The Seattle Seahawks are only 4-4 this season but in the weak NFC West that is good enough for first place. Things are even worse for the San Francisco 49ers who are 2-6 and have lost six straight. Seattle is coming off a 33-30 overtime loss to Cleveland last week when they blew a 12 point lead. San Francisco lost 20-16 last week to Atlanta and the news keeps getting worse for the 49ers. Head coach Mike Nolan’s father, former 49ers coach Dick Nolan, died on Sunday at the age of 75. Mike is expected to coach the 49ers on Monday but the entire team is in mourning. "We are leading our division, still, and we have a division opponent coming up, which is a very important game," Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said, "It's now an eight-game season and we've got a one-game lead." One problem for Seattle is a non-existent running game. Shaun Alexander has looked washed up, running for only 492 yards this season. Matt Hasselbeck threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns in the last meeting with San Francisco so the passing game may be featured more tonight. "That might be the way we have to go now, play to our strengths just a little bit, how we're going right now," Holmgren said. "And instead of striving for balance, maybe we have to tip the scales just a little bit to be at our most productive, we'll see."

San Francisco is struggling on offense as well. Running back Frank Gore has had a poor season and quarterback Alex Smith still looks lost more often than not.
