Opening Line: Bears -2.5 , Total 41
The Denver Broncos are only 5-5 but in the weak AFC West that is good enough for first place. The Bears are 4-6 but in the NFC North that is not nearly good enough. The Broncos have a shot at the playoffs while Chicago must win on Sunday to keep any reasonable chances alive. The Broncos suddenly have an offense led by quarterback Jay Cutler. They have scored 61 points in winning their last two games. Last week against Tennessee, Cutler threw for 200 yards and two TD’s. "He works at it and puts in a lot of great effort and shows a lot of poise," Denver coach Mike Shanahan said. "He has the ability to make the plays in the clutch. Those are the characteristics of a great quarterback." SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Broncos on the Road.
The Bears in past seasons have relied upon a strong defense to win games but that has not been happening this season. The defense has been poor, including last week when they gave up 425 yards in a 30-23 loss at Seattle.
It was the fourth time this season the Bears gave up more than 400 yards and the fourth time a team scored at least 30 points against them. "Got to play better. Too many yards," linebacker Brian Urlacher said. The offense was not the problem last week as Rex Grossman was 24-for-37 for 266 yards. "I was definitely pleased with how Rex played at the quarterback position," coach Lovie Smith said. "I thought it gave us a chance to win." Chicago will be looking to Cedric Benson on Sunday against a Broncos’ defense that is 30th in the league in rush defense (149.2). The Bears have lost three straight at home which is shocking considering the Bears had won 13 of their last 16 at home over the last two years. They have not lost four straight at home in over five years. Denver has not played in Chicago since 1993.
