Denver Broncos at San Francisco 49ers Preview and Pick

The San Francisco 49ers made a number of off-season additions and many experts look at them as a team on the rise in the NFL Monday night fans around the nation will get their first look, albeit briefly at some of the new players as the 49ers host the Denver Broncos in preseason action. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favored Broncos on the road.

Cornerback Nate Clements, strong safety Michael Lewis, and wideout Darrell Jackson were picked up in the off-season by the 49ers in addition to draft picks linebacker Patrick Willis and tackle Joe Staley. One player who will not play Monday night for San Francisco is Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore, who broke his hand early in training camp and is expected to miss most of the preseason.

The Broncos have some new additions as well. They have cornerback Dre' Bly who they got in a trade from Detroit who will be in the secondary with Pro Bowler Champ Bailey. They have a new running back in Travis Henry who is expected to take over the running game. They also picked up tight end Daniel Graham and receiver Brandon Stokley. One player that will not play is wide receiver Rod Smith who has a hip injury.

Denver has a 17-14 advantage in the all-time preseason series. The two teams met in the regular season last year with the 49ers winning 26-23 in a game that knocked Denver out of the playoff race.

Tonight’s game should see Jay Cutler go 1-2 series for Denver followed by Patrick Ramsey and Preston Parsons. It is expected that Ramsey will get most of the work in the game. Mike Bell is expected to get quite a bit of work as the backup running back behind Henry.

The 49ers have a quarterback rotation of Alex Smith, Trent Dilfer and Shaun Hill. It is expected that Hill will get a decent amount of time in Monday’s game. Starting NT Aubrayo Franklin (knee) will miss the entire preseason.
