are in poor scoring situations as it is. The Mariners enter on a 9-3-3 Under run against southpaws and will face lefty C.J. Wilson. They're 4-0 to the Under when Maurer faces AL West opponents. And it certainly doesn't hurt to have an "Under" home plate umpire (Victor Carapazza) behind the plate. I'm playing the Under between the Mariners & Angels on Wednesday. Thanks! GL! Scott Spreitzer. -

4-Unit Play. Take #960 Pittsburgh (-130) over Chicago Cubs (7 p.m., Wednesday, May 22)
I am going with the Pirates again in this one. i cashed in with them yesterday and want to do the same thing today. This is a big series for the Pirates and they hate the Cubs. And I think that Francisco Liriano will continue his strong pitching. He is 2-0 in his two starts for them and looks good. Last night was a deflating loss for the Cubs. Their bullpen is terrible. They gave up a late lead and that could carry over into today's game. The Pirates have won six of seven and they are a hot team right now. This team plays great at home and I think that they will get the job done again. -

Wunderdog Sports Free Pick
Game: Seattle at Los Angeles Angels (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: Los Angeles Angels -1.5 runs +110 (runline)
The Los Angeles Angels are in familiar territory as they started slow last year, and have done so again this season. Signs of change are blowing in the wind, as the Angels' bats appear to be catching up to the talent they possess. The Halos have won three straight on the strength of 30 runs, and look to closeout the Mariners here tonight. The Ms are in a team-wide slump at 0-5 in their last five, having been shutout twice, and getting beat by a combined 39-17 score. One area that the Angels have shined is at home vs. a losing team, where they are 12-4 in their last 16. These teams are heading in opposite directions for now, so play the Angels on the runline. -

Seattle vs. LA Angels
Pick: LA Angels
While the price is admittedly a little steep, all signs indicate that the Angels should have the edge again this evening.
Wilson should be pleased to be opposed by someone other than Chris Sale. He's been matched up against Sale each of his last two starts. He pitched well in both those games but was outduelled by Sale, who didn't allow a run in either game.
Wilson, who is 12-5 vs. Seattle, has now allowed three or fewer earned runs in seven straight games.
Wilson figures to finally get some run support here as Maurer is 2-5 with a 5.75 ERA. He averages five innings per start, allowing a home run per outing. He's walked eight batters in his last three starts, a span of 15 innings. Opposing batters are hitting .295 against him for the season.
The Angels bullpen is well-rested. Not only did LA get eight complete innings from Williams last night, the previous day was an off day. On the other hand, the M's played an extra inning game Monday, then traveled across the country. They also only got 3 2/3 innings out of Harang, last night's starter.
The Angels also have a far better (and hotter) lineup, one which exploded for 15 hits last night.
With yesterday's victory, the Angels are now 14-7 the last 21 times they were a host in this series. Consider laying the wood. -

Tyler Lyons makes his Major League debut for the Cardinals against Burch Smith, who has been rocked in his two outings. Lyons is a lefty, which is a benefit for us because lefties, especially control pitchers like Lyons, tend to have a lot of success their first time around the league. Lyons sits in the 89-91 range with the fastball, has a plus slider, and has a career 3.47 K/BB ratio in the minor leagues. The Padres have not fared well against left handed pitching so far, with a .293 wOBA and just a .306 OBP. The Cardinals bullpen has stabilized a lot with a 2.72 ERA in May and they're playing some good baseball of late, with a 13-5 record in the month of May entering Tuesday night's action.
Burch Smith has lasted just 6.1 innings in his first two Major League starts and he draws a difficult Cardinals lineup on Wednesday night. Four of Smith's 11 hits allowed have left the ballpark and he allowed three of them in his last start at Petco Park. Not only has Smith struggled, but the fact that he has been unable to work deep into games has forced the Padres into their bullpen very early and that's never a good thing for a team. Smith just doesn't appear to be ready. He pitched just 31 innings in Double-A before getting the call and skipped Triple-A altogether.
With the Cardinals playing great baseball and a favorable pitching matchup, there's a lot of value in taking them here as a small favorite. -

Boston Red Sox at Chicago White Sox
Prediction: Chicago White Sox
The White Sox put the wraps on a three-game series with the Red Sox Wednesday night when they send super-surging Chris Sale to the mound at Comiskey Park. Sale takes the hill with team start wins in each of his last five starts while posting a sharp 1.14 ERA in those games. He's also in commanding KW form with 24 strikeouts and 3 walks in his last three efforts. With that look for Sale to improve to 9-1 in his career team starts during the month of May here tonight. We recommend a 1-unit play on the White Sox. -

CRAIG DAVIS
Free play of the day on the NY Yankees with Hiroki Kuroda on the mound against the Baltimore Orioles... a team that has been stumbling and bumbling until last night.
Kuroda has not only been pitching well of late for the Yankees, he's dominated the Orioles in three career starts against them.
The first number that stands out is the total number of innings pitched. When researching this game I expected to see something like 19 or 20 innings... but I was shocked to see Kuroda had lasted 24 1/3 innings in three starts.
Folks, that's more than eight innings per start against the Orioles --- but what's even more shocking is that he actually suffered a loss in those three starts. He's 2-1 with a 1.85 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP in those starts but hasn't gotten a ton of run support in two of them.
In his last start (earlier this year), Kuroda went all nine scattering five hits and no walks in a 3-0 shutout.
Baltimore counters with Jason Hammel who, although he beat them in his last home start against the Bronx Bombers, is 2-3 lifetime with a 5.82 ERA.
Hammel is just one of many Baltimore starters struggling right now and after holding the Yankees to two runs last night, you can bet they'll come out firing tonight.
Take the Yankees as your free play of the day.

The New York Mets Matt Harvey has been a delight to watch this season with a perfect 5-0 record and several dominant performances and odds are he is going to have a brilliant year if they let him keep pitching instead of capping his innings.
Despite his record though the Mets have lost two of his starts and I like this spot against a very good hitting Cincinnati lineup.
The Reds have a Mat of their own and he also has a perfect record at 4-0. This Mat, Latos, has a much longer track record of success including a 2.70 ERA against the Mets for his career.
I think Latos can outduel Harvey and the talent surrounding each is clearly better for Cincinnati.
Take advantage of the Reds as a slight dog.

ART ARONSON
This is a 1* free play on the "under" between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night (7:10 EST).
Cliff Lee (4-2, 2.83 ERA) gets the call for the visitors; Lee was unfortunate to get saddled with a no-decision vs. the Reds last Friday, giving up two runs off six hits over seven frames, striking out seven and walking two. Lee is finally hitting his stride, quietly putting together a dominant stretch by not allowing more than two runs in each of his last three outings (note that Lee is 1-1 with a respectable 3.38 ERA in his last three vs. the Fish). Lee will be opposed by Kevin Slowey (1-4, 3.44 ERA) who is coming off an outing to forget in which he gave up six runs off seven hits over three frames vs. the Diamondbacks on Friday. Slowey has stumbled a bit over his last two starts, seeing his ERA rise from 1.81 to 3.44; a date vs. the Phillies is just what the doctor ordered though as the right-hander is 1-0 with a minuscule 0.73 ERA over his last two starts vs. Philadelphia already this season. I believe the table is set for these veterans to battle each other into the latter frames as they take advantage of these inconsistent line-ups. How about you? What do you think? Duel or slugfest? -

MATT FARGO COMP
The Pirates remain hot as they have won nine of their last 11 games after winning the series opener last night. The victory improved them to 16-9 at home but I feels this is an excellent spot to go against them. The offense has been lukewarm as Pittsburgh is hitting just .243 over its last 10 games including .228 against right-handed pitching. Francisco Liriano will be making his third start of the season and so far, he has been pretty solid. He has allowed just one run in each of his first two starts but he has yet to make it through six innings and despite a 1.64 ERA, he has a 1.55 WHIP so he has been fortunate that he has not allowed more runs with the amount of baserunners he has put on. He has faced the Cubs once and wax lit up last season, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings. Chicago has dropped two straight following a solid run where it went 5-2 over a seven-game stretch. The offense is showing signs of life with a .271 average over its last 10 games and while hitting lefties has been an issue, facing an inconsistent Liriano could make that come around. Jeff Samardzija is having a solid season with a 3.49 ERA through nine starts but he has certainly been a tough luck pitcher with just 3.1 rpg of support behind him. He has already faced the Pirates once this season and shut them out for eight innings and in his three career starts against Pittsburgh, he has a 0.72 ERA and all of those starts took place at PNC Park. Five teams that have dramatically improved their MLB futures odds We’re over 40 games into the MLB season and many teams have dramatically improved their futures odds since the beginning of the 2013 campaign. Here are five clubs with the most improved odds: Texas Rangers – Opened: 20/1, Now: 8/1 The Rangers were expected to take a step back in 2013 after losing slugger Josh Hamilton, but Texas hasn’t missed a beat, building a comfortable 6.5-game cushion over the Oakland A’s in the AL West heading into action Monday. St. Louis Cardinals – Opened: 16/1, Now: 10/1 The Cardinals pitching staff continues to be the envy of the NL Central as its 3.18 team ERA is tops in the bigs. New York Yankees – Opened: 25/1, Now: 12/1 Early injuries to Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira had oddsmakers skeptical about New York’s chances this season. But Robinson Cano’s big bat and surprise contributions from fill-ins Vernon Wells and Lyle Overbay have the Bronx Bombers sitting on top of the AL East. Boston Red Sox – Opened: 30/1, Now: 12/1 Boston’s pitching staff was historically bad last season, but Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz have rebounded nicely and are back to dominating opposing hitters. Slugger David Ortiz is batting .364 since returning from an Achilles injury and continues to be a force in the middle of the order. Cleveland Indians – Opened: 60/1, Now: 25/1 The Indians have won 18 of their last 22 contests to take control of the AL Central. The Tribe’s offense is averaging just over five runs per game. Only the Detroit Tigers have a more potent offense.

3-Unit Play. Take #902 Pittsburgh (-140) over Chicago Cubs (7 p.m.)
I am going with the home Pirates in this game. Matt Garza is coming back from injury and is making his first start of the year. I think it is going to take some time for him to get into a groove. Wandy Rodriguez has been really good for the Pirates. He is 6-2 on the year and has an ERA of just 2.37 in his last three starts. The Cubs have struggled against left-handed pitching and that gives us a big edge here. The Pirates have revenge here because they lost their first series of the year at home to these Cubs. Chicago is just 19-40 against a team with a winning record and just 16-36 against a left-handed pitcher. Go with the home team.
2-Unit Play. Take #907 L.A. Dodgers (-130) over Milwaukee (8 p.m.)
I won my wager with the Dodgers last night behind Clayton Kershaw. Now I think that Zach Greinke can get the job done against his old team. The Brewers are just 5-16 in their last 21 games and they are just 8-20 as an underdog. This team is really struggling right now. The Dodgers are not a reliable team to wager on. But they are 5-0 as a favorite and they have gone 5-2 as a road favorite so the books are pricing them well. I think the visitors have a big pitching mismatch in their favor and should get Game 2 of this series. -

SAN FRANCISCO (CAIN -115) Washington (Strasburg)
Washington has lost 6-of-8 with Stephen Strasburg -6.5 units. His road ERA is an unimpressive 4.18.
Matt Cain has a stunning 18-0 team mark if he won his last start and threw at least 100 pitches. San Francisco has won three straight with Matt Cain.
Cain's WHIP suggests he has pitched much better than his ERA suggests and that is why he has regressed to the mean with his winning streak. His WHIP is 1.207 overall and 1.120 at home.
The Nats are 3-7 the last 10. The Giants are 15-5 their last 20 at home. In 12 starts to the Nats, Matt Cain has an ERA of 3.17 and a WHIP of 1.129. He has been dominant at home against the Nationals, going 3-1 with a 1.66 ERA and two complete games in five career starts.
The last seven games the Nats are hitting .200 with an embarrassing .259 OBP. Compare that to the Giants .312 and .356. -

BALTIMORE ORIOLES OVER 4.5 RUNS (@sporsbook.ag)
A solid weather pattern for us here tonight at Camden Yards & with the temps being in the high 80's and with said humidity due to the temps in high 80's we are really seeing the ball carry at Camden & we also have the wind blowing out slightly to LCF as well tonight. NYY starter Phil Hughes is a BIG TIME FLY BALL pitcher and he has been smacked around his last couple starts. He has also been roughed up in his L/5 starts vs these Orioles (4 starts last season and 1 this season). He only went 3 innings and gave up 9 hits and 5 ER and 3 HR's, 2BB and xero K's, in his 1 start vs Baltimore this season. Needless to say that several O's have great numbers vs Hughes and that coupled with the weather pattern we have going on tonight with an extreme fly ball pitcher, we really should get this one tonight, IMO. -

4-unit Play Take #915 Tampa Bay Rays (-140) over Toronto Blue Jays (7:05pm ET) One of the more underrated pitchers in the American League takes the mound today in Toronto and it's not Ramon Ortiz. At 25-years old, Alex Cobb is making a name for himself. He put together a solid season and a half coming into 2013, and this year he's raised his game several levels. He's 4-2 with a 2.89 ERA and 1.17 WHIP and is every bit as good as those numbers indicate. He's striking out 8.8 batters per nine innings and has only given up 12 free passes in 53 innings of work. He's also a groundball machine and has a good plan against every batter he faces. He'll go up against a talented but underachieving Blue Jays lineup today. The Jays are just 11th in the AL in runs scored and have scored just four runs more than the Houston Astros. Ortiz will be tasked with slowing down a hot hitting Tampa Bay Rays team today. The Rays have averaged 6.2 runs per game in their last 21 games after a slow start to the season. Ortiz is 40-years old in two days and hasn't pitched more than 35 major league innings in a season since 2007. His career ERA is 4.90 and he surely isn't in his prime at this point. This one could get really ugly, as the Rays should cruise to a victory.
2-unit Play Take #917 New York Yankees (+105) over Baltimore Orioles (7:05pm ET) Phil Hughes has given up 13 runs in his last two starts and has a ridiculous 18.47 ERA in those outings. In the four starts previous, he had a 1.93 ERA and a 30-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio. But that's who Hughes is - an inconsistent pitcher who has more than his share of ups and downs. But one thing can definitely be said for Hughes is that he shouldn't be allowed to pitch in Yankee Stadium. He's a right-handed fly ball pitcher, and that's not good in a stadium with a short porch in right field. Today we get him on the road, where he's been more comfortable his entire career. The Baltimore Orioles are sliding a bit lately, losing six straight games. I didn't think this team was as strong as advertised last season, and expected significant regression in 2013. After a hot start, I think we're starting to see it. The ageless Freddy Garcia will get the ball for the O's today, and that's not a good sign. Sweaty Freddy has a 5.51 ERA and is only striking out 3.3 batters per nine innings. He's just a stopgap filling in for injuries right now, so Baltimore would be happy to just get five innings from him each start. The Yankees offense has been surprising this season given all of their injury problems. Now they're starting to get guys back, and that's scary for the rest of the league as the Yankees are in first place at the moment. If this game should happen to come down to bullpens, the Yanks have an advantage there with Robertson and Rivera in the 8th and 9th. I like the Yanks to continue their hot start and get the win today. -

Game: Tampa Bay at Toronto (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: Toronto +130 (moneyline)
It has become apparent that the Tampa Bay Rays aren't the same pitching-heavy team they were a year ago. David Price has struggled, Shields is in Kansas City, and Fernando Rodney who was lights-out closing games a year ago, is not even close to what he did a year ago. Factor in Moore who is 8-0, and the Rays are otherwise a bad team. Alex Cobb has dominated at home, but has been very shaky on the road. Ramon Ortiz has given the Blue Jays' rotation a lift at 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA. The Jays have played well in expected higher than normal scoring games, taking their last five with a total of 9 to 10.5. The Rays are just 2-8 behind Cobb after scoring 5+ in their previous game. Go with Toronto. -

2 UNIT = Kansas City Royals @ Houston Astros - ASTROS TO WIN (+120)
Listed Pitchers: Davis vs Norris
(Note: I’m risking 2.00 units to win 2.40 units)
The Houston Astros are coming off a 6-5 win last night vs Kansas City as underdogs. That extends Kanas City’s losing streak to 4 games and they are now just 2-8 over their last 10 games overall. The Astros have won 3 of their last 5 games overall, and although they are just 13-32 on the year they send their best starting pitcher to the mound. Bud Norris will be pitching for Houston and he is 4-4 on the season with a 4.32 ERA, .296 OBA and 1.54 WHIP. He is coming off a rough outing where he allowed 7 earned runs vs Detroit, but that came on short rest after going 8 innings allowing just 1 earned run at home vs the Angels. He has now had a full week of rest and should be ready to get back at it with a quality home start. At home this year he is 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA (compared to a road ERA of 7.71). That isn’t rare for Bud Norris as he was 4-1 with a stellar 1.71 ERA at home last year compared to a road ERA of 6.94. He will be facing Wade Davis who takes the mound for the Royals. Davis is 3-3 on the season with a 5.98 ERA, .349 OBA and 1.89 WHIP. After a pretty good start to the season Davis has had his troubles lately allowing 23 earned runs over his last 5 starts. His last time out he went 5.1 innings giving up 9 hits and 4 earned runs, and his start before that he allowed 7 earned runs over 5 innings of work. Over 4 road starts his ERA is at 4.95 with opponents hitting .369 against him. Take note that the Royals are just 3-10 in their last 13 games as a small road favorite between -110 and -150 and they are 0-6 in their last 6 games as a favorite overall. I will take the value on the underdog tonight. -

Dodgers vs. Brewers
Pick: Dodgers
After the Dodgers took Game 1 in Milwaukee, breaking out of a three game slump, they have another favorable matchup tonight. Zack Greinke is back off the DL, and he looked pretty good in his first start since his return.
Greinke (2-0, 1.62 ERA) allowed a single run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 3-1 win over Washington in his first start off the DL. He's now allowed only three runs in three starts so far this year, and the Dodgers have won all three games.
You could say that he likes pitching at Miller Park, he's won 15 straight starts in his former home ballpark.
The Dodgers will get another look at Hiram Burgos, who they already beat earlier this year. Burgos has lost consecutive starts, and he's winless in his last four outings. He was really torched by the Reds in Cincinnati on May 11, allowing 12 runs in just three innings.
The Dodgers got some offense from Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier yesterday, and they should be able to get a few runs on Burgos tonight. -

Mariners vs. Angels
Pick: Angels
I had some success over the weekend with the Angels (as well as the rest of my plays!), and will look to use them again Tuesday as they welcome in the Seattle Mariners for the start of a brief two-game set.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Scheduling Favors Home Team - It will be tough for Seattle to get over Monday's loss to the Indians. Despite homering in the 8th, 9th and 10th innings, the Mariners still lost the game 10-8. It was particularly painful after reliever Wilhelmsen made a costly error with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. The fact that the Angels had Monday off is a huge advantage, obviously. With yesterday's loss, Seattle dropped to 9-16 on the road.
2. Harang Woes - Seattle starter Aaron Harang has not pitched well this season at all, particularly on the road. His ERA away from Safeco Field (two starts) is 8.43. He has never beaten the Angels in four starts, going 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA and 2.037 WHIP.
3. X-Factor - While the Angels finally seem to have some momentum, Seattle was swept in Cleveland. -

Chicago vs. Pittsburgh
Pick: Pittsburgh
Good matchup here for the surging Bucs taking on the struggling Cubs. Having won 8 of 10, at home, and with a hot pitcher on the mound, Pittsburgh should roll here.
The Pirates have won both series so far on the current homestand, including taking two of three over the weekend against Houston, their old NL Central rival. Now they play a current division foe, one that's lost three of five. Pittsburgh has revenge on its mind here after dropping two of three early in the season here at PNC Park. Fortunately, they have Wandy Rodriguez on the mound for Tuesday's series opener. The southpaw has won back to back starts, allowing only two runs over 13 innings. His ERA in four home starts thus far is a sparkling 1.35.
The Cubs come in averaging just 2.7 runs per game vs. lefties, batting .217. They are not a good road team either, averaging only 2.9 runs while batting .218. Pittsburgh is 15-9 at home. Chicago will go with Matt Garza for the 1st time in 2013 Tuesday. An injury to his right elbow caused him to miss almost the entire second half of 2012. A lat injury has caused him to miss the first two months of this season. He will be on a strict pitch count. He'll also have to deal with Pittsburgh having Andrew McCutchen back in the lineup. -

When Ian Kennedy matches serves with Jhoulys Chacin and the Rockies at Coors Field in Colorado in Game Two of this three-game series the Diamondbacks will do so knowing is 9-4 in his career team starts against the Rockies. On the flip side Chacin is in struggling current form and 0-6 with a 7.91 ERA in his last six-team starts during the month of May. Back the better arm here today. We recommend a 1-unit play on Arizona. -

My comp play winner for Tuesday is the Twins-Braves to hold Under the total.
Last night, just 6 combined runs between the clubs, and 5 of them were tallied by the home team Bravos.
Last night's Under puts Minnesota on a 4-2 Under run their last 6 games, while it was Atlanta's 3rd straight game below the total. Overall, Atlanta is 5-2-1 Under the total their last 8 times on the field.
Both Mike Pelfrey and Tim Hudson have been struggling of late, but tonight I think they both settle down and get into a groove and deal the way they have dealt in the past.
Runs once again tough to come by for both the Twins and Braves.
Minnesota-Atlanta Under the total the call.

Today's free play is on the Yankees-Orioles to go OVER the total.
Phil Hughes absolutely imploded in his last start... his last two actually... and wants to rebound back to his previous four starts when his ERA was under 2.00 and recorded two wins vs. no losses.
In his last start Hughes didn't even make it out of the first inning... the first time that's ever happened to him in his career. He allowed seven earned runs in less than an inning of work vs. Seattle and, although it wasn't as bad as his last start, allowed six runs in six innings in the start before that.
Hughes has an ERA of nearly 6.00 with a W/L record of 2-3.
Granted, he's normally better in May than he is in April, but I'm basing this game on what I've seen recently and I simply haven't liked what I've seen.
As for Baltimore, they look to avoid their seventh straight loss after last night's shocker when Travis Hafner tied the the game in the 9th with a solo homer off Baltimore closer Jim Johnson.
Miguel Gonzalez (2-2, 4.58) gets the start and looks to improve upon his last start. He was recently on the DL with a blister on his throwing hand, but has come back stronger than he was before his trip to the DL.
Gonzalez took the loss in his last start versus the Yanks, allowing three runs on six hits and five walks over six-plus innings back in April.
Honestly, I don't care if he gets the win or not... as long as the run total for both teams is elevated.
Take the OVER as your free play of the day.

Tuesday's freebie is the Dodgers over the Brewers for a second straight night.
Los Angeles stopped a 6 game road losing streak with the 3-1 win last night in the series opener, and I like them to take advantage of this sliding Milwaukee team again tonight behind Zack Greinke.
Milwaukee has now lost 7 of their last 8 at home, and 15 of 18 overall coming into tonight's contest against their former teammate.
Greinke is making his second start since being shelved with the broken collarbone back in early April, and he did win in his return to the rotation, allowing just one run in his 5-plus innings of comeback work.
Rookie Hiram Burgos will take the mound for the slumping Brew Crew, and this will be Burgos' second start versus the Dodgers this year. In his first, he allowed 3 runs and 4 hits in 6 innings of work before leaving with a no-decision.
With the heat on manager Don Mattingly, look for the Dodgers to respond with another win for their beleaguered skipper.

Pittsburgh Pirates -132
Did you notice that the Pittsburgh Pirates are in second place in the N.L Central...they are also on a roll having won 8 of 10 heading into Monday night.
I think the good times will continue to roll Tuesday at home. Pittsburgh has lefty Wandy Rodriguez on the hill. Way-Rod is enjoying a fine season including 6 shutout innings against the Cubbies in his first start of the year.
As much as I like him I also really like fading Cubs starter Matt Garza Tueday. Garza never really lives up to expectations and this is his first start of the season after starting the year on the disabled list.
I don’t have a lot of confidence in him coming out guns blazing. -

ART ARONSON
This is a 1* free play on the "under" between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Diego Padres.
Adam Wainwright (5-3, 2.51 ERA) gets the call for the visitors; the 31-year old went six frames vs. the Mets on Thursday giving up four runs off six hits while striking out eight. Wainwright would give up a single walk, which was just his sixth total free pass of the season. Wainwright looks to get back on track vs. the soft-hitting Friars and will be opposed by Edinson Volquez (3-4, 5.55 ERA) who is coming off an outing to forget in which he gave up five runs off five hits over five frames of work vs. the Nationals on Thursday; he'd strike out seven and walk four in the 6-2 setback. Here's a chance for the veteran to get untracked against a team he enjoyed success against last year, going 1-1 with a 3.97 ERA in two starts vs. the Cards in 2012. Seven of these teams last ten vs. each other have fallen below the posted number. I believe these starters can duel into the latter frames and expect this one to stay "under" the number. How about you? Pitchers duel or slug-fest? -

Miami Marlins+105
It's hard to get behind the Marlins - except when rookie Jose Fernandez takes the mound.
New York's Matt Harvey is drawing most of the rookie attention. Harvey has been sensational, but Fernandez is a rising star, too. As bad as Miami is, Fernandez should not open as a home 'dog to Tyler Cloyd and a cold Phillies team.
Fernandez is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his last three starts with 21 strikeouts in 20 innings during this span. Fernandez's hot streak began against the Phillies in Citizens Park, a much easier stadium to hit in. He beat the Phillies, 2-0, giving up just one hit in seven innings with nine strikeouts. This was the second time Fernandez faced the Phillies. He held them to two hits in six scoreless innings on April 13.
So Philadelphia has yet to score on Fernandez in 13 innings getting just three hits and striking out 14 times against him. The Phillies are not in good form either being outscored, 17-4, in their last three games.
Miami has the worst offense in the league, but the Phillies are 27th in runs averaging just 3.4 per game. It's too much to expect of Cloyd, a fill-in starter, to keep pace with Fernandez. Cloyd has a 4.58 career ERA in seven big league starts. -

(921) OAKLAND ATHLETICS VS (922) TEXAS RANGERS
Take: UNDER THE TOTAL.
Oakland heads to Texas and the under is 5-0 in the Athletics last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter. They aren't facing an ordinary righty here, but ace Yu Darvish (7-1, 2.97 ERA), who has struck out 86 in 60+ innings and only 37 hits! The under is 7-1 in the Rangers last 8 home games. The Oakland offense has been struggling, on an 8-3 run under the total, and when these division rivals meet the under is 10-4-1 in the last 15 meetings. Play the A's/Rangers under the total. -

Yankees at Orioles: What bettors need to know New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles (+130, 8.5) The Baltimore Orioles face their first real adversity this season, losing the last five games at home including two in the ninth inning. The Orioles look to change their fortunes when they host the first-place New York Yankees on Monday to start a three-game series. Baltimore has dropped into a tie for third with Tampa Bay, four games behind the Yankees in the American League East. The Orioles went 1-2 last month at New York, which won 9 of 12 before being rained out Sunday. Manny Machado and Adam Jones are among the league leaders in hits and Chris Davis is near the top in homers (12) and RBIs (40). But the Orioles’ starting pitchers have lasted more than six innings once in the last 10 games. Yankees slugger Robinson Cano is coming off a two-homer game Saturday and is batting .338 with 24 blasts in his career against Baltimore. TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, YES (New York), MASN (Baltimore) PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH CC Sabathia (4-3, 3.19 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Freddy Garcia (0-2, 5.51) Sabathia was slated to pitch Sunday before the rainout, so he will take the mound against a team he has had a lot of success against. The veteran left-hander is 17-4 in 26 career starts against Baltimore with a 3.03 ERA. Sabathia has allowed three or fewer earned runs in seven of nine games in 2013, but has only one victory in his last five turns. He has surrendered eight homers in 59 1/3 innings. Garcia has allowed four homers in 16 1/3 innings during his first three starts for the Orioles. The veteran right-hander, who owns a 152-103 career record, gave up two runs over 6 2/3 innings during his first outing before being touched up for eight in 9 2/3 frames his last two. Garcia is 5-4 in 12 starts with a 4.09 ERA against the Yankees. Travis Hafner is 15-for-33 with four home runs against him. WALK-OFFS 1. Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is 16-for-16 in save opportunities, his second longest streak to start a season. He converted the first 28 chances in 2008. 2. Jones is 14-for-44 with three homers and 10 RBIs in his career against Sabathia. 3. The Yankees, off to their second best 43-game start in the last 15 years (27-16), are 18-0 when scoring the first run.

Minnesota Twins vs Atlanta Braves Minnesota Twins
+144 at BetOnline
15* MLB Monday Undervalued Underdog on Minnesota Twins +144
The Atlanta Braves have no business being this heavily favored over the Minnesota Twins Monday. The Twins actually have the edge on the mound in this one, yet they are a big road underdog here.
Kevin Correia has been going under the radar all season. The right-hander has gone 4-3 with a 3.35 ERA and 1.230 WHIP through eight starts in 2013. Correia is 3-2 with a 3.47 ERA in seven career starts against Atlanta as well.
Julio Teheran had a solid spring training for Atlanta, but he hasn't been able to convert that success into the regular season. Teheran is 2-1 with a 4.57 ERA and 1.476 WHIP in seven starts this year, including 0-0 with a 6.10 ERA and 1.936 WHIP over two home starts.
Correia is a very profitable 36-36 (+17.1 Units) against the money line as a road underdog of +100 or higher since 1997. The Twins are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road underdog of +110 to +150. The Braves are 0-4 in their last 4 interleague games, and 2-7 in their last 9 interleague home games. Roll with the Twins Monday.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Milwaukee Brewers Los Angeles Dodgers
-132 at 5dimes
20* MLB Monday No-Doubt Rout on Los Angeles Dodgers -132
The Los Angeles Dodgers should be a much heavier favorite over the Milwaukee Brewers tonight with ace Clayton Kershaw on the mound. They have a huge edge on the rubber over Yovani Gallardo and the Brewers in this one.
Kershaw has gone 4-2 with a 1.40 ERA and 0.871 WHIP through nine starts this season, including 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA and 0.794 WHIP in his last three. The former Cy Young winning has pitched eight shutout innings in two of his last three starts against Milwaukee.
Yovani Gallardo has completely lost it this season. That's probably a big reason why he got a DWI earlier this year. Gallardo has gone 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 1.462 WHIP through nine starts in 2013. He is also 1-3 with a 6.21 ERA and 1.487 WHIP in six career starts against Los Angeles.
Kershaw is 16-2 (+12.2 Units) against the money line when playing against a bad team (Win Pct. 38% to 46%) over the last 2 seasons. The Brewers are 0-8 in their last 8 games vs. a left-handed starter. Milwaukee is 0-6 in its last 6 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. These three trends combine for a 30-2 system backing Los Angeles. Bet the Dodgers Monday.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Colorado Rockies Arizona Diamondbacks
-109 at BetOnline
15* MLB Mound Mismatch PLAY OF THE DAY on Arizona Diamondbacks -109
Arizona starter Patrick Corbin has been one of the most underrated starters in the league all season. He continues to get overlooked by oddsmakers tonight as only a small favorite over the washed up Jon Garland and the Colorado Rockies.
Corbin has gone 6-0 with a 1.52 ERA and 1.069 WHIP over eight starts in 2013, and the Diamondbacks are a perfect 8-0 in those eight contests. The left-hander is also 3-0 with a 0.89 ERA and 1.082 WHIP over his last three starts.
Jon Garland is far past his prime. The veteran right-hander is 3-4 with a 4.69 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in eight starts this season, including 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.733 WHIP in his last three.
Corbin is 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in his last two starts against Arizona, allowing three earned runs over 13 2/3 innings of work. Garland is 3-4 with a 5.12 ERA and 1.471 WHIP in nine career starts against Arizona. He allowed four runs, three earned, and 10 base runners over 6 innings in a 2-4 loss at Arizona on April 28th.
Corbin is 9-0 (+9.4 Units) against the money line after giving up <=2 earned runs in his last 2 outings over the last 2 seasons. The Diamondbacks are 11-1 in Corbin's last 12 starts overall. Take Arizona Monday. -

Game: Philadelphia at Miami (7:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: Miami +1.5 runs -110 (runline)
The wins haven't come easy for either team here, and neither have the runs. The Phillies offense, once one of the best in baseball, has aged into becoming sub-par as they have scored three runs or less in 24 games on the season, making them a ripe candidate on the road to fade on the runline. The Phillies have already been shutout six times on the season. The Marlins' pitching has been superb, allowing a single run in each of their last two games, and the Phillies have been brutal behind Hamels, where they are 1-8 in his last nine starts, and 0-6 vs. a team that scored two or less in their last game. The Marlins are 5-0 behind Sanbia when he pitches following his team allowing two or less in their last game. Runs will be at a premium here, play on Miami on the runline. -

4-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 9.5 Arizona at Colorado (8:40 p.m., Monday, May 20)
3-Unit Play. Take #957 Arizona (-105) over Colorado (8:40 p.m., Monday, May 20)
I really like Arizona tonight. This should be a very hard fought series. But I am giving the Diamondbacks the upper hand. Arizona is 13-8 on the road this year and played well in Miami over the weekend. The Diamondbacks have won four of five in this series and they have a big pitching advantage today. Patrick Corbin is 8-0 in his eight starts this year and has just a 1.52 ERA. Arizona has won 11 of his last 12 starts. Jon Garland has a 4.89 ERA for the Rockies and he has looked average. The 'under' has gone 9-1-1 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams. And it is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Colorado. The 'under' is 13-5-2 when Arizona plays a team with a winning record and 5-2 in Corbin's last seven starts overall. I am going to continue to back the young lefty here. I think he is going to lead Arizona to a win and keep this one low scoring.
3-Unit Play. Take #955 L.A. Dodgers (-135) over Milwaukee (8 p.m., Monday, May 20)
I am going with the Dodgers in this game. They are going with ace Clayton Kershaw and he is what they need to stop their losing streak. Kershaw has a 1.40 ERA on the seson and just a 0.79 ERA in his last three starts. He has been much better than Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo. The Brewers are back home after a terrible road trip and they have lost eight of 10 games. Milwaukee was beaten down by rival St. Louis and I think that one will stick with them. The Dodgers took two of three from Milwaukee when they played in California earlier this year and I think that they will get another series win here this week. Take Kershaw. -

Doc's Sports
2-unit Play Take #962 San Francisco Giants (-135) over Washington Nationals (10:15pm ET) It's been a tough year for San Francisco's Ryan Vogelsong. At 1-4 with an 8.06 ERA and 1.84 WHIP he's been one of the worst pitchers in the National League. Manager Bruce Bochy has already hinted that this might be his last chance to save his job in the rotation. Vogelsong has never been a great pitcher, but has always gotten the job done and put up decent numbers over the course of his career. He's 35-years old, so he's obviously past his prime, but I think he can get it together and still be effective for the Giants. His peripheral numbers indicate an ERA in the mid-4's, so he is obviously experiencing some bad luck during this stretch. He's pitching at home today and that's where he's been most comfortable over the last few seasons. He'll face a Nationals lineup that hasn't been able to produce much this season. Washington is 13th in runs scored in the league and they're without Jayson Werth and maybe Bryce Harper today. Washington is just 3-6 in their last nine games and this will be their fourth different city in nine days. They're also going with reliever Zach Duke as their starting pitcher today to replace the injured Ross Detwiler. Duke has an 8.40 ERA in nine relief appearances this season and barely made the Washington roster to begin with. He's only pitched one complete season over the last four years, so he's obviously struggled to keep it together recently. I like Vogelsong to come up with a strong start today and get the win over the Nationals.

Monday freebie is the Twins-Braves Under the total.
Minnesota heads south to Turner Field having played Under the total in 4 of their last 7 games, while Atlanta is on a protracted 35-16-1 Under run their last 52 games played at Turner Field, including a 4-2-1 Under clip their last 7 games played overall.
Minny starter Kevin Correia has been slumping of late, but perhaps a return to the National League against a team he is 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA against will help him regain his form.
Braves hurler Julio Teheran sports a 2.84 ERA over his last 4 starts, and should be able to keep the Twins bats off-balance tonight.
Twins-Braves to hold low on Monday night.

The Red Sox lost their opener on this roadtrip at Tampa Bay but when on to win the final two games of that series and then swept the Twins over the weekend to make it five straight victories. They are now 14-7 on the road for the season which is tied with the Cardinals for the best road record in baseball. They continue to be the surprise in baseball while Jon Lester continues his solid comeback. After posting a 4.82 ERA in 33 starts last season, he has come strong out of the gate this year and has not slowed up. He has a 2.72 ERA through nine starts and has yet to lose, going 6-0 with the Red Sox going 7-2 in his nine outings. It may not seem plausible to go against him but he has had his share of troubles against the White Sox as he has a 5.20 career ERA against them including a 7.22 ERA in the last five. Chicago opened its most recent roadtrip with a 4-1 record but lost the final two games against the Angels as the pitching was pounded for 18 runs over the weekend after allowing just 10 runs total in its previous four games. Overall, the pitching has been the strength as the White Sox have a 3.12 ERA at home including a 2.86 ERA from the starters. Dylan Axelrod is part of that success as he has a 3.42 ERA at home in four starts with only one of those being a bad outing. His first three starts at home resulted in a 2.04 ERA and he came up just one-third of an inning short in his opener for all three of those resulting in quality starts. He faced Boston once last season and allowed just one run on seven hits in 6.2 innings. Going back to last season, he has allowed three runs or fewer in eight of his last 10 starts. Take: (968) BALTIMORE ORIOLES
Our play against the Yankees Sunday got rained out, but we are coming right back and going against them here on Monday. Not really sure how they have done it, but the Yankees are in first place in the AL East. They have accomplished this without most of their star players, who remain on the injured list. One thing is for sure, it's not a dominant hitting attack, as the Yankees are sixth from the bottom of the AL in runs/game (4.21) and below the league average in batting average (.252). Pitching has been good for the Yankees, ranked 2nd in the league in ERA (3.74) and fifth in WHIP (1.258). Still the injuries mount for NY. With Kevin Youklis (15 dl), Derek Jeter (60 day DL), Alex Rodriquez (60 day DL), Mark Teixeira (60 day DL) all still missing from the lineup. Now the pitching staff has seen Andy Pettitte (Trap) and IVan Nov (Tricep) also land on the 15-day DL. The Orioles had a very good April, going 16-11 and staying close to first place in the AL East. However, May hasn't been as kind, seeing the O's go just 7-9 and losers of five straight after Sunday's setback to the Rays, 3-1. Still, big edge here today in hitting to the O's who are 3rd in baseball in runs scored, fifth in batting average and fifth in slugging. Like I said yesterday, the Yankees are not going to run away from anyone with their offense. So we have value with the O's knowing they will be in this one to the end. Take Baltimore here on Monday. -

BOSTON RED SOX v CHICAGO WHITE SOX
John Lester is having a great year. He's 6-0, comes off a seven-inning, two-run outing against the Rays in his last start, and other teams are hitting just .193 against him on the season. He is 3-0 with a 3.48 ERA on the road.
Dylan Axelrod got his first win of the season last out going 5 1/3 innings
against the Twins. He left in the sixth inning that day favoring his
right leg and that could spell trouble for him today.
Pitchers:
BOSTON RED SOX: JON LESTER (L) ERA: 2.72 W/L: 6-0
CHICAGO WHITE SOX: DYLAN AXELROD (R) ERA: 4.27 W/L: 1-3
Key Trends:
Boston is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
Boston is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games on the road
Boston is 8-2 SU in their last 10 games when playing Chi White Sox
Boston is 5-1 SU in their last 6 games when playing on the road against Chi White Sox
Chi White Sox are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games at home

On Monday the free play is on the LA. Dodgers. Game 955 at 8:10 eastern. The Dodgers will look to put an end to their losing streak tonight and they have the Man on the mound to do it. Clayton Kershaw goes for LA and he has a stellar 1.40 era this season. In his last start here he went 8 score less innings. Tonight he will oppose Y. Gallardo who has yet to hit his best stride. Gallardo has a 4.50 Home era and 5.09 over his last 3 starts. His Life time era vs the Dodgers is also elevated at 6.21. The Dodgers fit a nice 75% system here tonight that plays on road favorites off a road loss and scored 2 or less runs with 4 or less hits, vs an opponent off a road loss that had 10 or more hits. The Dodgers have won 5 of the last 7 here. The Brewers are in the midst of a rough month going 3-14 in May. In games vs left handed pitchers they are 4-12. We will go with the better numbers here and Take the Dodgers as our free play -

Braves Pitchers Stellar at Home, Poor on the Road
The Atlanta Braves have only played 17 of their first 42 games at home and have a ton of contests coming up at Turner Field.
That’s important for bettors to know because Braves pitchers have been dominant at home early and not so impressive away from the friendly confines of Turner Field.
Atlanta pitchers boast a 2.54 ERA at home and are holding opposing hitters to a .215 batting average. Conversely, Braves hurlers have a combined 4.06 ERA away from the Peach State and the opposition is hitting a much better .264 against them.
No pitcher exemplifies this trend better than staff ace Tim Hudson. The veteran righty is 3-0 in four home starts with a 2.84 ERA, but has struggled mightily on the road with a 1-3 record and 7.36 ERA. Hudson is projected to take the hill Tuesday vs. the Minnesota Twins.
Bettors have been cashing in on Atlanta’s 16-9-1 over/under mark away from home, but that number stabilizes to a more modest 8-9 O/U at Turner Field.
The Braves only play five (three in New York and two in Toronto) of their next 16 games away from Turner Field. -

ART ARONSON
This is a 1* free play on the "over" between the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers on Monday night (8:05 EST).
The 39-year old Bartolo Colon (3-2, 4.56 ERA) toes the rubber for the visitors; Colon faced the Rangers last Tuesday and gave up three runs off four hits with a walk and zero K's over six frames of work, settling for a no-decision in the end. The veteran will be opposed by the 25-year old Josh Lindblom (3-5, 3.55 ERA) who was called up from Triple-A Round Rock after Alexi Ogando was moved to the DL. Lindblom had success in the minors but has yet to prove himself in any extended manner in the bigs. Note that the A's have seen the total go "over" the number in 29 of 44 so far this year, which includes in 15 of 22 on the road. Suspect starters vs. explosive line-ups; the stage is set for a slugfest in the opener of this three game set. -

Sunday Night Baseball Tigers at Rangers by Steve Merril The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers take the spotlight this week on Sunday Night Baseball. Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers (-115, 9) FISTING FOR VICTORIES Doug Fister has been stellar for the Tigers, going 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA on the year. He'll face a Texas team that hit him up for nine runs over 4 1/3 innings in their only meeting last year. The righty has made four road starts this season and he's 1-1 in those games. He got shelled in Washington in the shortest start of his career giving up five runs and eight hits in three innings. Fister has benefited from seeing Houston in two of his last three starts, snagging a victory at home and a no-decision on the road. HOLLAND TUNNEL IN TEXAS Derek Holland is 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA this season. He has pitched well in May going 2-0 with a 2.18 ERA. The southpaw hasn't had many problems pitching at home this year, going 1-1 with a 1.57 ERA in three starts there. Holland has shown incredible control walking just three batters in his last four starts. Last year he picked up a no-decision against the Tigers after giving up one run and three hits while striking out nine in a 2-1 Rangers victory. INJURY REPORT The Tigers are almost completely healthy as a team. They are without Austin Jackson, who is on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring and Octavio Dotel, who is dealing with right elbow inflammation. The list is a bit longer for the Rangers. Their lineup is relatively intact as AJ Pierzynski is dealing with a strained right oblique muscle. He will return hopefully on Tuesday for their game against the Athletics. The Texas pitching staff is a different story. Matt Harrison, Alexi Ogando, Colby Lewis and Neftali Feliz are all out of the rotation while Joakim Soria has not pitched yet out of the team's bullpen. Those pitchers are expected to be back at varying times between May and August. TRENDS Tigers are 50-22 in their last 72 Sunday games Tigers are 6-2 in Fister's last eight starts Rangers are 37-18 in their last 55 Sunday games Rangers are 35-16 in Holland’s last 51 home starts HITTERS TO WATCH Torii Hunter 10-for-34 vs. Holland Miguel Cabrera 0-for-5 vs. Holland Elvis Andrus 4-for-22 vs. Fister Nelson Cruz 7-for-16 vs. Fister

4-unit Play Take #928 Texas Rangers (-115) over Detroit Tigers (8:05pm ET) It's the ESPN Sunday Night Game of the Week, and we have a good one. Derek Holland and the Texas Rangers host the Detroit Tigers in a battle between division leaders. Holland has really elevated his game in 2013, improving from a 4.67 ERA last season to a 2.93 ERA this season. He's done it by increasing his strikeout rate and significantly reducing his walk totals. Manager Ron Washington has pointed to Holland's enhanced work ethic as the reason for his success. Right now the confidence level for the 26-year old is at an all-time high and that will come in handy against a difficult Detroit lineup. The Tigers lead the American League in runs scored, but they don't have a lineup built to hit lefties very well. The Tigers have also had some trouble scoring runs in Arlington, especially in this series where they've averaged only 2.7 runs per game in the first three contests. The Rangers have averaged 6.0 runs in this series. Right-hander Doug Fister goes for the Tigers and he's as steady as they come, but hasn't been dominant in 2013. The Rangers lineup is not easy to navigate either and they've been swinging it well of late. In their last eight games, the Rangers have averaged 6.4 runs per game. This should be a fun game to watch, but I like Holland over Fister and the way that the Rangers are swinging the bats. -

3 Unit Play Take #928 Texas -117 over Detroit (8:05pm est):
The Texas Rangers have looked like the much better of these two teams during this series so far with two easy wins by five or more runs while their lone loss was a tough one run defeat. They have outscored the Tigers 18-7 in the first three games overall. The Rangers have the best record in the American League at home this season and face a Tigers team who is under .500 on the road.
Derek Holland gets the call here for Texas and Holland has been a guy we have done very well backing this season. He comes in with an ERA of just 2.93 and a WHIP of of only 1.07. Those numbers have been even more impressive at home with a 1.57 ERA and a WHIP below 1.00 at just 0.96 with all three home starts this year being at least seven innings pitched and allowing two or less runs in each of the three home contests and doing so against some of the better offenses in baseball also (Red Sox, Rays and Angels).
The Detroit Tigers just don't look like the same baseball team without their center fielder and leadoff man Austin Jackson on the field. Jackson went on the disabled list about a week ago and since then Detroit has struggled going just 3-4 overall but two of those wins came against the hapless Houston Astros. Even more disturbing is that in the non-Houston games the Tigers have averaged just 2.5 runs per game in their four other contests and haven't scored over four runs in any of those games also.
Take Texas here in this one. My NBA post-season results have fallen right in line with all my 2013 NBA plays, a almost unheard of 60% win rate overall which is top standard in this industry. Keep in mind this also over a nice large sample size of 100 plays overall for the year. Join me the rest of the pro hoops playoffs and lets make some money.
Thank you and good luck, -

4-Unit Play. Take #915 Seattle (-105) over Cleveland (1 p.m., Sunday, May 19)
I will go with the Mariners today. Felix Hernandez is on the mound and he will snap them out of this losing skid. Seattle barely lost the last two games. They lost both in late innings on walk-off hits. I think Seattle is going to avoid losing three in a row and they are getting the sharp money today. This line has moved from the Mariners being small underdogs to being a small favorite. It could get to -110 or -115. The Mariners are 12-4 when Hernandez starts as a road favorite.
2-Unit Play. Take #923 Chicago White Sox (+105) over L.A. Angels (4 p.m., Sunday, May 19)
The White Sox lost 12-9 yesterday. But they still have revenge for losing a home series to the Angels last week. They are going with Jake Peavy today and he will get the job done to wrap up this series. Peavy is 5-2 in his seven starts this year and has an ERA under 3.00. The Angels are 2-6 in their last eight home games and 2-7 in their last nine games after a win. -

COLORADO -1½ +164 over San Francisco
The Giants have to be feeling exhausted right about now. They lost yesterday by a final score of 10-2. The Giants have now been tagged for 47 runs against in their last five games and 10 runs or more against in four of those five. It’s one thing to lose a game but it’s quite another to be down by such crooked numbers early and end up having to play a marathon game when you’re down by five or six runs. In Barry Zito’s last start in Toronto, the Giants were down 6-0 after one inning. The next night in Toronto also, they were down 5-1 after one inning and 10-1 after three innings. Things haven’t been much better in Colorado, where the Giants were down 9-5 after five innings on Friday and down 6-1 after five innings yesterday. Playing in the high altitude in Denver is tiring enough, playing their fourth straight game there after allowing 47 runs against over their past five games, San Fran’s and it’s bullpen figures to running on fumes here.
We’ve been writing about how bad Barry Zito is for years. He’s not only been baseball’s luckiest pitcher for 2 years running, his skills are getting worse, not better. The Legend of Barry Zito made a wonderful story during the summer of 2012 that continued this spring and into the first six weeks, as he returned to relevance. But has he? No, he has not. A line-drive rate of 28% this season indicates that hitters have no problem squaring Zito up.
The big-two overall metrics that wrap up the individual items, xERA (5.75) and groundball rate (36%) are again far below desired levels. Expected ERA, in fact, is worse this year than any season since 2008. Zito gets credit for seeing his contract through and continuing to try to justify his lofty price tag but that doesn’t mean he’s an asset; the metrics tell us just the opposite. Zito’s 3.40 ERA is unsustainable. In three road starts in Milwaukee, San Diego and Toronto, Zito has lasted a combined 12 innings has allowed 26 hits and 20 earned runs for a road ERA of 11.25 and a road BAA of .426. At this park against this team, he’s going to get crushed again and with an already taxed bullpen, manager Bruce Bochy is likely going to leave Zito in there longer than he normally would.
Micro-fracture knee surgery in July ended Juan Nicasio’s season a year ago, curtailing his comeback from a fractured vertebrae that ended 2011. Between injuries, he has demonstrated a promising high-strikeout rate and a groundball-tilted profile that xERA likes. Poor results + injury history + latent skills = a potential profit candidate. Nicasio’s shelf time has prevented him from making use of his 94 mph fastball, a pitch that has given him his fair share of K’s. That said, there are warning signs in addition to his poor durability. His 7.3% swinging strike rate doesn't support a high strikeout rate and he's a two-pitch pitcher. In eight starts, Nicasio has made it past the fifth inning just two times. He’s unlikely to go past five innings again here because he’s not strong enough to do so. This one looks like another slugfest and if the Giants end up winning this game, we can almost assure you that’s it’s going to be a high scoring affair. It’s for that reason that we’ll play this game over the number as well as taking the Rockies on the run line.
Milwaukee +111 over ST. LOUIS
The Brewers rallied from six runs down on Friday in the opener of this series before losing it 7-6. They rebounded yesterday with an extra inning victory and have showed some real fight in them in the two games so far. The Brewers now get the most favorable matchup of the three games here. Kyle Lohse has had nothing but success at this park, where he went 9-1 with the Cardinals last year with an ERA of 2.30. Lohse has pinpoint control (10 BB in 49 IP), a groundball bias profile and his strikeout rate is up a tick (33 K’s). These skills allow Lohse to usually pitch deep into games and you know for sure he’ll be a little extra amped up for this one.
John Gast, 24 was originally drafted in the 5th round of the '07 draft by Texas but chose instead to go to Florida State University, where he pitched for three seasons before the Cardinals drafted him in the 6th round in '10. Gast systematically has worked his way from Low-A up through the system, advancing one level at some point during each season. He got out to a very fast April 2013 at Triple-A Memphis not allowing an earned run in his five starts. His strikeout rate is a tick higher this season than career norms, as is his control. He is a short, power lefty with a nice 90-93 mph fastball. He will also throw a good change-up and decent curveball. His delivery is nearly max-effort which is troubling for a starter, particularly one who has already had Tommy John surgery early on in their career. This combined with a lack of overpowering stuff could mean a more productive future in the bullpen. In his first career start last week against the Mets, Gast went six full innings and surrendered six hits and four earned runs while walking just one and striking out three. He got the win for his efforts because the Cardinals scored 10 runs. What follows a MLB debut win is usually a letdown and now Gast will face a Brewers club that is hitting a robust .282 against lefties this season. Chances are the Brew Crew will get to this rookie and that makes this visitor a worthwhile investment.
SAN DIEGO -½ +114 over Washington
1st 5 innings. The Nationals are perceived as the much better team and will probably draw a lot of attention in this matchup because that and because they are taking back a tag. Dan Haren is also a more well-known pitcher than Andrew Cashner and Haren brings a strong reputation with him. What may surprise you is that the Padres are better than the Nationals in just about every key category, including team batting average, stolen bases, defense and they also have a deeper bench. Dan Haren has pinpoint control with just six walks in 45 frames but that’s about all he has. Haren’s fastball has trouble breaking 90 mph now. His swinging strike rate trend during the last four seasons says to heed caution: 10.7%, 10.1%, 9.9%, 8.7%, 7.5%. Haren also has a rather ugly 35%/22%/43% GB/LD/FB batted ball profile and while his pinpoint control does give him less blowup risk than most average pitchers, his upside is long gone and even a 4.50 ERA might be a stretch now. Haren has three pure quality starts in eight attempts this season and should not be viewed as a good pitcher anymore.
Andrew Cashner went 3-4 last year with a 4.27 ERA in 46 IP. He transitioned from relief to starter then lost 60 days to a lat strain (after rotator cuff injury washed out 2011). Cashner’s health poses questions, skills not so much. The kid throws gas; had 23/3 K/BB in 19 IP as starter and he induces grounders. If body parts cooperate, he’s a definite breakout candidate. We’re not sure people realize how good this kid really is. In five starts this season, Cashner's fastball velocity has averaged 94.8 MPH, second only to Stephen Strasburg among NL starters. His fastball has good movement and has reached 98 MPH on several occasions. He's a work in progress, for sure, but a talented work and he’s coming on with just one runs allowed over his past 14.1 innings and that includes a 7.1 inning gem at Baltimore. Cashner will now face a Nationals team that is hitting just .226 over the past 15 games. The Padres are very likely going to do some damage against Haren while Cashner has the ability to make quick work of these light hitting Nats and therefore we’ll play this one in the first five innings. -

#918 4* New York Yankees with Sabathia ML -130 (1:05 edt)<p>
Sabathia owns the Blue Jays with a career record of 14-4 against them and with Toronto sitting at 4-8 against lefties is only helps the Yankees here. New York traditionally beats up Toronto winning 19 of the last 23 in this series at home. Dickey has not been all that great this season after his big season last year and the Jays have been terrible in the division this season. It all adds up to a New York win here, thank you and good luck. -

Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers
Pick: Texas Rangers
The Rangers are 8-2 in their last 10 games overall, and they're 37-18 in their last 55 Sunday games. The Detroit Tigers do not fair too well down south as they're 3-10 in their last 12 meetings vs. Texas. The Rangers are up in the series 2-1 and will look to complete the series win on Sunday in prime time on ESPN. Play the Rangers.

15* AL Sunday PLAY OF THE DAY on Seattle Mariners -109
Rarely will you ever get Felix Hernandez at this kind of price. I'll gladly take advantage Sunday as he's only a small favorite over the Cleveland Indians.
This is one of the best starters in the league. Year in and year out, Hernandez goes under the radar because he pitches in Seattle. Hernandez is 5-2 with a 1.53 ERA in nine starts this season, including 4-1 with a 1.29 ERA on the road.
Seattle is 9-1 (+9.3 Units) against the money line with double revenge - 2 straight losses against opponent this season. After losing the first two games of this series, I look for the Mariners to bounce back in Game 3. Roll with the Mariners Sunday.

15* NL Sunday PLAY OF THE DAY on New York Mets +142
The New York Mets are showing their best value of the season Sunday. The Chicago Cubs shouldn't be this heavily favored against anyone, even the Mets.
Dillon Gee is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.263 WHIP in three career starts against the Cubs. In his last start against Chicago, Gee gave up one earned run over eight innings of a 3-1 victory.
Travis Wood is 6-17 (-12.5 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with a team batting average of .255 or worse over the last 3 seasons. Chicago is 40-76 (-32.7 Units) against the money line after having won 2 of their last 3 games over the last 3 seasons. Take the Cubs Sunday.

Braves Pitchers Stellar at Home, Poor on the Road
The Atlanta Braves have only played 15 of their first 41 games at home and have a ton of contests coming up at Turner Field.
That’s important for bettors to know because Braves pitchers have been dominant at home early and not so impressive away from the friendly confines of Turner Field.
Atlanta pitchers boast a 2.71 ERA at home and are holding opposing hitters to a .222 batting average.
Bettors have been cashing in on Atlanta’s 16-9-1 over/under mark away from home, but that number stabilizes to a more modest 8-7 O/U at Turner Field.
Atlanta hitters have blasted 22 homers in the club’s 15 home games to date and have driven in 67 runs. The offensive outburst is a major reason why the under isn’t cashing during Atlanta’s home games despite it getting solid pitching.
The Braves only play five (three in New York and two in Toronto) of their next 18 games away from Turner Field.
All stats prior to action Saturday.
LAD/Atlanta over 4 even: If there was any indication Atlanta (23-18) who began a 3 game series with the LA Dodgers (17-23) this weekend has busted it out of its offensive woes, they may be able to withstand competition from the rival Nationals from taking over first place in the NL East for awhile. The Braves played 26 of their last 34 games away from Turner Field before last night and lost 5 of their last 6 until Justin Upton took matters into his own hands. Upton hit his 14th homer of the season, a grand slam while driving in 5 helping the Braves to an 8-5 win over the Dodgers taking game 1 of the series. Upton also leads Atlanta in RBIs with 28, runs scored (32) and hits (41) while batting .285. The slam gave Atlanta 53 HR collectively which ranks 4th in the majors, and the resurgence doesn't bode well for Dodgers starter Chris Capuano (1-2 6.60) who pitched well last weekend. Capuano allowed just a run on 5 hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 5-3 win over Miami last time out. Considering it's good news since he had a couple of rough outings since being activated from the DL several weeks back due to a calf injury. However he may need an equally convincing follow up performance if the Dodgers have a chance to tie the series tonight. Freddie Freeman also missed significant time earlier due to an oblique injury, however has been effective (.299 2 23) in the heart of the Atlanta lineup. Evan Gattis and Dan Uggla are tied for second with 7 long balls, however not nearly as similar success could be said for Justin's brother BJ who is hitting just .141 with 3 HR on the season. Atlanta did get back Jason Heyward last night for the first time since April 20th after undergoing emergency appendectomy surgery. Heyward wasted no time in returning to form going 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. The Bravos counter with Kris Medlen (1-5 3.44) who despite the manageable ERA has dropped 4 straight. Medlen was anything but sharp last time out struggling with control problems and velocity. He walked 5 and gave up a season high 3 HR in a 5-1 loss to San Francisco this past Sunday. To say Medlen could use some much needed run support would be a bit of an understatement considering in 2012 he helped his own cause most of the time while going 10-1 with a 1.57 ERA. The Dodgers are batting .261 overall but have wasted numerous opportunities all season long with RISP. Not a good sign from a team that doesn't have much power throughout the lineup as evident by their 28 HR. Adrian Gonzalez leads the club in hitting (.338) and RBI (27), but other than Carl Crawford (.307 5 11) hasn't had much help. Matt Kemp saw his 14 game hitting streak come to an end last night and has just 1 HR despite his average slowly climbing back to .273. Andre Eithier is also off to a slow start though most feel that the latter two will heat up as the season progresses. Another extremely reasonable price this evening as both teams look to build on promising starts at the plate given game 1's results. We all know that Turner Field isn't exactly the launching pad that favored hitters in the past like Fulton County Stadium, however both teams may be able to pick up where they left off if others can contribute in the heat of hotlanta. Let's look to extend an effective ride which has given us 9 wins in the last 11. Best of luck however you play!

Happy Birthday Ryan!! Hope you are your family have an amazing day. And may all your bets today be winners.
Three streaking pitchers worth a look on the road Saturday Saturday's MLB schedule features a few starters that maybe didn't get off to the best starts in the 2013 season, but might just be turning things around lately. Here is a rundown of some guys on the hill Saturday that have had some recent success on the road. Brandon Morrow, Toronto Blue Jays (1-2, 4.69 ERA) The Jays righty seems to be coming around after a slow start to the season. Morrow has pitched very well in his last three outings with the Jays, victorious in all three. He won his last road start versus the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 6-5. Morrow went 6 1/3 innings giving up three earned runs along the way. The righty takes the hill against the New York Yankees Saturday. Morrow was roughed up by the Yankes earlier in the year giving up five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Brandon McCarthy, Arizona Diamondbacks (0-3, 5.62 ERA) McCarthy is still winless on the season but the Diamondbacks have won the last two games he has started away from home. McCarthy lasted 6 1/3 innings giving up just three earned runs in his last road start versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is also coming off his best pitching performance of the season, going eight strong innings with no earned runs versus the Philadlphia Phillies. McCarthy takes the hill versus the lowly Miami Marlins Saturday. Marco Estrada, Milwaukee Brewers (3-2, 5.32 ERA) The Brew Crew have won three of Estrada's last four starts away from Miller Park and he's given them some quality performances in those games. His last start, on the road in Pittsburgh, was his best of the season. He went seven innings giving up one earned run en route to the 5-1 victory. Milwaukee is on the road to face the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday. Estrada went six innings in his last start at Busch Stadium. The Brewers won 4-3 but he did not factor in the decision
