Default How NHL teams do after trade

March 13, 2001: Phoenix traded LW Keith Tkachuk to St. Louis for C Michal Handzus, C Ladislav Nagy, the rights to C Jeff Taffe and a 1st-round pick in the 2001 or 2002 Entry Draft.

- The Phoenix Coyotes won just one of their next seven games, drawing twice. St. Louis had just two wins and a couple of ties in its next 10 games

March 19, 2002: Washington traded C Adam Oates to Philadelphia for G Maxime Ouellet and Philadelphia's 1st, 2nd and 3rd-round picks in the 2002 Entry Draft.

- After losing three straight leading up to the deadline, Washington reeled off seven wins in eight games following the big trade, even though the Caps didn’t add any players to contribute to their immediate roster. Philadelphia had three wins and a tie before dropping five straight losses.

March 11, 2003: Los Angeles traded D Mathieu Schneider to Detroit for C Sean Avery, D Maxim Kuznetsov, Detroit's 1st-round pick in the 2003 Entry Draft and 2nd-round pick in 2004.

- Detroit went on a 9-2 run after picking up Schneider at the deadline, while Los Angeles lost six of its next nine with a couple of ties in the mix.

March 9, 2006: Pittsburgh traded RW Mark Recchi to Carolina for LW Niklas Nordgren, C Krystofer Kolanos and Carolina's 2nd-round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft.

- Mark Recchi was a huge piece of Carolina’s Cup-winning puzzle in 2006. The Hurricanes were just 2-4 immediately following the deal, but quickly settled in after that. Pittsburgh were average at 6-9 after the deadline move.

Feb. 27, 2007: Edmonton traded LW Ryan Smyth to New York Islanders for C Ryan O'Marra, C Robert Nilsson and the Islanders' 1st-round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft.

- When Ryan Smyth left the Oilers, he took their heart with them. Edmonton won just two of its last 19 games following the deal. The Islanders, meanwhile, won only three of their first 10 games after the deadline. They rallied to win the last four games of the regular season but lost to Buffalo in five games in the first round of the playoffs.

Feb. 27, 2007: Florida traded RW Todd Bertuzzi to Detroit for C Shawn Matthias, a conditional 1st-, 2nd-, or 3rd-round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft and a conditional pick in the 2008 Entry Draft.

- Florida won five of six after shipping Bertuzzi out. Detroit won six of its next eight following the deal, but Bertuzzi didn’t even play for the Wings until late March as he was out with a bad back.
