Boston/Baltimore over 5 -110: While the Boston Red Sox have been known over the years for a powerful lineup, the Baltimore Orioles are showing they will take a back seat to no one this season when it comes to hitting the long ball, not even the Yankees whose bats have been quite sielnt as of late especially with RISP. The AL East rivals wrap up a three-game series Wednesday when the Orioles try to add to their major league-leading home run total at the expense of the Red Sox. Baltimore (28-16) has 67 homers, a total padded by a pair of two-run shots in Tuesday's 4-1 victory. Steve Tolleson staked the Orioles to a lead in the second inning and Wilson Betemit put the game out of reach with his in the eighth. The division-leading Orioles have also delivered those home runs in the clutch - 28 have come in the seventh inning or later - and are 16-3 when hitting two or more. Daniel Bard (3-5, 4.85 ERA) will be charged with the task of slowing down the Orioles while trying to avoid a fourth loss in five starts. The right-hander battled control problems Friday, when he walked five over five innings and allowed five runs - four in the first - of a 6-4 defeat at Philadelphia. The Red Sox (21-22) were denied in their bid to get over .500 for the first time this season in losing for only the third time in 12 games. There was a bright spot as Kevin Youkilis returned to the lineup for the first time since April 29 and homered in his first at-bat. Jake Arrieta (2-4, 4.72) had a needed bounce-back outing Friday for the Orioles but didn't get a win to show for it. The right-hander limited Washington to one run in seven innings and matched a season high with nine strikeouts before the Orioles won 2-1 in 11. He had been tagged for 13 runs and 19 hits in 10 innings in losing his previous two starts. Arrieta has not finished much off versus the Red Sox, going 0-2 with a 5.51 ERA in three lifetime starts. Both losses came last year, when he was roughed up for nine runs and 15 hits in 11 1-3 innings. Both of last night's pitchers depended on solid outings after a game 1 slugfest, however the matinee in the warm soupy air could see a return of the offenses. Boston his hitting .231 collectively and averages about 5.4 rpg, aided by David Ortiz (.325 10 30). Big papi shows no signs of slowing down, while Cody Ross (.271 8 28) and Mike Aviles (.273 8 28) continue to complement a well balanced lineup. That doesn't bode well for Arrieta, who nonetheless will have plenty of run support behind him. Adam Jones (.306 14 29) has been crushing opponents pitching though most of his homers have resulted in the solo variety. Another reason the O's have a 2 game lead over Tampa Bay is equally impressive lineup balance in power, evident in JJ Hardy (.250 9 21) Nick Markakis (.264 8 24) and Matt Wieters (.240 8 21). It's going to be tough for Bard to keep Baltimroe off the scoreboard, so let's cash this puppy early and enjoy the profits heading into the extensive night card. Best of luck however you play!

Anybody here think Boston can make on final championship run and at least make the finals? I know they are OLD, but they still have the talent. I think everybody is overlooking them some. I would love to see them win it one more time before this teams separates.

It basically depends on which Miami team shows up. Last night the Heat were determined to make a statement and apparently have a good chance to close things out tomorrow night in Indiana considering the Pacers have looked flat on both sides of the ball since the second half of game 4. On the flip side you can't count out Philadelphia just yet, as they will look to slow down Boston at home. They cannot be complacent at any stretch since losing their focus in the second half of game 5. If Boston takes control early and doesn't go through significant lapses offensively, they should advance tonight. They have the experience and capability to take out Miami considering their regular season success, but we will have to wait and see as a lot depends on the status of Chris Bosh as well.
The series shifts back to Miami for game 5 against Indiana at 8pm on TNT. GL

Talk about a great matchup. With Heat hurting IMO champ comes from this series. This one goes 6-7 for sure.

I think the series goes the minimum 6 games as well. However, I have to go with experience here as the big 3 of Duncan, Parker and Ginobli will take out Durant, Westbrook and Harden. Popovich and company have won 18 straight games and haven't lost since April 11th, well before the end of the regular season. Series wins over the Jazz and Clippers were cakewalk sweeps. The veteran leadership and no quit fight means no lead against them is safe. OKC has the youth drive and determination, but would have to execute worlds better than what they did against the Lakers since this Spurs bunch can beat you playing up tempo or a tenacious half court defense. Will be interesting to see but no question the winner of these Western Conference finals is hands down the NBA Champ of 2011-12.
Full slate all under the lights. GL

Atlanta/Cincinnati over 5 even: The Atlanta Braves weren't able to get much offense going with Chipper Jones out of the lineup the last two games. They could certainly use him in their next contest. The Braves and Cincinnati Reds open a four-game series Monday night with each team starting a pitcher that ranks among the NL's worst in ERA. After splitting a two-game set with Miami, Atlanta (26-16) opened its seven-game road trip by taking two of three against Tampa Bay. Tim Hudson outpitched David Price in a 2-0 win Sunday and got all the support he needed from David Ross' third-inning homer. Jones, who is batting .307 this season with five homers and 24 RBIs, had two hits and drove in a run as Atlanta and Cincinnati split a pair of games last week. The Reds (21-19) finished their seven-game trip with a winning record after taking the final two against the Yankees. Ryan Ludwick had a solo homer among his three hits and drove in three in a 5-2 victory Sunday. Ryan Hanigan also hit a solo home run for the Reds, who will be playing at home Monday for only the fourth time in a 17-game stretch. Monday should be a big game at the plate for both teams. Atlanta's Mike Minor (2-3, 7.09 ERA) has the second-highest ERA among NL pitchers with at least 37 innings, while Cincinnati's Mike Leake (0-5, 6.21) is fourth. Minor is trying to stay in the rotation after getting hit hard in four straight starts. He has allowed six or more runs in five of his eight outings this year, including four in a row - the first Braves starter to do so since John Thompson in 2006. Leake hasn't had much better luck this season, although he's coming off his strongest start of the year. Leake allowed three runs - a season-low one earned - in six innings of a 6-3 win over the Mets on Wednesday. He failed to make it through the fourth inning in two of his previous three starts and had allowed a season high-tying six runs in his previous appearance. We get a relatively cheap price here, and given the way Atlanta has busted out of the gate overtaking Washington for first place in the NL East, we feel good about both offenses making their mark against 2 pitchers struggling to find a consistent rhythm. Freddie Freeman (.268 7 32) has picked up where he left off from last year's runner up rookie campaign. Jones is looking to have a farewell campaign that will send the Braves to the postseason once again hitting .307 with 5 HR. The future HOF'er has also driven in 24 runs as have Dan Uggla and Brian McCann. On the flip side, taking 2 of 3 from the Yankees this weekend has renowned confidence in the Redlegs bats, particularly Jay Bruce, whose 10 Hr and 27 RBi are complimentary to his .276 mark. Joey Votto also continues to have a solid season (.301 7 28) and the middle of the lineup will need to be productive for us to help cash this evening. We look to start another winning streak tonight. Best of luck however you play!

What started out looking good, then looked like it was going to lose looked good again in the bottom of the 4th, and ended up with a push. Can't complain but the Atlanta offense or lackthereof kept this from cashing. Back up Tuesday.
