NFL WildCard Picks:

Philadelphia @ Dallas—Wild Card Game

The Eagles and the Cowboys also met in the last week of the season just like the Packers and the Cardinals. The result was a convincing win by the Cowboys and because of it the Eagles went floundering from once superbowl favorites to now the 6th seed in the NFC.

The Eagles have been a very streaky team this year. They had a few great winning streaks and had to fight through injuries to get to the playoffs. They injected the youth they received in an excellent draft and scored on big plays but the one thing they have yet to be able to solve is the key to beating the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys had a tumultuous start to the season and it looked as though there was not a chance they would make it to the playoffs. However they turned it around late season led by Tony Romo and Miles Austin and won some huge games down the stretch against the Saints and the Eagles. Now they have to take on the Eagles one last time and beating this team three times in a row will not be easy!

The Eagles were demoralized by this loss and if they ever needed motivation to do well in the playoffs this should be it. Philadelphia has been extremely resilient in the past, cashing the ticket in 18 of 22 chances after losing by 21 points or more and cashing 14 of 18 on the road avenging a loss where the team scored less than 14. The Eagles may not pull out the win in this game but this line is inflated after the tough loss last week. Take the Eagles and the points.

Green Bay @ Arizona—Wild Card Game

The season ended with the Green Bay Packers trouncing the Arizona Cardinals at home to take the season ending finale and finish at 11-5 on the season. This game did not mean much for the Cardinals so the final score may not be indicative of how these teams will match up for week one in the NFL playoffs when they meet in the wild card game.

The Green Bay Packers started the season in the shadow of Brett Favre going to Minnesota and after losing twice to #4 during the regular season they looked like they were going to pass on the playoffs. Aaron Rodgers took the reigns and put up some outstanding numbers. The defense managed to get turnovers at a great number and the defense finally played up to the temp of the great offense and at 11-5 the Packers are in.

They will face the Cardinals. The Cardinals played in the superbowl last year so it was no surprise that they are back again this year. Playing in the NFC West only helped as the Cardinals were the class of the west. This year they played much better on the road than they had in the past but it was the home games where they struggled. They will have to make sure they are ready for this Packers team if they want to advance in the playoffs.

The game on Sunday is not a good measuring stick of the Arizona Cardinals. With the Vikings win they knew they had nothing to play for and will have plenty left in the tank when they take on Green Bay at home this weekend. The Packers struggle in the opening round. They have failed to cash five of their last seven postseason tests and are 1-3-1 ATS in the opening round. The Cardinals are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games as a home favorite of 0.5-3.0 and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up loss of more than 14 points. The Cardinals will get to Rodgers and will use the experience from last year to win this game.

Play: Arizona -2

New York Jets vs. Cincinnati Bengals—Wild Card Game

The season ended with the Bengals going into New York and the Jets needed the game to get into the playoffs and the Bengals could improve their spot in the playoffs. It was evident quite quickly that they Bengals threw in the towel. Why improve their spot to play the Texans, a team that already beat them? Instead they kept the game vanilla and got pounded by the Jets. Will the same thing happen this week?

The Bengals surprised many of the experts by having a great season. They swept through the Steelers and the Ravens on the way to a title in the AFC North. They did it with a surprising defense and a rebirth of Cedric Benson at running back. He rushed for over 1,000 yards and now the Bengals will host a playoff game against Mark Sanchez and the Jets.

The season started very promising for the New York Jets as they had the steal of the draft grabbing Mark Sanchez. With a new head coach and a young gunslinger the Jets surprised some teams and notched plenty of early season victories. They hit a swoon but rebounded with the help of the league’s best rushing attack and the league’s best defense to sneak in as a wild card and play the Bengals this weekend.

The game last Sunday cannot be used as a measuring stick to judge this week’s game but the Bengals have to feel some pressure to win this game. The Bengals get back one of the best run stoppers and will stack the box and put the pressure on Sanchez to make plays and this should lead to turnovers. The Jets are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game and the Bengals are 7-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. New York has dropped 10 of 12 spread decisions off back-to-back double-digit wins and will keep this close but in the end the edge goes to the home team.

Play: Bengals -2.5

Baltimore @ New England—Wild Card Game

The Ravens had to win a game on the road against the Raiders in the final game of the season to clinch a playoff berth. For the Patriots they had a spot in the playoffs but played for a seeding and during the game against the Texans they lost Wes Welker with a knee injury and it’s too early to tell what kind of role that will play as the Patriots attempt to advance in the playoffs.

The Ravens had a very tough division to try and get out of as they had to deal with the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers and the upstart Cincinnati Bengals. They managed to survive and with a balanced offensive attack and some veterans on defense they are ready to make some noise in the wild card game when they travel to New England.

The Patriots are no strangers to the playoffs but they realize they are not the dominating team from years past. They still have the excellent offense but the defense has looked suspect at time giving up big plays in big games. The injury to Wes Welker could prove to be a huge loss for the offense and this game could be one of the best games of the first round.

The injury to Welker will be missed but the Patriots just reload and youngster Julian Edelman can perform well in his absence. While he is not the same he can help fill a void. The Patriots playing in front of the home crowd will really help this team out. The Patriots have won and covered three straight versus Baltimore at home. They took care of business on Oct. 4 as three-point favorites in Foxboro, 27-21. New England has cashed 21 of 25 when playing against a marginal winning team (win percentage of 56 to 60 %) in the second half of the season. The Patriots are 21-7-1 ATS off a straight up loss. The Ravens have stumbled in seven of their last nine games in January ATS and will be kicked out in the first round against the Patriots.

Play: Patriots -3.5
