Exacta Bet - The Exacta is by far the most popular bet in the horse racing world and thousands of dollars are bet daily on exacta wagering.  The Exacta is an “exotic” wager and is simply defined as picking the first two horses to win a race.  Like some of the other exotic wagers there are three types of exacta wagers; the straight, the boxed, and the wheel.

Trifecta Bet - The Trifecta is also known as the triple bet and in the most simplest terms this is when the horse bettor picks the finish of the first, second, and third place finishes of the race.  This is one of the most popular wagers to make at the horse track and one of the reasons for its popularity is the payouts that can derive from the wager.

Quinella - The Quinella wager is when a bettor selects the horses that they believe will finish first and second in the race.  The flexibility that a quinella wager allows is that either horse can finish in first or second place. For example of a horse bettor believes that the 1 horse and the 2 horse will finish in first or second but are unsure of the order the best wager to use would be the quinella.

Superfecta - The Superfecta wager requires the bettor to select the first four finishers of the race in the exact order.  This is the superfecta straight wager. Now you can understand the reason for the big payout because this is a very daunting task but to help out in the chances of winning big they have Superfecta wheel betting and boxed betting. 

Daily Double - The term Daily Double is one of the most popular terms in horse racing.  The term goes back almost as far as horse racing and has always held a popular place in horse racing.  Over the years the term has not changed but the way to place a wager on the Daily Double most certainly has.

Pick 3, Win 4, and Pick 6 - The Pick 3 is a popular wager placed at race tracks around the world and very similar to the daily double. To win the Pick 3 the bettor must pick the winners of three consecutive races stretching it out one further than the Daily Double.

In horse racing circles a race book is a very common term, but outside of that it may not be familiar to most.  In the sports world when a gambler would like to bet on sports they go to a sportsbook.
