Phoenix earned a 4-3 victory over Washington on Saturday, but needed a shootout to do it at Jobing.com Arena. Phoenix was favored by -142 and came through for bettors backing them. The game went OVER the consensus closing total of 5.5. Mikkel Boedker clinched the win with a shootout goal in round 2 for the Coyotes. Phoenix got goals from Shane Doan (2) and Lauri Korpikoski in the victory. Doan opened the scoring at 9:16 of the first period. Mike Smith turned in a 29-save effort for the Coyotes. Washington got goals from Troy Brouwer, Joel Ward, and John Carlson in the loss, but it wasn't enough. Michal Neuvirth stopped 32 of 35 shots for the Capitals, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory. On the power play, Phoenix went 2-for-6, while the Capitals were 2-for-7 with the man advantage. Phoenix outshot Washington 35-32 in the game. Phoenix looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against the Blues. The Capitals will aim to get back on the winning track at Colorado.
