• Oh What a Tangled Web These Breeders Cup Races Weave - There are so many Breeders’ Cup races this weekend I didn’t know where to start. I began handicapping last week to get a jump on the 11 races spread over two days beginning Friday at Monmouth Park

• How Monmouth Played in 2007 Dirt Turf Routes - Nine of the 11 Breeders’ Cup races during the two-day $23 million spectacular that begins Oct. 26 at Monmouth Park are routes, including four on the turf.

• Speed Is Name of the Game on Monmouth’s Dirt Track - “Calling it speed-favoring doesn’t do it justice and the favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint will look more like a top-fuel eliminator.” Through July 21, according to Brisnet.com, 40 percent of winners in 191 races at six furlongs (distance for BC Sprint and Filly & Mare Sprint) went wire to wire. By the time the 62nd meeting was history on September 2, winners that led at every call captured 40 percent of more than 300 races.

• Saratoga @ The Spa - It was held as an experiment. Well, the experiment, four days at Saratoga Raceway that began Aug. 3, 1863, was a huge success.
