NFL Conference Championship Playoff Picks:

Minnesota @ New Orleans

The NFC Championship is all set and the storyline is perfect as the surprising Saints match up against Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. The winner will punch their ticket to the Superbowl.

The Vikings proved the old adage that defense wins ballgames. Their defense quieted the Dallas Cowboys and Brett Favre showed he could still play at 40 as he zipped touchdowns all over the field. The impressive 34-3 win was more than enough to advance to the NFC Championship game against the Saints in New Orleans.

The Saints had to get past the Arizona Cardinals and things looked bleak when they gave up a long touchdown to start the game. However that was about all the scoring punch that the Saints would allow. The normal explosive offense did its thing led by Reggie Bush, but it was the Saints defense that actually played a great game to include knocking out QB Kurt Warner. For their valiant effort the Saints will host their first NFC Championship game ever!

The Vikings looked great last week but they are a different team on the road. The Saints not only looked good on offense last week but great on defense and that will be the difference in this game. The Superdome is the loudest place in the league and provides a distinct home-field advantage for the Saints. Minnesota will be bucking several negative trends, not the least of which is its 3-7 mark as underdogs. The Vikings have floundered in 12 of 17 as road pups in the postseason and they are 8-17-1 ATS off a SU win by 14 points or more.New Orleans has cashed six of seven as home favorites of 3 ½ to 10 points. The Saints snapped a four-game playoff ATS skid in the Big Easy last week with their rout of Dallas. They are 9-3-1 ATS off a spread success. The Saints go to their very first Superbowl ever and finally reward a city that has been through so much with a trip to the Superbowl!

NY Jets @ Inidnapolis

An underdog finally broke through during the divisional playoffs and it will be the Cinderella New York Jets taking on the experienced Indianapolis Colts. The Colts will host the AFC championship game and the winner will go to the Superbowl.

The Colts ran over the Ravens on their way to the Championship game. The Colts defense looked like world beaters as they stuffed the run and frustrated Joe Flacco. Peyton Manning had his usual cool and led enough scoring to send the Ravens home for another year.

The Jets managed to shock the world. It was surprising enough that they defeated the Bengals but they raised the bar even higher traveling across country to dump the hottest team in the NFL, the San Diego Chargers. The jets used a combination of defense and rushing to advance to the next round against the Colts.

The Jets have been disrespected and counted out by just about everyone in the league when it comes to the playoffs. It looks like the oddsmakers expect the same treatment as they opened the Jets up as 7.5 point pups against the Colts in the Championship game. The Jets have won and covered seven of their last 10 on the road, grabbing the green in their last five. In addition, they have won and cashed two of three under a dome and are eight of 12 as short-enders on the playoff highway. New York is 5-1 as pups of 3 ½ to 10 points and 8-2 ATS on the road when facing teams on the plus side of the ledger. Mark Sanchez is starting to come into this own and it could not be at a better time, the jets have a shot at the shocker and taking the points is the only way to go.
